I met Steve Garvey once when I was like 6, one of my first sports memories. I remembered how strong and big his forearms were, shaking his hand was remarkable. Super strongly built dude, and a great ball player.
I don't think Cey dominated long enough but yeah I really enjoyed The Penguin.Actually,I believe Reggie Smith should be there, multiple All-Star,one of the best switch hitters ever!
1974 was definitely all about Steve Garvey! All-Star Game MVP National League MVP Had they had An MVP Award for the NLCS in 1974, Steve Garvey would have won it HANDS DOWN!
Love Garvey , I raised my boys here in Orange County Ca. But in the 70 's my family lived at Doger Stadium. Garvey, and the rest of the team. But Garvey was special! Now my boys have families and we are all headed to the poll's to vote for Garvey! 2024 ... YEA!
@nemesisgenius Dale Murphy, man how can they overlook back to back MVP's,great before and after plus his character,he brought so much to the game,he was an ambassador, that should have gone a long way towards getting in,it makes me mad and I was a Dodger fan then!!!
@nemesisgenius Yes,that was something else,RJ went on to play for the Pirates,Pedro looked like he'd be a Hall of Famer,he had some incredible years with the Dodgers!

Garvey... We lived at Doger Statium , and Steve was my secret fantasy... " never told my husband" ! Now , my two boys and my husband will be voting for the great #6 ... Garvey!
His politics, running as a Republican after baseball, as well as his personal proclivities is why. The HOF ceased being about abilities a loooonnnnnnngggggg time ago. Really sad.
@@TERoss-jk9ny yeah no that’s not the reason idiot lmaoooo but keep that conspiracy theory going. I’m sure no outspoken republicans are in the hall. Better yet I’m sure no douchebags from Georgia would sharpen their spikes and fight all the time
@@TERoss-jk9ny i really don't care if he's a Republican or a Democrat, he belongs in the Hall of Fame. Same goes to Curt Schilling. Ty Cobb is in the hall of fame despite the racist remarks he made.
@@paolo-n2000 Compared to the 1B in the HOF, Garvey comes up short. Simmons is among the top in all offensive categories among catchers. Rice, not good enough. Baines = JOKE. Gotta go by position. That is why there are so few 3B in the HOF.
@@dougbrowne9890 - if you compare Stargell's & Garvey's stats they're very similar. Both were NL MVP, both won NLCS MVP, Both won WS MVP, Stargell was a 7X All Star, Garvey was 10X All Star, Garvey won 4X Gold Gloves, Stargell never earned a gold glove. Hits: Stargell had 2232 - Garvey had 2599 HR: Stargell 475 - Garvey 272 RBI: Stargell 1540 - Garvey 1308 BA: Stargell .282 - Garvey .294 Runs: Stargell 1194 - Garvey 1143 OBP: Stargell .360 - Garvey .329 Garvey's stats are proof enough he is a legit Hall of Famer. IMO, Garvey has been grossly overlooked....
@@Jiltedin2007 but his impact with the Mexican American community (i include myself) he's way beloved and was a pioneer for more Mexicans to come to mlb but yeah he and Garvey should have both they're numbers retired and both should be hofers
I loved Garvey as a kid.I thought Ken Landreaux was going to be a superstar.I wonder how he did against J.R. Richard's being there were so many highlights against the Astros.Man,before the heart attack,J.R. Richard's or as Vinny would say, "James Rodney Richards" dominated the Dodgers, that sucked,he was going to be a Hall of Famer,Garvey should be there, great baseball memories!!!
@@dougbrowne9890 I'm a baseball fan. A Mets fan, to be precise. And Mr. Garvey was everything a Hall Of Famer is supposed to be. An MVP, World Champ, 5 different post-season appearances, 5 100-plus RBI years, 10-time All Star (deservedly so), a lifetime .294 average. And an excellent ambassador for the game of baseball.
Steve Garvey has 2 NLCS MVP Awards(1978 and 1984)? FALSE! He really should have 3, but unfortunately they did not have an MVP Award for the NLCS in 1974.
Of course Tinker To Events To Chance will always be known as the Greatest Hall Of Fame infield that ever existed. Not so. Although neither Garvey, Lopes, Russell or Cry really got any credit for doing anything, They were together for nearly ten years & All of them had different hitting skills, as well as being The Best double-play combo that baseball will ever see. As Lopes once put it - "You can't think of any one of Us, as, We all worked together. If one of Us gets in the Hall Of Fame, We all have to, as none of Us were better than The Others". In my opinion, He was right. May not have the legacy of Tinker,,, but All Four really proved themselves. No,. Garvey wasn't better.than The Other Three, He just looked better. Thumbs up to them all. 👍⚾
Just curious is steve garvey really about 5’10? Has anyone met him up close in person? Did he look that tall? In random photos of him with other people on the internet I always thought he was about average to maybe a little below average in height i would guess him to be around 5’8 to 5’9 at the most. If anyone has met him did he really feel/look around around 5’10 like the internet says he is? I just can’t really picture him as that tall he looks kinda shorter than a lot of people in pictures
Am pretty sure he was 5-10 while wearing baseball cleats. But you know, he demonstrated that a relatively short man could be a great defensive first baseman --
Garvey was amazing for sure. HOF? I just don't know. I do know that MLB should update the voting procedure fror the HOF though. The BBWA was at the ime the premier, the only organization that made sense but that is almost a century ago. The world and media has changed, papers, magazines and even books are all in different forms but only writers have the vote? Bullshit there.
He was neither a total power hitter or a singles hitter... but he clearly did hit for power and average. Main reason for this is that he was not paid to draw walks. He consistently put the ball in play and hit it hard. Did not draw a lot of walks so had a lot of at bats, and drove in a lot of runs. A unique player. Always lead his team in many heated pennant races.
I remember watching the games as a kid and I couldn't wait for Garvey's time to bat so I could look at him, his handsomeness and those Popeye forearms. Then I found out he's a Republican. Very disappointing.
