If they can get a team mentality going, shouldn't be an issue. The team is very deep and the overall duration of play is pretty short. If the path is adversity free, no worries. If they have to scratch and claw, that's when the team concepts will break down and you usually cannot "star-ball" your way past the elite world teams anymore. But the worst guy on the US squad will be way better than the first bench guy on every other squad there. Just comes down to getting good players to focus on a role and not worry about being the star or MVP, etc. The issue with past prime is more about ability to survive 82 games and then a playoff run - but old players in short spurts have usually been able to ball, think about late Kobe, or MJ or the like, all could put up stats to the end. And it won't be a cake walk - the US team has tons of game tape to watch, so opponent will be ready for the standard schemes lots of these guys like to run. But I see no reason to expect an egg - these guys seem motivated - and its the last hoo-rah for many on the international stage which is BIG to their brands and off court money AFTER the NBA. So. lots of motivation to do what it takes.
