Professor Stephen Hawking gives a public lecture at the University of Geneva after his trip to CERN in 2009 where he saw the Large Hadron Collider.
Regarded as one of the greatest theoretical physicists of modern times, Hawking's work in searching for the theoretical framework for producing a Unified Field Theory has lead him to some truly remarkable conclusions in his career which has given us new knowledge in the workings of the cosmos. Hawking's ground-breaking work has grabbed the attention of scientists and laypeople the world over with his popular science books and abstract reasoning on the nature of physics on elementary and grand scales.
His work with Roger Penrose on the singularity conditions that arise in General Relativity lead to an extention of Roger Penrose's theorem for non-rotating, uncharged black holes to a universe where the Big Bang itself did not arise from a spacetime singularity. His independant work on Virtual Particle-Antiparticle Pairs around a black hole event horizon has lead to the famous Hawking Radiation scenario, which still awaits experimental and observational experimentation.
Hawking's own expertise in Black Hole Thermodynamics along with his work(an infamous bet) with the renowned physicist Kip Thorn are classic physics stories.
Hawking's popular science books and TV shows are works of art in and of themselves.
Hawking's latest work has been involved in M-Theory, particularly in the case of modelling the geodesics of spacetime with relation to Feynman's Sum over Histories Path Integral formalism in Quantum Field Theory. Hawking has concluded that spacetime, under his formalism's can arise from nothing due to the spacetime curvature with no initial conditions, hence creating the Universe for free.
Hawking's intriguing work and his continuous struggle with ALS has inspired millions of scientists and laypeople across the planet.

I met him through a program in my middle school got to attend one of those lectures and I was one of 30 kids got to ask him the question directly but I'll keep that to myself but it was an experience I will always remember thank you mister Hawking

I can't explain why, but Stephin Hawking's words sound artistic to me, his choices of words are very beautiful.

To have the natural ability to communicate taken away then through science have it given back again, personally I'd have a much more appreciative view of the nature of communication and attempt to be as articulate as i can be while i still could. Though in saying that it took me too long to word even this comment properly and I'm talking nonsense compared to what i just heard lol

It took him a minute to type each word, which gave him a lot of time to think carefully, and taught him to be concise to conserve time.

He pretty much nailed what is absurd about Creationism - cart before horse reasoning. There is a big difference between saying we are here because the Universe exists and saying the Universe was "created" so we could be here. First is logic, the second is anthropic egotism, which is the basic foundation of all creationist myth and later, religion.

It was actually Edward Witten who came up with the idea of M-Theory in 1995 as a way to identify a link between the Heterotic-E and Type 2a String Theories using the S-Dualism in Superstring theory in the same way as T-Dualism relates Heterotic-O with Heterotic-E String theories and Type 2a with Type 2b String Theories. M-Theory is merely implied to exist, even S-Dualism is just theoretical conjecture however it most likely exists. We can only see a slight portion of the full M-theory.

hence, now i am in 7th class but i loved him when i was in class 5th his all theories about space-time, multiverse universe, no boundary proposal, and all existing singularities he was the most unique world changer man in 20th century he all laws governing universe and theories about it i also liked many other peoples like Albert Einstein, sir Issac newton, Nicola teasla, nicolaus Copernicus, Tycho Brahe, Erwin Schrodinger, werener Heisenberg and his own theory of everything and grand unified theory and hawking radiation. i wish i could have been there to watch his live lectures in all the universties .

Hawking is a great scientist due to him being a complete specialist on a field which was, in his day, not all that popular. Hawking obviously cannot do tangible benefits, such as experimenting with new technology or designing advanced experiments, but it should be obvious why he cannot. He was the Lucasian professor of Mathematics at Oxford, a post once held by Paul Dirac. He lectured and did theoretical research with Roger Penrose for years.

I am in total agreement. The human imagination is the starting point for theoretical science and also the starting point for designing experiments to test such theories without bias. Any products of the human mind, that link together like theory and experimental science, is probably the source of humanity's greatest accomplishments. Another example of this process is using our imagination to link images with sounds, sounds with words to create language.

This is absolutely impossible I know, and I'm probably just tired as I'm sitting here watching and listening to this amazing man's lecture at 2 o'clock AM, but at 3:07, did anyone else see his right leg move just a little bit? It must have just been the camera or something...or can his joints twitch? It happens again at 4:05
@Vojife
@Vojife 9 лет назад
+Raven Shilander (Ravenisnotflyingyet) He can move a tiny little bit. That's actually how he "talks", he controls the program by pressing a button. And he can smile a little bit as well.
@De2Venner
@De2Venner 8 лет назад
+Vojife Cute, but wrong. He used to be able to use his hand to press a button, but now he uses his cheek muscles. My guess is that the leg moving is him breathing. It is impossible for him to move his legs or hands.

Tesla is actually the scientist I admire the most, I've built many a Tesla Coil and I am constantly reminded of his work in particle and nuclear physics, he did invent the first LINAC that could produce x-rays after all(making him the inventor of x-rays as well as radio), but you're statement is irrelevant. Dislike the video if you must, but acknowledge you are in error. Tesla was motivated by the same scientific awe as Hawking, obviously Hawking can't do experimental science- he has ALS.

The expansion of the universe refers to the space an time itself? or just the filaments of galaxies across the cosmos? because, we acctualle can´t see space expanding, we only see galaxies, what if the universe behaves diferently when we oberve it, than when we dont? If this is posible, then is also posible to combine the relativistic theory and quantum mechanics to understant and describe the total behave of this universe, at least. don´t you think? we might be never sure about the real story

You cannot compare Tesla to Hawkings, both are genisus in different fields. Tesla was the god of eletrical engineering of his time, and hawkings of theoretical physics in his time. Both are unique and should be help in reguards to what was available to them at the time. I consider them equals.

The most important question is "where do the laws of physics come from? The answer to that question would answer even more questions, like "did a god create the universe?"
@vizman8585
@vizman8585 4 года назад
"laws of physics" aren't really laws. they're phenomenon as we know them thus far. as such it's a leap of absurdity to say they're "created" by something.

Theory is the scientific start of new ideas, many will be wrong. But it takes many theories to find the small window of truth and fact. Hopefully medical science will progress faster then Prof. Hawkins and he will one day be able to explain his theories by mean other than a computer voice. (seriously someone write him a voice program that takes voice inflection into account. I KNOW it can be done.)

Theres no reason to start comparing Tesla to Hawkings.. But if you did Tesla's accomplishments, even the ones that stayed in his head or on paper, are unmatched by any to this day.
