Stephanie delighted her mainly-Scottish audience, with a theme many of them recognised as a well-known folk song. It's by George Washington Johnson, about growing old. Although it is often found in the repertoire of Scottish singers, George Johnson was a Canadian from Toronto.

Love everything this girl plays, but this and 'Boogie Woogie Stomp' are two particular favourites! Unlike a lot of pianists, she never strays too far from the melody, which makes it all the more enjoyable!

Stephanie You have made one of Your Best Stride performances I've heard!!! Fats Waller would have been proud of you. My father born in 1918 was a huge Fats Waller fan and tought me about him and his stride piano. I'm a huge fan of Stephanie Trick!

That girl is adorable any way you can think of. If I ever see her playing in person, which ain't likely, I will probably hug and squeeze her until her toenails crack! Doggone Alan Dale got me hooked on this method (again), and she is really carrying me along. God bless tin pan alley music, I have loved it since I was a kid about 60 years ago..

I've always loved this song and recently read of it's origins. The description says it's a out growing old but I believe it's about not growing old. This is what I found. In the early 1860s a young Canadian school teacher, George Washington Johnson, fell in love with his pupil, Margaret Clark. They married in 1864; Margaret - 'Maggie' - was already seriously ill with tuberculosis, and was to die the following year at the age of twenty-three. During her illness, Johnson composed his poem, 'When You and I Were Young, Maggie'. And after his Maggie's death, James Austin Butterfield, a Britain living in the United States, set the poem to music. Over a hundred years later, in the 1980s, the song was a hit in the U.K. charts for an Irish act, Foster and Allen. In the years since its composition, 'When You and I Were Young, Maggie' has become a standard, performed by operatic tenors, folk singers, jazzmen and crooners.

I had the opportunity go to a Foster & Allen concert in Adelaide South Australia in the early 80’s. So many great versions off this song. 👍🎹😁🇦🇺🦘

Sounds like background music from a Civil War documentary. "On the 15th of July, 1864, however, both rebels and Yankees were able to lay down their arms for one day of cavorting and merriment . . ."

She needs to minimally form a Jazz trio or form a band like Shaye Cohn of 'Tuba Skinny' based out of New Orleans.

She doesn’t rrally need a trio. Her playing is amazing in its own right.

George Washington Johnson was from Binbrook near Hamilton not Toronto

The Clarke house is still in use near Binbrook and Maggie's grave is near Mount Hope, Ontario. George Johnson taught in Toronto later in his career.

Perhaps the poster said, Toronto because likely few people outside of Ontario know where Hamilton is, let alone Binbrook.
