Wow! This is a beautiful version. I like it more than John's versions.

I've always admired the mutual admiration between Prine and Goodman. Prine later on always acknowledged Goodman's attributes. Loyalty to a friend is a fine tribute. And a mark of a true friend. The fact that their music carries on is an homage to their friendship and collaboration . Cancer and COVID brought down 2 great ones but the music lives on. What greater testament. RIP Mates!

Steve's voice is so sweet and smooth. And he does variations on john's original melody and makes them sound like they had always belonged there.

Steve is so humble here. Every other telling of that story I have read (including the one written by Kris) credits Goodman for introducing Prine to Kris and talking him up , but in this video Steve credits Kristofferson and says they just "drifted off to New York" together.

Thank you so much for posting this! Both John and Steve had a profound influence on my own years of playing and songwriting. Both were sweet, talented soul. I miss them a lot.

It's to nice the way you sing this song, John Prine sings it simpel but exacly the good way...straight from the heart.

John was the greatest songwriter and storyteller who could play guitar and sing a little. Steve was a musician.

And he was gone just a few months later. I wonder if he knew he was dying at the time.
