What an excellent performance from an excellent group of musicians. And RIP Steve Grossman. A big loss. I used to live in the same house as him in his later days (he lived upstairs, I lived downstairs). He was definitely an interesting person. We didn't get to talk that much, but he was always very friendly and willing to talk music for hours. To be honest, I'd never heard of him before he moved in. But I'm glad he did and I got to hear his music. Funny thing about him is he played with Miles Davis, and his brothers name was also Miles. Go figure.
This a fantastic meeting between two giants of the saxophone. I first heard Peter King many decades ago on Maynard’s records. Mr. King has always had a wonderfully distinctive alto saxophone sound, along with his fantastic melodic ideas and technique.
I love the soft, mellow and gentle approach these gentlemen take to their music. Ideal background music for a nursing home. Move aside John Denver and The Carpenters!
Excelentes los MAESTROS, excelentes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tous sont fantastiques! The sound of Peter King sounded very good! Also his phrasing. Grossman sounds warmer, wider than usual. He usually uses a Selmer Mark VI, but in this show he used Selmer Super Sax (The mouthpiece is one of the two commonly used)I also liked it.
