The 70s: The decade where the statement "That is some glorious hair" applied to both the men and women.

"Carrie" is not only an effective horror film, it's a heartbreaking tragedy. Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie are simply magnificent as plaintive, victimized daughter and violently disturbed mother. Hollywood should take note: In order to understand a film, we have to feel something towards the characters(sadness, anger, fear, respect, as examples), not just watch people read lines like they have nothing better to do.

"Billy, meanwhile, is getting back at the pig who turned him down for prom." LOL!

Gotta love Stephen King's bullies. They are all borderline insane. Really makes you wonder what his school life was like.

"We still have to find out who spiked the vodka with fruit punch" I laughed waaaay too hard over that joke...

Carrie and Star Wars were cast in a joint session, so a lot of the actors auditioned for both movies. Sissi Spacek was almost Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher was almost Carrie.

So the Jennifer movie goes for straight up attempted murder. Pure brilliance.

'House' should have featured William Katt flashing back to the prom massacre rather than Vietnam.

The best thing is that with ripping-off Carrie in Jennifer they went as far as to cast another girl of Czech descent with a bird surname (Špaček means Starling in English and Pelikan is, I think, self-explanatory) for the main role. Now that is some dedication!

One of the things from the 80s I would want to bring back was the roller skating rinks. For kids under 10 or so, the music, snacks, disco lights, etc. were pure cheesey goodness.

Carrie (1976) still scares me, almost as much as memories of middle/high school, after all these years.

Only took me over two years, but I finally saw JENNIFER. It's actually pretty good.

Wow. I just love how Jennifer came out two years after Carrie but has significantly worse video and sound quality. That ending scene was pretty hilarious though, like the 70's version of Anaconda.

The quality between the two movies is quite staggering. Carrie looks timeless while Jennifer looks what I imagined every 70s movie look like

I think it is St. Sebastian (?). Also note how she orgasms at the pain. 16:06 you can see glimpses of that original ending with the “rocks from heaven” crashing through the ceiling. I think the reason they ditched it is you couldn’t really _see_ what was happening, especially at night. 16:36 fun story: when Steven King went to watch the film, he sat in the very back row. According to him, 2 of the biggest, baddest black dudes came in and sat in front of him. When the movie started with the shower room, they were laughing and King thought “how in the hell are these guys going to get scared?” ... _but_ ... as the movie went on, they got quieter and quieter. When the movie got to this part, both of those guys _jumped in the air screaming_ when Carrie’s arm grabbed Amy. And King sat behind them... smiling 😁

I think Carrie is a good anti bullying psa, and that we need to teach kids morals and empathy more in classes.

The GIGANTIC snake in Jennifer resembles the one in Conan the Barbarian (in that scene where they're stealing the jewel in the snake cult tower). And I'm disappointed that you didn't show/remark on her little victory twirl at the end of hat flick.

Carrie well deserves its' legendary status. Jennifer..... I mean, it deserves a watch, it's not a bad popcorn flick and you really DO want to see the bullies get theirs.

I remember watching Carrie on network tv when I was a kid. Sissy Spacek scared the hell out of me so much, I refused to see her in another movie for a few decades.

I saw Carrie when it first came out, the audience screamed at the ending.

These movies, while polar opposite, were both awesome!

That Jennifer feature really made me a bit uncomfortable. So they had this idea to make a Carrie feature but worse and more mean spirited. So lets throw in a psycopath that tells a jock to rape a fellow student and thenshe herself attempts to drown the protagonist that just wrong. For every Snob stephen king review we get we are getting closer and closer too maximum overdrive. I cant wait.

Here's a funny detail: At 9:52 in the hair salon, PJ Soles is sitting under the hairdryer with her hair in curlers... her hat is on top of the hood, like she is still wearing it. Although this does bring up the question as to WHY was she getting her hair done since she was just going to wear a hat anyway.

"Carrie" truly is the backstory to "Charlotte's Web". If John Travolta had seen that "prize pig" message he'd have never gone through with the prank! Also, if the blond haired guy from "House" (=was it Ian Ziering? IDK maybe his dad? LOL) had only realized he was the "great American hero" he could have stopped the whole thing! can you imagine if he and Carrie had a kid? She'd be Firestarter for sure! And their cat and dog would be Church and Cujo of course....

I actually got to see a demo of Showscan here in Brisbane in 1988. The Hoyts Cinema showed the short “Kiwi Adventure”. It was pretty impressive & I was disappointed nothing much came of it.

I surprised you didn’t go for “Phenomenon” the Dario Argento movie with Jennifer Connely, as a girl who controls insects.

It took me so long to figure out that the dummy being thrown down a well at 33:22 was supposed to be the guy being eaten by the snake. Just why the snake's stomach is portrayed as a sheer drop with a solid concrete floor is beyond me; but I guess they tried.

An interesting Carrie remake would be one were Carrie's powers are expanded upon to use precognition, (or otherworldly foresight), were she percives going on a rampage and other events, but their either vague or out of context, so while she desperately tries to avert that fate, her efforts lead to other terrible. Sorta like the plot of MK9.
