"It's still not conclusive enough."
Labour's 20 point lead isn't enough to make Neil Kinnock confident that Starmer has won at the next election speaking to #TimesRadio.

So Kinnock thinks the public will grow to trust Starmer and find him dependable? Is he talking about the same Starmer that has already reneged on every single pledge he made to become party leader? The fact is, he’s managed to lose the trust of traditional labour voters before he’s even got into power.
@thegrandmuftiofwakanda
@thegrandmuftiofwakanda 8 месяцев назад
The interests of the red wall, traditional working class, blairites, EU pant sniffers, Islam, militant trade unionists and blokes in dresses who want to use the ladies bogs are too mutually exclusive to be satisfied by one party. That middle aged gammon Sir Rodney "Beer" Starmer will not be able to keep all these plates spinning.
@thetragicyouth

Exactly this. Starmer is dishonest and duplicitous, and he has shifted Labour not to the centre, but to the centre-right. He simply does not deserve the support of progressive voters.

It may have been Thatcherism that put us in this mess in the first place, but The Tories abandoned Thatcherism a long time ago. David Cameron was probably the last Thatcherite prime minister, and I doubt even he really believed that Thatcherite policies could bring economic prosperity anymore. Thatcher would never for one second have entertained the idea of Brexit, let alone a hard one. She would also never have allowed such levels of open corruption. The current Tories are worse than Thatcherites. They work in the interests of oligarchs who thrive from looting the wreckage of failing economies. All that Russian money is donated to the Tories (and the Republican Party in the US) for a reason. It's from people who got unimaginably rich from the economic collapse of the Soviet Union and want similar opportunities from the collapse of Western economies.

It always makes me laugh when they say last 14 years, Cameron came into power with a damaged economic disaster that the Labour Party brought about. Cameron is the reason why as a country, we are not completely bankrupt. I'm not saying he did not make mistakes, but if he continued to borrow to fund the Labour parties policies, we would be in serious trouble. Cameron's mistake was having a brexit vote then jumping ship after the result. If he implemented such a big political change, he should of followed it through. The conservatives took a nose dive following his resignation. Labour will be a disaster.

Labour is now a Londoner party, split into at least 3 or 4 very different factions, all in their own echo chambers, but currently sitting on their hands untill and IF Labour get into power, IF an election win did happen, it will all very quickly unravel , as each faction goes for a power grab of overall control of the labour party and to obviously govern, it will be bloody..... However IMO it will be another hung parliament for me, with possibly Labour having a handfull more seats...and thats on the back of an absolutely shocking Tory Gov`t .

@thetragicyouth
@thetragicyouth 8 месяцев назад
It's Labour strategists (including Mandelson) pushing these stories - they are worried that if the election result seems like a foregone conclusion and a huge Labour majority, then there will be no incentive for Labour-voters who hate Starmer to bother to vote. They are also worried about the number of votes they are losing to independent and Green candidates: not enough for independent candidates to win, but enough to ensure that Labour candidates lose.

I remember 1992 very well , about a week before the election, I had a strong gut feeling Kinnock's Labour party weren't going to win. This time feels very different, the Tories have failed catastrophically and they're much more divided. Also, Joe public just didn't see Kinnock as Prime Minister material. The public also might view Starmer as boring but he carries an air of being a Prime Minister who would be competent.
@crispybits3765
@crispybits3765 8 месяцев назад
Completely agree and my memory is the same. I just had a sense that Labour back then were taking it for granted, even if Neil says that they weren't. As you rightly say also, their opponent (as bad as they seemed at the time) were nothing like as bad as this Tory mob. One thing that does make me slightly nervous however is the press. They helped to undermine the Labour campaign back then and in these fake news times, I worry about the tactics that the Tories will use, as they are so desperate now. Starmer needs to take the gloves off too, if they play that game.

The media portrays the next general election as a foregone conclusion and Labour might as well collect the keys to No 10 and start measuring the curtains. My feeling is Labour will be the largest party but possibly not with an overall majority or might just have a small majority. Apart from Labour, I would be interested to see if the Muslim vote brings a number of independent MPs and see what happens.

Labour have had a 20+ point lead for well over a year. What makes you think people will vote for a continuation of the disaster of the last fourteen years? I'm truly curious as to your reasons.
@williammore558
@williammore558 8 месяцев назад
@@martinmurphy9679 I've been around long enough to had seen many many elections that never turned out as predicted by the polls although polls are getting much closer to reality these days. What many people say right now to vent their anger may not necessarily translate to the ballot box. I suspect there will be plenty foregoing the ballot box than voting for Labour which is the bulk of my reasoning. Problem with Labour is perception and up to now there isn't any coherent policies that we can digest and ponder over. The strategy of not upsetting the applecart can only go so far but once the real meat is on the bone, well, it will depend.

I typed it on my phone and you need to get over yourself. It will be very unlikely because they are coming from so few MPs, the electoral boundary changes favour the Tories, the rightwing media hasn't started scrutinising and attacking Labour yet and Keir Starmer is nowhere near as popular as he ought to be at this point in the election cycle. He might make Labour the biggest party if he plays his cards right but chance of a majority let alone a big one is just low.
