For an author who has written some of the most horrific books, he sure does give off an incredibly positive energy!

All that talent and horrific books have Stephen King on the wrong team. Separation from God is death not physically dying. For those who believe in Jesus, they have eternal life with God. Stephen King has chosen to pass on that possibility. How do I know this to be true? He said it himself. "People who believe strongly in an afterlife have further to fall."

@@augustbarone7189 i took it like hes curious. the fact that he can explore our dark side without falling into "IT" means Holy Spirit is walking with him... hmmm but his ego is preventing him from talking to him... religion is a distraction... when YOU can tell me what religion (war chief) Jesus is then we can debate lol

I know this will sound weird to some people and to some they will sadly know where I'm coming from. Stephen King saved my sanity as a teenager. When i read his books i could leave my horrible home life for a few chapters at a time. If I'm honest more than a few chapters at a time. But i digress. When people talk about his drug/alcohol abuse. He's human. Mr. King is the one who told us He had a problem. He's overcome His addictions and is a better man for it. Also from what i see and hear His kids are well adjusted human beings. Be like Stephen King!

Wow, what a remarkable man. He will always be my favorite author. Just finished Revival and it is thought-provoking and incredibly astounding. I can also appreciate Stephen King's belief in God. If anyone is interested in what he is discussing by saying that "there is nothing to lose by believing in God", he is appealing to a philosophical argument entitled Pascal's Wager and I encourage anyone who is interested to research it. The philosophical reasoning has convinced me of the existence of God and it has certainly convinced Mr. King as well.
@Sunomis
@Sunomis 9 лет назад
You mean Pascal's scam ? That argument is as old as it is flawed. The belief in God is wishful thinking, nothing philosophical in it.
@LastBastian
@LastBastian 9 лет назад
Leah Shell Sunomis has it right. Pascal's Wager is a logical fallacy. Terrible reason to believe. (or more like fake belief, to be honest)
@Sunomis
@Sunomis 4 года назад
@Random L3vel I'm not debating that and I actually agree with you on this. My point is that you don't decide which proposition is correct by "wagering" à la Pascal.
@Sunomis
@Sunomis 4 года назад
@Random L3vel Yes, I know the meaning of Pascal's wager. This implies infinite punishment vs finite reward, but it doesn't take into account that God's existence might be infinitely improbable. Anyway, when I posted this four years ago I used to enjoy those discussions, but I don't anymore. If the subject interests you, there are many videos that discuss the philosophical implications of the wager (rather than theological videos). Have a nice evening.
@billscannell93

Pascal probably wrote it as a joke, and Richard Dawkins blows it clean out of the water. One problem with it is, which god should we believe in? It might be safer to not believe in any of them than choose the wrong one. (In the Bible, pathologically jealous Yahweh is always enraged when his followers cheat with Baal.) Another problem is, why does this god demand, above all else, BELIEF in him/her/it? Might not the god require kindness, logical thinking or anything else instead? And like someone else here pointed out, belief is not really a choice; I can't up and choose to believe in the Easter Bunny. So a person could only fake belief, which the god might disapprove of more than honest disbelief.

Faith in God goes far beyond religious traditions and beliefs. It's a relationship between us and our Creator, our Father in Heaven. When someone calls someone else out for their own thoughts and opinions, it's the religion that does it. Not the belief itself. If more Christians focuses on what Christ would do instead of what we would do, then the Salem witch trials and the Spanish Inquisition wouldn't have happened.
@billb7735
@billb7735 5 лет назад
the faith is in the goat herders that originated the myths. in order to have faith in a god, or a relationship with a god, that god would have to exist. the faith rests on the goat herders being right. the fact that the ancient texts are obvious products of the people of that place and time, and the idea that a deity would only reveal itself to few people in one part of the world and then rely them to get it written...shows that it's just ancient mythology.

The idea of an inevitable, hellish afterlife regardless of what your beliefs or deeds are in life is actually a pretty good metaphor for the anxiety people have about there being no afterlife at all. People are so terrified of nonexistance that the closest approximation we're capable of is Hell, regardless of the fact that no afterlife means that you will simply detach as your body and brain breaks down and basically fall into a dark, endless sleep. You're not going to feel pain, or fear, or misery, or anything else ever again.But its impossible to really imagine because we have no way of grasping not existing, so fear is the only response we're capable of.

Also the fact that he has no fear of death shows he has profound conviction in his beliefs. I dont think he is strictly religious, but that he has a broader understanding of God than christian dogma teaches, basically because hes too smart to buy into it wholesale.

He losely believes in God.. he has a "just in case" view of belief. Any (existant) God would see thru that type of belief. Respect to the man though because many people have the same reasoning he has and aren't bold enough to say it.
@kennethyoung7564
@kennethyoung7564 2 года назад
@@matthewlong3716 I don't know. He may not be religious in the traditional sense, writes pretty dark stuff, but he did say his belief in God helped him pull through addiction, so there may be more there than meets the eye, he is just agnostic about what God is, and is not into organized religion. Him and I would have differences of opinion on many issues, and there is nothing wrong with that.

There is a downside if you believe in an imaginary place like a heaven. Because if you think that you are going to heaven anyway, maybe you are then not really caring about your current life, I guess that is kind of a threat. If you are not believing in a heaven or something like this you have every reason to make the best out of this one life you have, because it is the only chance you have got to make it right. In my opinion religion is just an abondenment of logical thinking and it's just lazy to stop reasearching all about this unisverse during this limited time we have got and believe in a supernatural being and supernatural places that we end up being at after we die. It's comforting, I am sure, but also lazy and often even dangerous..

After reading The Revival, I can honestly say that my former favorite author needs to retire. In his golden years, Mr. King has become a VERY woke and bitter author, subtly spewing his far left venom at his longtime fans. He has become a typical, cranky, old person that thinks HIS views on religion and politics are the right ones, and he creates superficial, cardboard characters to get his pathetic messages to the masses. Shame on Mr. King, and shame on me for purchasing and reading this book..... which is so full of dog whistles I lost count of them. I must say, from ages 14 through 45, I considered this man the best at what he did. This is the gifted writer that gave us The Shining, 'Salem's Lot, The Dead Zone, Firestarter, Carrie, Christine, Cujo, The Stand and many more. It's really heartbreaking that he chose the radical route. The bitter and radical man that wrote this novel (Revival) couldn't possibly write another enjoyable classic like the aforementioned novels. He has went from a masterful storyteller for all, to a radical leftie for a select few. His last 5 or so novels prove this, with Revival being the final nail. Goodbye Mr. King, it was good while it lasted.

How does one *choose* a belief? I mean you either believe or you do not, based on weather or not you are convinced of something or not. Otherwise you are just *pretending* to believe. Lying to yourself (or others) as it were.

God has given us free will to choose to believe or not to believe. No one is forced to be a believer. So by saying what he said, he demonstrates the key tenet if Christianity.

In the Quran, you do good works to go to heaven. In the bible, it's blind faith for a slave caste. Muhammad even wrote that the ink of a scholar is worth more than a martyr. I'm not Muslim, as I am unable to be in my culture, but the Quran makes sense. I still read the Bible and the Quran both.

Read about Stephen King celebrating the Republican train crash that left one person dead. Yeah, he's a total creep. I would not make any cruel comments about any democrats being in an accident. People should be a little more considerate about commenting on when things like this happen.

I suspected SK believed in god and did it because of A.A. rehab. I love the guy and his books (one of my fav authors)... too bad he’s fallen for the two worst arguments for the existence of god. Pascal’s Wager is the most horribly, flimsy (and cowardly) argument put forward so far. And having wishful thinking driving your beliefs is very harmful and a weak argument. I would bet 90% of the American public buys into these arguments. Having an imaginative story using ‘supernatural’ events is fine because these are hardwired into our reptilian brain and make us human, binding us together. But as for god’s existence... no evidence and therefore no belief

seen it happen thousands of times. there is no rehabilitation. hopeless variety alcoholic/addicts who do not experience the psychic change that comes with a surrender will live out the rest of their lives in misery as a best case scenario. most cases they just die young. educate yourself. i've been to about 5 funerals in the just over 10 months i've been sober. how many have you been to? i'd like to see you look into the eyes of those parents and say what you just said. these people have been in and out of treatment their entire lives just because they've been told "they just need rehabilitation" and now they're dead. king fortunately knows this and is able to stay with us to provide us with his fantastic storytelling.

He also said that believing helped him overcome addictions. So I think he also believes in the divine power of God. That's what I got out of it anyway. When you are in the darkest deepest place, you either make the choice to try to scramble along the slippery sides till you wear out, or you beg for a ladder up. He begged for the ladder and got it.

Makes a good show, but inwardly a miserable, disturbed and morally twisted man, evident through his imagination. Turn from the false god of money, Stephen, turn to God's Son, Jesus Christ, before it's too late! You, too, readers! Peace. If one truly turns away, they were never on the way to begin with. :(
