I think the obvious answer is to change the date of the app star weekend to an off season timeline. Players will be named part to the all star game just before the playoffs. And it becomes a required charity event to be considered for ANY max contract signings. Then after the season ends, during summer training the all star weekend occurs.

The Dunk contest started to crumble when Aaron Gordon lost twice!! He won both there is no debate when he jumped over the mascot in the SEATED Position while simultaneously transferring the ball underneath and dunking. Then the 2nd he jumped over Tacko Fall who's nearly 8 feet tall!!

An idea that could work is that you got 4 starting 5's each as their own team with a king of the court style pickup game, where the team with the most wins either gets money for charity or prize money for themselves. I feel that could up the level of competition a bit. Everyone when they play pickup wants to stay king of the court for reasons of pride.

Replace the All-Star Game with an All-Star tournament. The starters from each conference form two teams, then you get five players from each division to make six more teams, and you play single elim, game 30. This allows for more players to be highlighted and increase the competitive fervor. You also make it mandatory for the other events during the weekend to be filled ONLY with players who made an all-star/rising star team.

Stephen A's idea of having a national competition is on point. So many cats around the country are superstar dunkers, plenty on social media so NBA can easily find them

Shannon was dead on with the last point. I used to love watching the player intros for the ASG. Last night I watched and I had to ask some friends "Was is just me or did just about every player look miserable/unhappy about being there?" Every player had an emotionless face being introduced except for a couple of the first timers.

I think even what Stephen A. said about it like "at least compete, ofc not on the level of a regular season game" is part of the problem. Where do you draw the line? Either you compete to win or you don't. If you don't, this is the result. There is no in-between. When players have this "I shouldn't go too hard" in the back of their heads, it's done. It's also this "I don't wanna seem like I care, so when I fail, they can't hang it over my head", I think. Cos not knowing keeps the debate going about who is better, who is worse, and if they're worth the money they're getting paid for. If you're all on the same stage and going all in, favourites are going to eventually show. Bad for business?

Before watching this I thought the same as Shannon. I genuinely believe if the players could vote to get all star selections but not play the game they absolutely would. It used to be a competitive motivation to have the best players going against each other to prove who was best, now it's just a big lazy pickup game where everyone just shoots uncontested 3s for 48 mins.

Shannon is absolutely right on the last point. Players bragging about being an All-Star but don't want to actually participate. That's the downside of having too much power and money, they couldn't care less about the fans wanting to see an actual game featuring the best players.

We used to have all-star weekend parties back when Jordan and Magic and crew were playing. Now... I can't even stay awake.

My suggestion to fix all star weekend. all star game. top 2 offensive players and top 3 defensive players from east and west are starters. media and coaches vote on reserves. 3 point comp, top 6 to 8 players with best percentage for the season are in. Dunk Comp, 1 player from each team, 30 participants tournament style, 1v1 dunk 1 dunk each, then when they get to final 8 players, 4 players in each pool, they get 2 or 3 dunks, best average score moves on. longer format but it would be more exciting.

The only event that was worth my time at the ASW was Sabrina vs Steph Curry 3 point shootout.

The game was so boring that I started doing dishes and laundry after 3rd quarter 😅

Scrap the WHOLE thing, do a 1v1 tournament between the all stars, everybody fills out they bracket, winner gets a sick trophy and a bunch of money, make it like a 2 or 3 day event with the final 1v1 tourney on the last day, NBA is all about individuals, this would be perfect

This entire segment spoke to my heart. When I grew up, the superstars who played in the All Star game had so much pride to compete in the game. Along with that, the dunk contest was far more entertaining to watch because there was a tenacity for more creativity. Nowadays I rarely watch it since many of the dunks are similar to what I have already seen.

Add a couple of instigators to the game like DB or Pat Bev and it instantly gets more competitive. Even a pickup game between friends in the backyard at this point is more competitive than the all star game.

I still find it entertaining because there are still a lot of highlights every all star games. If you don’t like the games then do not buy a ticket or watch the games as simple as that. I think the only games that must change or improve are slam dunk challenge and skills challenge…..

After every all star game, there should be a grading/voting system on the performance of each all star (based on effort) and will either be deducted or added to their rating on the next all star selection.
