What a treat to hear the now sadly neglected art of stride piano playing. lt's comforting to know that in such capable hands it's safe for another generation at least. Many thanks Steph !

Johnson's music is somehow intelligent, inventive, and joyful all at the same time. Wonderful performance here.

His music and playing is a perfect blend of truly classical and truly funky all at once, without one element ever being subservient to the other. Both are equal partners in this new music. It is no wonder he was so admired in his day, and revered as a giant today.

Wow! If James P. himself could have heard this, I believe he would have loved it!

In this performance the accents@1:40 float clear of what prompted them:the best rendition of this tune I've heard her play.

This is the 1st time I've heard her do this. Its absolutely stunning. This is a really difficult stride piece; that's why so few people have played it convincingly She's the only on I've heard aprt from JP himself to hit the base line properly at 2.02 to 2.13. The way she "Fatses up" her solo from about 3.00 is gorgeous. She brings tears to my eyes. I'd love to know what DH, LM, JH, PA, BL and RS think Keep 'em coming Stephanie

There's not a single part of her that's not dancing while she's playing..so she's 'got' the essence of this tune.

Some think James P Johnson was the greatest Jazz pianist ever, and most certainly KING of the Stride Piano. Stephanie Trick does a great rendition in true stride style. Good on you, Hon'

That must be an audience of cutouts like at the ballpark. Otherwise, how could they be sitting perfectly still? I’m listening at home, yet I couldn’t stop myself from bouncing up and down!

Ok now I found it. The solo part in mazetier's verions at 2.58 actually starts at 2:58 in Tricks version too, but it's not exactly the same solo thats why I didn't recognize it first.

Steph, the last time I saw a left arm move that fast with such precision was watching Valentina Lisitsa's now-classic video of Rachmaninoff's "Little Red Riding Hood" Etude Tableaux made back circa 2005. Yours is just a blur in some of your videos, it is so fast. For kicks, try Chopin's Etude Opus 25 No 4 sometime which is just classical "scat". With your accuracy you should top the list of classical pros.

Joue nous un morceau Robertslistining, on verra ce que tu sais faire. Pour moi c'est remarquable ! Le chorus autour de 3' est splendide de lyrisme (et ce n'est pas de James P). Stéphanie me fait penser à Louis Mazetier. Bravo.

Stephanie you almost play too fast for my internet connection! :) Saw you perform for the first time at the SD Swing Jazz Festival...come back soon!

I wonder how hard this is compared to Harlem Strut. I guess Harlem strut is considered hard to learn but this might be trickier. Because I think Stephanie played Harlem strut much faster. Oh I also miss a part that Mazetier has in his version. 2:58 in Mazetier's version he has solo with his right hand which I can't find in this version. I thought I find it in here because Stephanie played a similar path in her "Troublesome Ivories" at 2:55.
