Stephen's Tribute To Antonin Scalia 

“The judge who always likes the results he reaches is a bad judge.” - Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia We lost a patriot, I hope there will be others with such empathy, character, and devotion to justice and the American People.

While I don't agree with everything Scalia did, I have the utmost respect for his protection of our constitutional rights and public security. He was also a man of true heart and character. Anyone who disrespects the man just because he believed in creationism is a loon and is everything wrong with this country.

Imagine Colbert in that room where he absolutely destroyed the president and media ruthlessly at such a tense time. At the end, he had to want to run out of the room but luckily Scalia came up and talked to him. It's in those moments where a person's true color shows. One of the few Republicans who could take a joke and it's sad how his death quickly became political.

He was a powerful jurist and a man of firm principle (which I totally disagreed with but had to respect). This showed he also had the single most important trait of a person with true power (and he did have this), he could and did laugh at himself. If this man was the enemy of my beliefs then I will say he was an enemy of the highest quality that I could respect. RIP

I'm very liberal and by no means agree with Scalia, but can't you guys at least be respectful?

People immediately boiled down Scalia's death to the political ramifications, and no one has seemed to bother talking about him as a human being. Thank you Steven for giving this man some measure of respect and dignity

Scalia was a man that could separate someone’s political ideology from their personality the man should be an idol to everyone because of this people shouldn’t be separated on their political believes everyone should watch how Scalia acted and treated people that he disagreed with this man was a truly respectful man and should be remembered for a long time to come

Justice Antonin Scalia did his job according to his beliefs. That people here judge him so callously for his beliefs speaks of their own intolerance and ignorance. I disagreed with many of his rulings, however a powerful, judicious, man, one who stuck to his principles, passed away, and should be respected. In addition, that's a misinterpretation of a quote. Scalia was remarking on how, based on the Constitution (of which he swore to uphold and defend for his lifetime as a Supreme Court Justice), if he received a fair and full trial then the sentence would be Constitutional. That doesn't mean that he thinks it's right, and he himself said that he wouldn't be surprised if the death penalty is ruled unconstitutional. This is the full quote, from a dissenting opinion on the retrial of Troy Anthony Davis. "This Court has never held that the Constitution forbids the execution of a convicted defendant who has had a full and fair trial but is later able to convince a habeas court that he is “actually” innocent. Quite to the contrary, we have repeatedly left that question unresolved, while expressing considerable doubt that any claim based on alleged “actual innocence” is constitutionally cognizable." The fact is, Scalia was a conservative justice. By that, I mean that he would uphold exactly how he believes the Constitution and past courts have voted, and he would very rarely try to re-interpret or challenge a past court. He wouldn't twist the court for progressive issues, if he believed in them or not. You can agree with him sticking to the Constitution, or you can disagree, but either way, you must respect him for sticking to his beliefs and fulfilling his duty as he saw it.

This is the one time I am ashamed of the liberals in the comment section. If you are a liberal and think conservatives hate on people because of their different views, STOP HATING ON SCALIA BECAUSE OF HIS DIFFERENT VIEWS. He may not have been the smarted, most fair Justice out there, but pay respect were respect is due. You'd be pissed if conservatives started celebrating Obama's death, right? Don't be the same.

Justice Scalia's grandson Chris goes to my high school and I can only imagine how he's taking all the jokes about his granddad's death. Many think he was a great man and even if you don't agree, you can at least give him and his family the respect they deserve in this tough time.

When I need to feel brave and want to laugh, I watch the 2006 White House Correspodents dinner. I love the clip of Scalia genuinely laughing, the only person smiling in the whole front row.

That White House Correspondence speech from Stephen is legitimately one of the most ballsy, greatest comedic performances I've ever seen. Cutting, intelligent, and brilliant. Seeing Scalia laugh at Stephen's joke was nice, as so many of the politicians there had no sense of humor at all while Colbert savaged them.

Thank you, Stephen, for not going straight into the political effects of his death. I'm glad someone decided to pause and reflect on Mr. Scalia's legacy for a bit.

I am a Canadian and, most of you think correctly, that we are more to the left. But I have to say that prior to 1982 (adoption of our Charter), Justice Scalia would have felt at home in Canada (and the UK). Judges in Canada were much more restrained than in the USA.

This was a very honorable thing to do. I am, admittedly, a liberal (gasps), but when I heard of Scalia's passing I was shocked and disgusted at the amount of disrespect, both in the form of insensitive jokes and flat-out hostility and hatred. I don't care what people's politics are or what disagreements they may have with the opposing side; every person deserves dignity and respect at their passing...particularly for a position as important and honorable as a United States Supreme Court Justice. Thank you for being so cordial and respectful, Stephen. You are a true Patriot.

Justice Scalia was neither evil, racist, nor an asshole. His personal views didn't come into view while interpreting existing law, which was his job. He was greatness. All you haters need to clean the lens through which you view life.
