Random old man plays some piano...a few moments later magic happens. Enjoy! LEARN BOOGIE WOOGIE PIANO: badassboogie.net/ Dr K Merch: teespring.com/en-GB/stores/dr... Facebook: / badassboogie Instagram: / drkboogiewo. .
I used to work with dementia patients. I was always amazed at how pianists could play and singers could remember lyrics they hadn’t sung in years. Yet they had no clue what their name was. Music truly is a part of your soul.
I worked at an assisted living and totally agree with what you said. I remember one particular lady who we had to walk her to the dining room for meals and remind her 3 or 4 times where we were going. Not every time, but once in a while when she finished eating, she would get up, walk to the piano in the corner and play the most beautiful music. When she finished playing we would walk her out. However, sometimes she would just stop playing, one of the staff would ask if she was ready to go. She would look them straight in the eye and say, "go, I thought you said it was time to eat." Oh I loved those people so much.
Depending on how severe the disease is, with given time it does. My aunt used to be a music teacher for the best of 60 years of her life and about a decade ago, when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 84, she couldn’t remember and actively told us she couldn’t or didn’t know some pieces that she used to play and teach us play when we were kids. When she is on a good day she sits and plays quite a few of classics with the precision and dexterity that you wouldn’t be able to believe came from a 93yo, a little less than 5’tall Asian woman that has been battling her condition silently for almost two decades (at first it was just little things, but when her husband finally took her seriously and took her to see a doctor it was to the point she couldn’t remember her way back home and would often leave as if spirited away if nobody was nearby). On bad days you could see the struggle in her eyes when she sat down the piano seat, staring around wondering where she was and why she couldn’t remember why she was there, the piano being the only thing she could recognize. Often times she would ask if she could go back because Ms. Morinaga was supposed to bring her daughter over for her lessons soon. We had audio recordings of her playing many different pieces and her husband would play the cassettes to her, she would then play along but when asked what piece it was and if she knew who was playing she would often draw a blank. While the skills could stay as muscle memory and play along if shown, be it by playing with her or playing a tape of the music, she never, to the best of my knowledge, played any piece she played and taught of the period after her marriage on her own after being diagnosed. Lots of classics, but anything outside regular curriculum circa 1960’s simply didn’t exist even on good days.
It has got nothing to do with "soul" and all about our brain and how it stores memories. "Soul" is a female word that means nothing, like "spirituality" which is just religion without consequence.
@@Xepent Brilliant!! I'll just donate one of my eight pianos sitting around collecting dust. Why was I not bright enough to think of this? I am glad that you shared your ultimate wisdom with the world. Thank you.
Watching this in 2023 and what a smile it brought to my face! The world needs more blokes like this...carefree and willing to share their God given talent with us!!
Remember my college's years when I was young hearing you both playing The entertainer by Scott Joplin ! thanks a lot to the other irish man who's playing these songs with You dr.K!😊
Made a huge mistake watching theis in public, tears rolled down my face like a baby. The older gentleman reminds me of my late father, he loved music and piano.
I absolutely couldn't stop smiling. Still am! There is a dvd about dementia patients who sit for months in hospitals, unable to speak. Sitting in hospital beds, wheelchairs, then someone brings them earphones of their favorite music from back in the day. Their face immediately lights up, they actually start humming, responding to this beautiful stimuli. I cried through most of this amazing dvd. Music is a healer, as this precious video showed us, in the happy responses here. God bless these two wonderful musicians. They brightened my dark day!
My mum had Alzheimer’s and was in a semi-vegetative state most of the time. But when the staff played music from the 40s she would lift up her head and tap her feet and hands. When the music ended, she would revert back to that awful state once more. Music has such power as does the mind.
3:45 - In all the fun they were having, Brendan just says: "G" and the old fella instantly changes his playing. I'm amazed. This old fella is amazing. Brendan - you GOTTA track him down and do more with him..... EDIT: It was the OLD GUY that said 'G' - I'm sorry.... Still, Brendan.....you need to play more with this guy!!!!!
I love all the people with the big grins when they see them playing together. It's just so wholesome how a simple thing like music can make people so happy
One I've worked on for 40 years (guitar) & am still absolutely useless! Had a mate a school who picked one up & played it in a lunchtime & went on to play in a band (Airrace) with *Jason Bonham* supporting some big names such as *Def Leppard & Queen!* Like math(s) you've either got it or you haven't!
Yes! And @Leiflvr, we have the ears, the hearts and take the time to listen all the way through to prove our super power is Very Appreciative Listener of Musicians.
With enough time, dedication, and access to educational resources, most people can become this good. Of course some people may intuitively pick up certain skills faster, but that doesn't mean others can't learn that same skill. The best musicians in the world didn't become the best over night, and the vast majority of them practiced for countless hours. The difference is that they had a true passion to play their instrument and persevered.
My grandparents were very good ballroom dancers. About 20 years ago now, they were visiting us in South Africa and were at one of the malls. In one of the large stores a retired gentleman was entertaining customers with his piano playing. My grandparents did an impromptu waltz on the store floor in front of all the customers for which they received a well earned round of applause.
@@MS-qj3lk This is the comment that warms my heart. It is so beautiful. I can only imagine he feels like he's back in the times he was young playing with someone. Music really does connect people and it doesn't matter how old you are or where you are from. I cried the first time I watched this knowing that I will want something like this one day.
Older does not mean you feel old. You feel exactly the same as you did in your head. Its just the body that catches up with time. The heads still young.
What a beautiful moment! How lucky you are if you can play a musical instrument. I love them all, especially the piano. Learn to play an instrument while you're young...you'll never, ever regret it! I wish I had.
Only consolation for me is that I can still play a pretty mean hi-fi record player . but yes that,s inspirational stuff in an ugly place the world is in .
yeah, but for me they seem so sexy💋. maybe because when i was very young (like 5) my grandpa licked👅 me everywhere and I loved it💕. I still love it. my ultimate fantasy!!! 😍
@@adamuppsala1931 woah what? Like, EVERYWHERE? How is an adult male family member licking you everywhere(literally) okay? Are you feeling alright at least?
You can even infuse emotions in music. Just sesarch that homeless guy who played come sail away in a public piano vs when he is no longer homeless. You can feel his despair on the first and then hope on his second play yet he played the same piece.
I wish the world could be like this. Saw Yanni on tv play live at the Acropolis in Greece and he brought the world together with music. It was phenomenal.
You can tell hes like... O shit. The force is strong Let go for it! And in the end. He just walks of. Like.... O another good ole gramps story! Jedi shit. We cant comprehend
This is one of many reasons why the piano remains a beloved instrument. It is a wonderful mixture of challenging, stimulating, exciting, expressive and fun. And it's a terrific way to bond or simply play around with other people. Technology has its place, but the acoustic piano has a special kind of timeless quality.
I inherited an 1906 Hobart upright grand from my paternal grandmother, and the steel sound board makes a sound that is one-of-a-kind. It's been in TN, TX and WA state, then back to TX, and still sounds majestic. Electric keyboards can't match it.@@olenfersoi8887
Yes, well done! The senior pianist was cueing him with chord changes and key changes, they are both classically trained in music theory. 3rd song by Scott Joplin is one of the most fun to play. Brilliant!
I am normally in bed by 2000 & 2100, found all this fantastic music stayed up until almost 2300! I am 80 years old, hope I can find this site again on the computer.
Wow! He plays like a junior not a senior regardless 😮music will makes one feel young and restless, lol! 😜😂 Wishing him the best and ❤️😍💕 all the happiness in his music congrats! .To the ones enjoying his music have a great day!
So much JOY expressed in these comments! All I can add is that these two gentlemen can teach piano in Heaven to people like me who love the piano but struggle to play a hymn flawlessly, as I long to do! What a God given gift, gentlemen. Thank you for sharing with so many🙏🏻❤️
@@chrish281 I don't remember the last time I've watched the news. I'd rather metal detect or ghost hunt, or do diamond pictures I get from Wish. The 'diamonds' are little bits of different colours plastics you glue on a canvas.
This is making me cry. I am 75 and I so desperately wanted to learn to play when I was a kid, but we never had money for lessons. Oh! To be able to play like this. Heaven.
Now iam 35 , I hv also same wish .. but never gets time for learning .. Only way I found is with my 3 year old Son... I have placed order for 1 piano and 1 guithar .. let's hope n pray .. my wish will accomplish on my loved sone..💕💕
I like it when a person can make a piano sing...the world needs more people like this senior citizen... the love and warmth that comes through is awe inspiring. God Bless Him!! The songs that he is playing I remember from long ages past...

It's worth getting late to work or home. If I'm asked why are you late. I'll just be honest and to hell with whoever thinks this is not a valid excuse.
Humans bonding over something as powerful as music never ceases to amaze.. world needs more of this and less fighting over money, power, resources, etc
This amazing senior, from the same country as me?! Bruh, oh the amazingness to it all! I want to be like this man! He is an inspiration to his fellow natives and no doubt to the rest of the world ^-^ Simply Awestruck. There is pure love to this musical instrument, and understanding among fellow humans. I'll treasure this video.
One more reason our youth today need to understand our seniors HAVE SO MUCH VALUE AND WORTH. They have alot to offer and still teach us,what amazing musical talent the two of these gentlemen have.
This senior citizen has enjoying his time. They're great together❤ The Boogie Woogie piano is sunshine. Brings so much joyful to many. Thank you for sharing.
@@egal007I just checked it out and you are right, he has his own channel that started just after this video was dropped. Interesting, I bet this video inspired him to start his own channel!?!? MIND BLOWN 🤯
You are a lovely young woman. Back in the late 1970s,shared a house with some great guys and you look a lot like the sister of one of them. She became a schoolteacher and was as beautiful at 50 as she was at 25. I can only hope you turn out as happy and balanced, with a career you like as Susan did. Pick the men in your life with care and all the best to you.
Thank you! I've just been awarded a second chance by the powers that be. I'm getting divorced and at age 51, am a full-time student at university. The future looks bright. And I am absolutely super picky about who will share my life in the future. I have no time to waste... Thanks again!! Much appreciated. 🙏🏼🕊☮💖🌞♾💯
its not that hard. i can do it after 6 hours practice. you just need to learn how to learn. i also play guitar bass violin drums sing chello flawlessly. also im good at drawing and painting. and im a master at chest.
2 diffrent continents , different language , different background , different culture , don t know each other , met at a train station somewhere , without any words to say without any introduction or presentation , have their music unite and creat this wonderful piece of art.
Okay...this is magical and is making me a litte sniffly. This was the older gentleman's moment and Brandon's ability to engage him kinda melted my heart.❤
I’m just saying there’s not many people who go out there and play the piano like this just for fun not for pay or business and the music was one of the main sources of entertainment for them.
Feels like criticizing someone who is stoked music doesn't have a shelf life is Counterproductive to the Joy that a Doctorate of Music that Mr. K Exudes!
Boy, I wish that was American's attitude everywhere - us older folks are just waiting to be crumpled up and tossed away like trash. Nice to hear someone say what you said, Paradise Soon
Hey There, while I love the sentiment, I kinda think this applies to all ages everywhere. I believe in talking time to talk to people, everyone has a story & that's what respect is, caring and time for all of us. Elderly always sounds so patronising, I know lots of folks older than me (57) & they'd wack me over the head if I said they were elderly!!! What most people want is just simple respect, courtesy & a little time. I know I do & my kids do & my friends ( all ages) do! I had a lady in my doctor's waiting room tell me "Everybody's had a hard life, what I like is having a good chat!!" My stepson is 24 & he is one of the wisest humans I know, he also loves to find out a person's story! 💖
Music Educator I'm from America and I totally agree with Paradise Soon! I work with the elderly too and do have great respect for them. However sadly you too are right. God Bless You!
