Peggy Webb So you're judging someone purely based on a chemical they put into their body, of their own free will, in private. He's an incredibly intelligent and articulate man who's been through a lot of hardships. Maybe its not good for him, but I see it as pretty pathetic to judge him on something he did in the past that has affected no one but himself.

That made me laugh so hard because it pretty much describes every one night stand i've ever had :)

Agree! He's witty and amazingly intelligent, yet down-to-earth and frank at the same time. There are a lot of famous people I like, but very few I /really/ respect, and Fry's gotta be one of them.
love how well he can articulate his views, not aggressive at all or forcing his opinion on you. He just tells it to you fair and straight (no pun) and is truley genuine about it, can never get over what a nice humble guy he is
What a very intelligent, eloquent, thoughtful man Stephen is. One of the very best guests on this show by far, and as far removed from pompous as it is possible to get.

I think he was on about professional critics, whose life revolves around insulting peoples work, and how they can spend no more than a few paragraphs totally slating a whole group of people which has taken a great deal of work to complete. And I agree with Stephen.
Fry is a homesexual Atheist comedian and is extremely inteligent. I am so proud to have been alive in the same time and place. That's why he is a treasure. He is also one of my 5 eternal diner party guests.
This is one episode that I never get tired of watching. Stephen Fry is the dog's bollocks (that means he great, for those who have no understanding of certain phrases), he probably could have stopped Hitler just by speaking to him. Steve is the man!

Best episode ever. I agree with everything Stephen says on this. I love Stephan, He's funny and you can actually feel yourself getting more intelligent from watching him.
There's a slight difference in the fact that critics are paid to do it as their job, and he was voicing his opinion on something, which is the point of Room 101.
Stephen's northern irish accent (i.e. MY accent) is actually quite good. Another reason to adore him, methinks lol (in a totally platonic way, of course).
The only reason I looked him up was because of the Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip song where he says "thou shalt not question Stephen Fry". It worked out great, I'm happy to say!
Let's be honest shall we? Every single person in that audience would have voted by show of hands with confidence if Stephen Fry had said: "I think we should put feathers in Room 101. They're terrifying things." It was Stephen Fry who said it, after all! :)
If there's one thing that seems to unite most of Britain's film & TV critics, it's a hatred of Stephen Fry. They often accuse him of being "smug", or the "stupid person's idea of an intellectual". Very much the ultimate pot and kettle case.
He wasn't saying that man always ruins nature. He was saying that nature is unconditionally beautiful, and that the only ugly things you will see are man made. He acknowledges that man can create beauty, but at the same time is reposnsible for 100% of the uglification of nature.
one of the definitions of beauty (according to the aust. oxford dictionary 2nd edition) is "a fine specimen". whatever you may think of a cockroach aethstetically, it is a fine specimen of an organism. it is possibly the most resilient of macor-organisms on the planet. p.s. adore stephen fry:)

@ColonelHoraldo There's a difference between critisizing something, wether it be a film or a book or some music as a person - and being in a profession where's your sole job to critisize things. A huge, massive difference.
@Shadrach1 well said mate. Stephen Fry is a jewel in the British crown, he's loved from the upper class right down to the common man. He is a genius but so down to earth and humble, I love him. Peace.

One day, I hope to see Stephen Fry's face on currency. Just like a hundred dollar bill can be called a "Benjamin", so a hundred pound note could be a "Stephen". :)
I think thats a little unfair. Even if you don't like the kind of people who like stephen its a bit harsh to judge him based on this, he a genuinely nice guy who does a lot of work for charities which he never boasts about, is very humble despite how loved and regularly flattered he is by so many people and he has had a very hard life and is so much less self obbsessed then the average celebrity. He hardly deserves your apparent hatred.
I preferred Merton in Room 101 'cos he actually laughed at things. He kind of has a character in HIGNFY. And I just love Stephen Fry. I can't believe he went to jail when he was younger, haha.
