Yep definitely decent buffs on our boy! Steve is strong. Actually I think all characters are strong in TK8 it's just that a select few have things that are completely absurd and that skews the public opinion.
Lionheart 1+2 being 4 Frames faster and Launching on Normal Hit is an out of control Buff. When playing the spacing game and you do Manual Lionheart to make the opponent Whiff, and if successful, you land a big Launcher, and if you're late on your Punish, you Guard Break. *VERY* powerful attack now.
Manual LNH distance got nerfed, and the opponent has to either charge at you with a move that recovers standing after you do LNH, or you gotta start LNH almost point blank for 1+2 to work. LNH 2 is still better in neutral. 1+2 is just supposed to catch steppers on immediate timing. You CAN cut a combo short and try to do it on Oki, if you think they're not gonna duck on wake up. If they do anything other than blocking or ducking, that's game.
LH1+2 has virtually no range when you add the outfox from LH (even post nerfed), in fact, it even has less range making manual LH into 1+2 super situational compared to LH2 which is the one button meant to catch wiffs. You will rarely see a Steve catch a whiff with LH1+2. Furthermore, it was reactable before, that's why they redused it to less than 20f, it provided literally nothing for the character at high levels. Only scrubs thought LH1+2 was an option at all, it was however a good way to get launched for 50% HP gone against decent players. Now Steve has a true 50/50 with it being unreactable. Hope that clarified the changes.

That's indeed really whack. They give Steve a win condition whiff punish and nerf the mobility tool without saying anything. :T Now go see if they nerfed Kenpo, Azucena's or Dragunov's backswing blows.
Big thing people should know. Since they changed the strong aerial tailspin to pushback farther after using 2 of them in one combo (which was basically how Steve constructed combos), his combos have been heavily nerfed unfortunately.
i've commented before this nerf came out. Steve TK8 > Steve TK7. Everytime you get one hit, it's always 50 50. Y'all lucky ws1+2 doesn't have great followup after on hit.
Funny thing is that he was always strong, just not S tier, but the difference is not that wide. If you want proof, just watch Arslan get beat by pre-buff Steve in grand finals. Not sure where this brings him but he's definitely at least S tier now.
You're referring to Numan. An S tier Tekken player in Pakistan that specializes in Steve specifically. He's extremely talented to have gotten Steve to where he did, but it doesn't really prove that Steve _wasn't_ underwhelming.
You can micro dash into the ub2 combo route for lion heart 1+2 with the wall it gets 110dmg. I feel like I’m the only Steve disappointed with this because this really isn’t steve anymore from tekken 7. I have no idea what kind of direction they are trying to go with him because for the most part it makes little sense. Just revert Steve to his old self and he’ll be insanely fun to play again and getting rid of LH cancel just made it so every Steve pretty much plays the same again
Uf2 “Still not very good” that move is annoying asf. it crushes mids and lows if you time it right, its one of the moves i hate the most from him, like if im playing yoshi and even think about unblockable low, that move has decimated me more times than i can remember. Uf/2 is one of his best moves honestly, if used well.
i saw somewhere that ub3 got inadvertently nerfed? it apparently cant escape some mixups now like drag d2 into fcdf14 before, after getting hit by drag d2, steve could do ub3 and escape fcdf14, making it whiff completely to immediately launch punish it now it will get caught by fcdf14 if you try to ub3 against d2 on hit
I’m not familiar with Steve, but FC df1,4 after d2 on normal hit is not real. The +13 on d2 CH makes getting out of any follow-up by mashing a special option difficult, since the smallest gap possible is 3f
Yeah it might be a better outfox whiff punish than LH2 because it doesn't tornado and if you're late it still guard breaks. It's actually quite scary. But if you're late AND they duck they get a launch

Well no DEN3’s far more toxic since it’s a homing attack that will still 50/50 you ON BLOCK - Steve still needs to actually land his attacks to get you into his 50/50s, otherwise he can still be punished for hitting your guard
Lars gained a guaranteed 50/50 on block from a jumping homing + on block kick, Steve only gains a mix If he hits you with a -27 no range low that does 20dmg
@@Geheimnis-c2e f22 and ws22 are -6 on block and Steve is launch punishable on block (cant block or avoid df2s), ub2 is +3 on block high, you can jab him out off all LH options, he only gets mix on hit witch basicaly everyone does in this or ANY fg normaly
These aren't buffs so much so they're just bugs that never should've been there in the first place. Steve heat smash or throws are complete 🗑️. Even heera low high and Knee hit them once a month. The 2 and 1+2 from LH are still 🗑️ next to OP powercrush system. LH still can't block and is 🗑️ compared to any other Steve stance peekaboo etc. Steve's Ch launchers are all gone and he's more of a Ch poker still average at it compared to Azucena Feng Dragunov. He got another major nerf due to system changes. His combos are weaker now and his combo Dmg was already pretty nerfed especially when law Lilli feng Dragunov king Jin Victor Reina combos did half health easy. So overall he's still weaker now.
Yknow that’s got me wondering if we had more moves that leads into a screw from Tekken 7 in Tekken 8, the combo potential would be on a different level tbh Steve’s LH 1+2 in this update is just an instance of screw in Tekken 8
Theyre going so far to not give steve a buff on a single counterhit. Steve is a counterhit character hes always been that i dont know why theyre doubling down on making him play like every other mixup character in the game. Maybe its just me but its not fun or dofficult to constantly press either 12 or 1 with occassional 2. Its a dumb change and it doesnt make sense for steve. The animation is also a disgrace from a bocing perspective, i guarantee you if you show that "shuffle" to any boxer or box fan in the world theyre first words would be wtf. The animations from thst stance are aslo definitely not done by an actual boxer

My thoughts, make heat smashes do Less damage across the board or Nerf properties, they break armor, parrys, have infinite range, are homing, Crazy start up and wallsplat/floorbreak for Full combo and also +on block into mix, or are lows that cant be low parried
then its by definition not a 50/50 lol. The level of threat a 50/50 mixup possess should be based on risk/reward ratio, here, Steve's mixup is medium risk/medium reward, if you duck you get knd, otherwise 19 dmg. Sounds like a fair mixup to me, specially considering it usually comes from a very risky low or heat smash.
