So he was 17 years old and put in front of a 40 piece orchestra and told to do it. Then he nails it in two takes! Absolutely astonishing.

That's so very true, never get tired of hearing it, the intro to the song along with the orchestral backing and singers was (and still is) absolutely outstanding.I honestly still get that same wonderful feeling that it gave me in December 1967 as a 15 year old when it was released and then went on to become number one in February 1968 .Yes, as Steve Ellis says here about the production of this record "weve something special here ". Brilliant record !

This song is haunting and takes me back to being a little girl with mum mum playing it. I only found it again a couple of years ago and hadn’t realised he was so young. He sounds like a grown man. It is simply amazing on all levels.

Steve Ellis had a maturity in his voice that belied his young looks... to hear that voice come out of that baby face was amazing even when I was a teen... I have never loved another bands songs more than Love Affair, and still my heart misses a bet when I hear those songs from my youth

" We've got something Special ", that had to be the understatement of the year !, 'Everlasting Love' was THE !, sixties anthem , a very special song., perfection !. Whenever you hear it today it's hard to believe it was all those years ago, ie, the sixties, the best time ever to be alive ! Still raises the hair on my neck everytime I hear it.

It's weird isn't it. The sound of it isn't 'timeless' - that amazing huge orchestral pop/soul sound is firmly locked down in the 60s. But the chords, melody, chorus lyrics and brilliant vocal performance are eternal!

Everlasting love was my turning point. A young totally naive 17yr old that met a DJ who was to transform my life! I danced and danced for ever it seemed! I was totally bewitched! Got pregnant for the DJ and launched into Northern Soul. As one of the few who was living in a flat at the time I had loads of visitors that my parents would have been totally bewildered by! I passed A-level art at the age of 13 and drew a portrait of Steve as I was bewitched! A few years later in my life I met a partner who along with me ran a reggae sound system - my portrait of Steve was pride of place in the record box - alongside Bob Marley and Steel Pulse! I have so many treasured memories! Am watching RU-vid and other channels and I love it! Nearly 70 now and virtually crippled ( not my backside!) so dancing sitting down but still loving it! My kids(4girls) are carrying on the trend hehehe! Love to everyone out there with soul 😊😊😊🤭

I read that there were two versions of this recorded. The single was the orchestra and session musicians with Steve Ellis on vocals, but there was another version produced by Muff Winwood which was just the Love Affair band themselves. I'd really love to hear that recording.
