Thanks for making more dental hygiene school videos, there aren’t enough out there! I’m finishing prerequisites then applying. I’d love your opinion on the best study tips for getting good grades in prerequisite sciences. Did you have to retake anything to improve your grade? When do you apply? What state are you in? Thank you! I’m looking forward to your videos and journey.
I agree! There definitely aren't enough dental hygiene school videos! The key to studying is to figure out your studying style. Try googling "learning style inventory" and take one of those quick tests to see the best way to study based on how you interact with your surroundings. I'm more of a hands on visual learner so taking handwritten notes and making flash cards worked best for me. I didn't retake any of my classes, but I ended up with two A's and a B in my prereqs. My application was due mid January, and I just finished my interview on Wednesday! I should know by the beginning of March if i got in or not. I'm applying to a school in Kansas. What state are you going to school in?
Quan Nguyen yes I did! It wasn’t required at my school to finish the gen eds before applying, but it is required that they be done by the time you graduate the program. And honestly I would not try and do gen eds at the same time you take the program. It’s super hard and stressful without any added pressure of trying to finish boring gen eds lol!
Daisy V No, it was just an Associate of Arts degree. I actually came into the program with 0 dental knowledge! It’s been tough learning everything from the ground up, but it might be a blessing in disguise. If you learn something a different way in assisting, it can be hard to unlearn some things when you come into hygiene. But it really would have been helpful knowing some basics like how to take a radiograph or what the tooth numbers were 😂
simply by alayna it’s a bit hard for me to answer this completely straight, because I actually got my associates back in 2010 which included some of the prereqs that I needed for the program, and for the hardcore prereqs like microbiology and chemistry, it took me maybe a year? Year and a half? But I was only going to school part time and would go some semesters just taking one class. I would say though, on average with all of the prereqs including the standard ones like English, it shouldn’t take more than 2 years. Sooner than that if you take a full course load!
