Sterling Nova In Detail With Sounds 

OH do I know this car well. I built a Sterling in 1978 when I was still in the military. Talk about a hell of a lot of work. For example, I had to cut the holes in the dash board to install the gauges. After completing it I then knew why many people never finish building theirs. The looks I used to get was a bit of a thrill but it got old after a few years. Glad I built it but I would never do it again. On the other hand, I took on a project that was 100 times the work. I bought a 40 ft charter bus, gutted it, then converted it into fully self contained motor home. I'll never do that again....ya right!

A month after this video the engine's high-performance roller bearing crankshaft self-destructed - likely the engine knocking we were hearing. A new custom built stroker motor and one off exhaust system have been installed turning this machine into a new kind of beast

Sounds like a tractor pull truck from the 70's.

I have often worked on this car for its owner. Because actually have 12 of them in my collection after collecting them for the last thirty years. A month before this video, I put a new windshield, replaced the hood, converted to disc brakes and few other things. I enjoyed working on it. and luckily parts are still available.

I swear, this has to be the inspiration of Hot Rod's vehicle mode. All it needs is a V-shaped spoiler, two sets of exhaust pipes on the sides, and an engine protruding from the hood.

Me and my brother drove one of these. But without the lowered seats; there needs to be a custom floor-pan in order to get some headroom. We literately had no headroom. Our heads were pressed against the windscreen... So we drove it a little down the road but were too scared to actually buy it. But with some extra work, these cars looks absolutely beautiful.

I almost bought one of these for my first car back in 2001. I couldn't fit in it (I'm 6'1), but if it weren't for that I'd bought it in a heartbeat. Ended up going with a Trans AM instead.

I remember this car because Catherine Bach (Yes, Daisy Duke!) drove a car like this in one of the Cannonball Run movies.

I wonder if water comes in through the windscreen/door? Very nice looking but also wonder about safety with one door basically. What if you flip it or jam it somehow.

So I am gonna go out on a limb and admit I have only kown about this car for a little while but I have become obsessed I have owned a few cool cars even bought a Pantera in 2001 but I keep seeing these and really would like a rolling frame car the lines are amazing and an LS with bolt-ons or maybe a small snail would make it pretty sweet everone just wants to much but I might just have to pay a little bit more too get one, I hope sooner than later

Spectacular car, in Italy it was sold in an assembly box, it was called Puma GTV. It used the chassis and engine of the VW Beetle, alternatively the Alfa Romeo 4-cylinder boxer engine was also offered, with displacements of 1200cc. up to 1500cc. much more performing. Back in the day, lots of kit car makers were using the VW chassis for kit cars, it was so easy, just look at the beach buggy, which translated into a much better car than the Nova ever did (friend of mines son had a Nova)

I built a Sterling in 1973 body #13, 73 Corvette Yellow. Not a very practical car but fun to drive, also very uncomfortable to drive. I drove it for a couple of years and sold it to a young father and son. I wouldn't do it again.

Sterling Nova is the COOLEST 70s Supercar design. Too bad they wee all plonked on shitty Beetle chassis. Mount that body on spaceframe with 90's Porsche 911 manual running gear. That car deserves to go as fast as it looks!

I will tell you something......As kit cars go a well sorted nova is a proper cool car. Well build with a decent engine these things are not to be sniffed at.

The problem with those always was that they didn't drive as good as they looked. Egine in the rear just made it misbehave in corners.

Sounds like a lawnmower. Also with no windscreen wipers this car would fail the contrôle technique here in France and driving it one would risk a fine for a car not in proper working order.
