In this video, we look at Stephen A. Smith reaction of European players before and after the NBA draft. In this video we look at two European players. Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are both Dallas Maverick stars.
@@mattlynch1473 are you kidding me? His nba analysis is bad already and have you seen his boxing analysis? It's even worse lol. And he's also suspiciously racist.
They really did need to stay safe with that pick, Luka wouldn’t fit very well with D-Book with how ball dominant Luka is. The suns made the best pick for the suns
Here's what I dont get. Yeah these guys aren't playing against the best competition growing up but the blue chip prospects like Luka have playing against GROWN MEN since they were 13-17 years old. May not be the top competition but it's still grown men
@@TheVoiceofKizzy of course the basketball in europe is not as big as it is in the USA, but, still the euroleague is the 2nd best league in the world and the gap between the euroleague and the NCAA is as big as the gap between the NBA and the euroleague.
You can see the ignorance of S.A.S. here. First he said that Porzingis isnt NBA ready and that he is a 2-5 years project then later he admits that he never saw him play before he came to the NBA. Its also funny that he mentioned some players who should have been drafted before Porzingis and now nobody knows about those players. He should apologize to Porzings if that even means anything. But about Ayton he didnt really said anything wrong. If Ayton is from Arizona of course he was the best pick for the Suns
KDM KICKS this is the era of wings and not centers. Ayton is good but also a monumental mistake by Phoenix. Centers do not have the impact they had 20 years ago.
Kyle Smith no no, I’d rather have KP, I’m just saying if they didn’t draft Porzingis the only players that are really good are those guys, so it wouldn’t have been a total bust for the Knicks, everyone else would have been terrible.
@@kennethjose7159 if you know that dude, or you've been a fan for long and have good memory, or you just s mavs fan, or played with them on mycareer like me 😂
Stanley Robbins was meant to be Stanley Johnson, who went to my Pistons at 8. Johnson is a benchwarmer in Toronto now. Needless to say SAS whiffed on that too
Dude seriously said „i never seen the dude play before“ but tried to roast phil jackson who uses more braincells per second than stephen a smith in his whole life what a clown
Ericc_E_123 you can’t use the one thing Phil Jackson did well in his Time as gm to try and paint him as a good gm name one other good thing Phil Jackson did
People need to understand, that putting labels on things make no sense. I’m American. I know there is talent elsewhere that can come to the nba and have a high ceiling.
Only some are good and the world is a huge area, but considering there's a lot of usa college hoop teams that can wipe professional teams from around the world, the risk is high taking international talent. The talent internationally could be better but those players play different sports because basketball might not be as popular. In usa I wouldn't be drafting players for the NFL out of the usa because American football isn't as popular to the rest of the world.
I get where this vid is coming from, but Ayton is a bit hard to judge. Most people were saying he was the easy #1, with some saying Luka. I don’t think Phoenix is that mad with their pick, considering they already had Devin Booker.
The point is that he didn't even watch the Euroleague (as he admitted) which makes him ignorant af when it comes to draft prospects. How can you say "I don't care how well this kid from Europe plays" and at the same time project Ayton to be the best player...
Splash Zone I’d be worried about the defensive structure of that team. Now granted, I’m sure Phoenix would make a free agency decision to snag a few good defensive wings and a big, but Ayton fills the void at center.
If it isn't about race baiting or yelling louder than everyone else, SAS doesn't know much about anything to do with sports so these clips aren't really a surprise to me.
@@SAINTxSZN uhhhhhh that's cool man. Don't really know what your political opinions have to do with whether or not someone can analyze the game of basketball.
@@Dichotomic_King "If it isn't about race baiting" My comment was only a reply to that statement. Stop playing dumb unless you really do have as low of an IQ as I assumed.
It’s insane that Luka Doncic in 2 years has already led the Mavericks to the playoffs before Booker could take the suns there. Let alone taking Ayton over him 💀😂😂
Hey Knicks, thank you 🙏 for giving us the best player you drafted since Ewing & OMG 😯 giving him to us for nothing, that’s unreal, thanks 🙏 soooo much!
well this aged very will with ayton didn't it. this might be Deandres break out year in Phoenix with cp3 and d book and might just be competing for that all nba title this year against bam and Joel and Kat
I mean no one can get it right all the time. There are players who have been drafted that everyone expected to be great, but aren’t. I dislike how SAS thinks teams can be championship ready with a few drafts or trades overnight. Phil Jackson was smart to slowly build a team overtime, unfortunately the Knicks are in a rush to get good and waste all their assets on temporary boosts or in hopes of getting a superstar.
Phil Jackon fired Mike Woodson who is the still the best coach the Knicks have had since the 90s because he didn't want to run his stupid triangle. Drafting Porzingis is the only thing he did right
Honestly the ayton take wasn’t bad. It logically made more sense to pick a big center that can dominate to pair with Booker than a point guard that’s ball dominant
On Stephen A's defense, even for european basketball guys like myself was hard to predict that luka was gonna become this good so soon. As a real madrid fan i was convinced he was gonna become a start, but never have i envisioned he was gonna be the best player in the world at 22 yo. And considering how good the suns did this last season, and how good was Ayton looking, i dont think it was a bad choice back then. Considering MJ wasnt number 1 pick and markelle fultz was, says a lot about nba predictions and how often you can get it wrong. Having said that, the one thing i can assure is that nba people talk about european basketball players without having ever watched a european game. They just read a stat and watch a 5 min long video, and they make a judge out of that.
I still agree that Ayton should’ve gone first overall in the draft if u think abt what the suns needed. they didn’t need another guard when they have booker and their center position was extremely lacking
I mean he is in some ways right about these players but the wrong part is that he always wants teams to select players who would solve problems of those teams at that time. But you gotta always choose the best player in that draft class if you have the no 1. overall pick.
Its a pattern with SAS, he isnt capable of saying he doesnt know anything about a given player, but he clearly doesnt follow foreign prospects at all. So he just makes up a take where he underrates them as if he knows what hes talking about.
I mean to be fair I kinda agree with s.a.s on the first clip they desperately needed a big man at the time plus you wouldn't know how doncic and booker would do in phoenix together defensivly as well.
When was the last time a center or big was the best player on a championship team? Not dirk or KD because they’re primarily forwards. Last time was probably Shaq on the Lakers, maybe. Times have changed since MJ came into the league. Two-way wing players are the way to go now.
He's definitely right though. Suns needed a big and Ayton was right there and they already have Booker in the guard position and there aren't a few European busts, so you can kinda understand why SAS made that take even though now it's silly and funny to laugh at
I guess Stephan A thinks people playing in college are better than people playing in pro foreign leagues with players with a ton of professional experience
he wasn't wrong about luka though.....they already have booker and ayton is what the team needed also the pickup of kelly oubery was perfect fit....they needed to put a team like this around booker 5 years ago. It's gonna take a year or two to mesh and grow but this is what they needed to do from the start to build a team around booker.....mavs knew what they wanted and built one around luka and grizzles as well who are building one around Ja morant......hawks on the other hand are basically doing to trae young what suns did to booker and aside from collins who was suspended/injured half the season rest of the team is barely NBA level and more G league level
To be fair the suns already have dbook so who knows how he would work with luka at the time when they both have such similar styles and Ayton honestly isn’t a bad pick he’s just not luka or trae young 😂
People clown him for what he said about the suns but he wasn’t wrong 🤷🏾 the suns did NOT need another ball dominant player with booker he needed a big man
Tbf on doncic he said he’ll probably go second overall. And to this day knowing doncic is goated I still think suns made the right choice having devin booker on the roster. Kings are trash tho
