i bought a philips amplifier with low power but when conecting it, i was kind of struck by lightening ,the way the high´s sounded ,this already having heard the best from Pioneer, Sansui, Kenwood or Marantz(that in the 80´s had the sound of this litle 79 F series from philips) i paid less of what today is 20 € and for two years i stoped my spec-1 and 2 to listen to this litle philips, both my pre and power amplifier from Pioneer were given to me by my father ,not my choice but i used to listen to music on them before they were mine(without permission)

I had a moment of realization that all of us are after the same thing, we just approach it in different directions. I began with 'imaging', then chased 'tonality', then pursued 'resolution', and finally after achieving a balance of these, I found the right mix of equipment (for me in my room on my budget, $5,000) that elicits the 'emotion' of the musician and the moment. Be encouraged! You are on the right path, maybe just coming at it from a different angle than others!

The early guy seems he was a little like Julian Hirsch of "Stereo Review." Measurements were everything. But I still enjoyed reading his articles, and was a subscriber of the magazine until they went of business. Also gone are "High Fidelity" and "Audio." I enjoyed them all. The only ones I get now are "The Absolute Sound" and "Stereophile."
@juanmillaruelo7647
@juanmillaruelo7647 3 года назад
Why did Stereo Review and High Fidelity 'fail'? A stash (late 60's early 70's) recently captivated me! They covered audio gear, but also music itself in depth and quality difficult to find today at least in magazine form. Has Internet, RU-vid et. al. been a factor? (Gutemberg's revenge!) The shift to AV and Home Theater skewed public tastes? Pity! Music as an art form in the home has suffered.
@dennisheadley4408
@dennisheadley4408 3 года назад
@@juanmillaruelo7647 I suppose it came down in part because of low circulation, and it was no longer economically feasible to continue publication. The audiophile community has always been a very small percent of the population. If more people actually heard a decent system, maybe the industry would do better. And it doesn't have to be expensive. Fifteen hundred dollars can get a pretty good entry level system that provides lots of entertainment.

Skip ahead 30-40 years. Nobody is going to be wishing that they had held onto their first Bluetooth speaker or ipod they owned. Do the world a favor and support your local audio tech, teach a ten year old how to handle records and turntables. Instead of selling off your accumulated analog equipment to guys your age and older, give it to a kid who reminds you of yourself, pass it on like the accumulated knowledge of an early tribal village. Take on an apprentice if you are an audio journeyman.

Thanks Steve and Herb! I’m of a similar vintage as you guys and I still fondly remember listening to “The Wall” hours on end with my Technics receiver, Technics turntable, and big Fisher speakers. In my college fraternity we catalogued all of our cassette tapes so we could play a game called select hits. You would give the “DJ” the side and counter number so no one knew what was coming until he hit play. My roommate in that fraternity opened my audio world from classic rock in Georgia to his eclectic library from Buffalo New York which included jazz and blues. It always has been and always will be about the music and our community.

actually, the Dynaco Stereo 120 didn't measure better...if you did the right measurements. The output stage was proudly proclaimed to have no quiescent current...True enough...so if you look at low level outputs, the harmonic series includes ALL the harmonics...basically miserable crossover distortion...If you turn the amp up, it becomes a diminishing fraction, but it's still there. Now, it can be a nice playground for upgrades, but that's another story.

Hey Guys, Great video! Regarding the Linn Sondek LP 12, I couldn't agree more. I purchased a used one with an Itok LV II tonearm for the crazy amount of $750.00 (probably never find that deal again). It came with an Ortofon 2M Red and it sounded pretty good. Then I installed a standard Denon DL 103 and WOW, I couldn't be happier. I like that you alluded to the wisdom of (lovingly) used equipment. The Linn resides in a system built with a used Audio Note PP-1 amp and M2 SE Phono Pre-amp with a K&K Audio stepup transformer and a pair of Snell Kii speakers w/an REL t5 subwoofer and again, I couldn't be happier. Could I get better? Of course (especially with the speakers), but at what cost? The point of diminishing returns certainly is a factor for me. Thanks for all you do for the audio community.

What I remember seeing was you had about 65k viewers then. Now I have watch some more than once too and my figure could be higher (couple of hundred) or lower (not less than 350.) .... You can't really be homeless and have 4 tube amps and ol'69 Sansui plus speakers; one of the pair of speakers I bought because of your recommendation, and etc (lots of etc.) .... so I doubt we'll ever meet, but I have enjoyed and find articles old and videos new worth my time if you are connected. - peace and 'Whole-Lot-of-Love' 100 db days to you! - m.
