To those that are unaware, to add mountains of depth to an already amazing song, this song was written by Louis for his critically ill mother, cancer I believe. He was going to have her in the audience for X Factor, where he was going to debut the song and sing it in her honor. Unfortunately, his mother passed away before he could perform the song for her, with what I believe to be a very short span of time from her passing and the performance. A week or two if I’m not mistaken. If you go watch his first live performance of the song, he struggled to get through the song because he was fighting back his grief. It’s beautiful, but very hard to watch, because you can see and hear the pain he is in. I remember these details because he and I shared a very similar situation. He and I are the same age, and we both lost our mothers to cancer (breast and lung) within a month of each other (30 days). This song reverberated in my mind for months because of how meaningful it was to my personal situation, as well as the similar circumstance between the two of us. I am incredibly thankful that I had more time than Louis did, as I was fortunate enough to show my mother this song a few days before her passing. This song will forever be one of my top “I need to cry” songs.
