Neil became rich on the EU Gravy train. Losing out on the PM job was the best thing that could have happened to his bank account.

@@evolassunglasses4673 What? EU membership was Margret Thatchers policy? Classic gammon, still blaming Labour for Conservative government policy. Try to read a bit you are hilariously uninformed.

I wanted Labour to win in each election through the eighties and nineties and the defeats were desperate. The 1992 defeat still hurts me and was one of the saddest days of my life. I am on the left but had faith in Kinnock in his pitch to become Prime Minister. By today's standards he was way to the left of the Labour Party. However he moved the party too far to the right. Yes, he paved the way for the 1997 victory but the price of this was that Labour accepted the Thatcherite settlement. The treatment of Kinnock by the media was egregious but the Labour right's attack on Corbyn for advocating nothing more than social democratic policies that were to the right of the 1945 manifesto was unforgivable. The left of today is nothing like the left of the past yet both have been conflated. This was a moving interview.

Kinnock was okay in hindsight, slightly to the left of Tony Blair and far to the right of Tony Benn.

You do know that Maggie never wanted to leave the EU don't you? In fact I think she enjoyed negotiating with them as she did well in those negotiations. And yet you threw those advantages she negotiated away... ...Kinnock maybe didn't lay a glove on her and neither did you as you were too busy stabbing her and her legacy in the back. But she was never a Brexit ally to you.
