You use magnifying glass function because you cannot see the UI details, but your years of experience help younger generation to rise above particular and details and see the soundscape from above, watching the full picture. Respect to your tutorial!

I love Steppic it's a stealth sequencer with a lot of hidden jems and with bitwig you can do a lot of modulation. BTW after watching you for a while I am now a sub. Love your content.

Great video, Ian! You answered every question of mine somewhere in this video. I believe that this is something I'll get just because it beats the Logic arpeggiator by a mile. Cheers!

.Glad it was useful, Jim. Don't use Logic but suspect no built-in sequencer will come close

I ❤ stepic for its simplicity. I use it to drive not just instruments but also other sequencer devices. For example, it can drive the pattern selection, pitch and chords of each of the four sequencer modules in the NDLR hardware unit. To respond ro your question re Stepic in other DAW, it works very well in Bitwig. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to change the steps length of any of track via midi controls. That that I could "play the pollyrythms" I understand the next update will include more midi controller support, so fingers crossed.

Stepic is fantastic, alongside Harmony Bloom it is my go to for sequencing, especially Stepic’s 8 modulation lanes means you can create infinitely evolving sequences

Thank you, very detailed. Are there features you think should be added to Stepic 2.0?
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh 2 месяца назад
I'm sure Jens has plans for that 😊 As with much software that gets significant updates the GUI is in danger of becoming cluttered but perhaps that's just my own problems... I haven't used all of the features - it's just the way I work - and honestly can't think of anything that's missing.

It’s possible that if my original version of Cubase Essentials from 2006 was loaded with this type of step sequencer, I might have been more compelled to explore this world. As I think I’ve written before, even though I do not discriminate against people who do use sequencers or the like in their material, I’ve gotten a habit of doing it all by hand.
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh 4 месяца назад
Early Tangerine Dream made me fall in love with step sequencers ❤ I guess making them in software is a natural development. but before Stepic and the like, you had to record everything manually. Stepic lets you easily add random elements that would be difficult to do manually.. Hats off to youfor your approach 👍

hi Ian, some time ago is also have bought stepic, its a great tool to get movement in your compositions, did you know there is also a great tool to make your own instruments without coding in kontakt, it's called kontakt GUI maker from Rigid Audio, the creator adds new features with every update, but it can do a lot already, adding backgrounds, controls (+asigning controls) etc, and all with simple draging in the UI, it then makes all the files and code necessary to make the imported bkg and control work, cheers mate
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh 3 месяца назад
Hi Ronny - yes, heard about the Kontakt Gui which sounds really cool for those of us without graphic design dkills 👍 but you still have to create the sounds 😱 Have you created an instrument with it?
@ronnyb5890
@ronnyb5890 3 месяца назад
@@IanWaugh yes Ian, making an instrument is very simple, to create samples is also easy, load a vsti, make a sound/patch with it, in your DAW, create the notes (quarter/half note duration) you want to export (exmpl C2-C5), export them as wav, and name them note1_C2.wav, note2_C2#.wav, and so on, then you can import these wav files into the kontakt instrument you've created, there is even a menu choice in kontakt (right click the samples to show the menu) to place the samples on the right key so you dont have to do this manually, cheers mate

TBH to me it looks like a very standard step sequencer with all the basic features I'd expect from one. Note repeat is the only feature I can't remember seeing anywhere else. *Stochas* seems to be much more powerful, but because of that it's probably not as convenient to use. Also its UI is not the best looking one ever, although apparently it supports custom themes (I have never tried that). But most importantly, it's open source and multi-platform. Personally, I prefer hardware sequencers like the Korg SQ-1 because it's so much fun to experiment with patterns by just turning knobs and pressing physical buttons.
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh 4 месяца назад
Re features: I assume you're talking software - a similarly- featured hardware sequencer would be the size of a wall 😄 Yea, Stochas is cool, too 👍 Steppic works more like I'd expect a hardware step sequencer to work which, I think, makes it more ilmmediately-accessdible. Totally agree abbout hardware - would love to see something like this with real knobs 😄
@tuesss
@tuesss 3 месяца назад

Now we are talking sequencers! Squarp makes my current favorite sequencer, the Pyramid. Steep learning curves but great power comes with required learning sessions. If the defining metric is "step" ... the Pyramid is absolutely the best step sequencer I have. I have more than gotten my munies worth out of that machine! 👍

Great video. Digitakt has a feature called micro timing that lets you shift notes back or forward in time in micro amounts. Does Stepic have this feature? If not can it be implemented in a future update. Thanks.

A very under rated Arp/sequencer is the one on the Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2 synth. I just wish you could use the Arp/Sequencer on its own separately. here is a link to a video explaining it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_wHIUIW5AzA.html

I hope that the company continues support, sometimes these small companies can be the BEST, or fall short when they discontinue a product that you've gotten really used to using. I suppose only time will tell! : ) 🎹🎛🙂😁
