♩ Caravan performed by Steve Gadd & Friends August, 2008 @ Blue Note Tokyo Steve Gadd (ds), Ronnie Cuber (bs), Joey DeFrancesco (org), Paul Bollenback (g) Special thanks to BS FUJI Blue Note Tokyo : www.bluenote.co.jp
I could go on for hours about all the moments and skills that make this performance so amazing, but I'll try to resist that urge - the music speaks for itself. I would like to say thanks to Steve Gadd & Friends for helping me overcome my great prejudice against "Caravan." Nothing wrong with the tune - it's just that you get really, really sick of it after hearing it hundreds of times, especially when it is so often mangled. (TBH, I sometimes played a part in mangling it.) But as soon as I heard these masters playing it felt like a brand new tune. I would also point out that altho Paul Bollenback doesn't play much here, he's killer, too. Check out his other performances and instructional videos. Lastly, glad to see that the late Joey D. brought his trumpet - Marcus Miller has some hilarious and nearly unbelievable stories about Joey D.'s skills on trumpet, alto and tenor sax. Check them out!
A great many years ago, I was fortunate enough to play drums behind a B3 player who could pedal bass like this man. It was a massive delight. Especially since Kieth Davis was really a screeming lead guitar player. A masterful musician to be sure.
I’m glad that you enjoyed your gig with Keith Davis. Something else you might find rewarding: rather than spend time recounting your personal stories that the RU-vid audience doesn’t care about, take a few seconds to read the video description, learn the names of the players that are involved, and what they are about. Reading your comments, it seems like you’re unaware that the musician you call “this man” is the great Joey DeFrancesco, and that he passed away about a year before you made your comment. For myself and millions of other music lovers, it’s the people who make the music that is really important - way more important than chops or gear. You probably agree, but your comment suggests otherwise.🎼
Wait till you see him pulling a killer trumpet solo with his right hand, comping with his left on the B3 and walking the bass with his feet. Gadd doesn't play with people who are full of themselves. Only people who are full of music, talent and creativity.
@@fredericlinden If some young guy did the same thing, nobody would care. Because it's not that special. Gadd's great, but his following is more religious than anything. People is like: Wow it's Gadd so we have to be amazed!!!
@@Historiskafilmer "Because it's not that special"…"his following is more religious than anything"… so that's YOUR OPINION, altho I suspect you're being an attention seeking troll who has absolutely no idea about anything to do with music. If you want to find out what is special, you could check out what Anthony Jackson has to say about that, or maybe you could get the experience of the hundreds of big name artists and world class artists who who pay Steve top dollar to record and tour with them. But I'm pretty sure you're not gonna spend any time trying to learn something when it's so much easier to just go on making more dumb comments.
No, he serves the song, not like Dave "Brushing" Weckl, and a few others, it seems that you don't know anything about groove. Strange opinion for a fan of Steely Dan and Paul Simon!
