He is weary and grizzled and running low on hope, but there is not a songwriter out there more in tune with the mindset of the average American. We are not all hateful, gun-crazed, blind patriots. I still love my country, despite her fall from grace. I love her because I know her, and I still believe she is capable of more good than bad. People like Steve Earle are the proof.

The guitar player is Nick Forster. He played bass with Pete Wernick in the bluegrass circles for many years. I know Pete and, if Nick is anything like him...he’s very cool.

enunciating the words would have helped I REALLY, REALLY love this song it was one of the first songs my lady and ever danced to and we jumped up and danced every time we heard it at the country club, but since the 90s he has wasted his talent (as far as I can see)...I really miss those days.. :( , either way thank you Steve for the memories
