I don't know why I still watch these videos. I have more mics than you can shake a stick at now (mostly budget mics like the Berry XM8500 but I do have a Rode NT1 also which is my favourite)! It must be because of your entertaining personality, Bandrew!
Definitely enjoying your reviews and your humor !!! I seem to consistently lean toward the SM58 and SEV7 at the $100 price point in most of all the mic comparisons.
I am quite a fan of this microphone, if this was in the ~$40 range i'd love it. It's very bright and it's form factor and grill looks amazing. If and when im in the market for a microphone of these qualities im definitely picking it up.
I think the P20 is decent all around. You get a frequency response along the lines of an SM57. But a little hotter pickup than an SM58. I really did not hear anything that could not be fixed with some EQ. It looks and sounds like a decent tool to me. Especially for a home recording. The pickup pattern and rejection are decent. Sure you can spend $100 a piece for an SM58(57). But think about the person who buys a Zoom L16 recorder. Now you have to buy 8 microphones, cables and stands. $500 vs $1000 for microphones makes a big difference. If I were only going to buy 1 microphone, I might get something different. Great review!!!
I've had good luck using a brighter mic in live music productions on female vocalists. It helps their voices break through the mix. The Sennheiser e935 is one I use. I do not prefer this for male vocalists. Perhaps the Sterling P20 might work as a budget mic for live, female vocalists.
Everybody bashing sm58 that it's muddy (is it?) But when I hear comparisons against akg, v7, sennheisers, etc, sm58 has the most bass and body to it...
Not my fav sounding mic ever, but man thats what I call background noise rejection. If my friend had an audio interface id buy him this for Christmas. He gets infinite background noise lol.
Check out the AT2005USB. It has XLR too. Great sounding mic and in an untreated room, it is super quiet. It's a deep sounding mic. I think hand held, cardioids will be that way. It does step up to about 80.00 though.
Which do you think is better, the Sterling p20 or the Samson q2u? please answer because im looking to get a mic like this and want to get the best option
Very good review. 😂 How many mics do you own now? I agree with V7, nice design and tone but mine is V7x, an instrument mic useable for vocals if you add foam/pop filter. That Beyerdynamic V50D has interesting sound.
For what it's worth, today Guitar Center has the P30 (not this P20) model on sale for $39.99 (3/30/22), in case anyone happens to see this and might be interested today.
@@DWHarper62 Ohh you were joking, okay I got it, lol. I was thinking the same thing. Might be a good option for someone who doesn't have one or is in the market for a cheap backup.
@@Mithreniel Then they can reference the hundred other videos on budget mics that Bandrew has done... all of which are better than this one... If you only got $50 to spend, don't bother getting into whatever your doing with a microphone... Maybe an AV rental company buys a dozen for the inventory on this one...
if you want to combine perfect singing stage mic performance to get a great singing responsive warm sound with a perfect Stand Up stage mic that you can hold in your hand and throw around between your hands (handling noise) as a performer that likes to move around a lot, scream and laugh and do imitations with while doing stand ups without getting any noice disturbance what mics should one really look into!?🤔🙄🤷🏼♂️😅
I have an epiphany. I have found after watching about a half a million mic reviews (Okay, a few less) and purchasing 8 different mics to check, that these hand held, dynamic, cardioid mics should be pushed as the way to get "quiet" vo from a noisy or untreated room. Everyone wants to spend 400.00+ to look cool and I often see people comment on looks as well as sound but the raw audio from this style? Even at a low budget entry point? Sheesh. I'm beginning to think my expensive 'in your face' mics are totally overpriced, but are that way because of added size and looks. I do get that some people want their video content to include their gear choices. To me, mics should be primarily heard, not seen. My AT2005 sounds quieter than my condenser and broadcast mics. Even if they are also cardioid. Hmmmm Check recent episodes of Star Talk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Great sound from untreated home studios with basic cardioid mics. Expensive dynamic alternatives would require post processing.
@@Podcastage That will be fantastic. Compare against the Scarlett - please! The gain is Scarlett's achilles heel - curious how Audio Volt does. My lowly Behringer USB mixer has way more clean gain! (along with a huge unsightly wall wart that has both dc and ac outputs on it)
Less than $100 ?😱😳 It looks like you should've purchased a disguise kit or cut some mouth & eye holes in a brown paper bag for this review. Regrettably, you haven't reached the low-budget zone until you've gone under $30😆
"Nobody seems to notice that it's a microphone that proves the law of diminishing returns, because only someone as childish as me would admit that the emperor is FUCKING NAKED!"
If you think the Sterling doesn't cut it and there's no way for you to be a good podcaster/youtuber without the Neumann, please quit now. You're the same guy who things a $5000 guitar makes you a better player or that your car makes you more attractive. Any of these mics will do just fine, they all honestly sound almost the same. Just start recording things!
What in the actual heck are you talking about? Are you implying that I’m propagating the idea that you can’t be a good podcaster/youtuber if you use the Sterling?
