Hate to nitpick, but Lemmy was kicked out of Hawkwind for speed, not acid. He was caught at the Canadian border, they thought it was cocaine but the speed was legal apparently. Lemmy always said he was kicked out for not doing “the right kind of drugs”.

After Hicks died, and Carlin died, we looked around for someone as sharp, direct, politically savvy and hilarious. And there was Steve Hughes... mate!

As a two time cancer survivor I find the concept of "Lemmy cancer" fucking hilarious! - Only one thing I would add to make it perfect is "at age 70". I'm only in my 40s..

Brilliant, as ever, Steve but I feel the need to correct you on one point. I lived with Terry Ollis and Mick Slattery from Hawkwind during the 60's and the problem they had with Lemmy was that he wasn't an acid 'head'. Speed was his drug of choice (amazing he kept his teeth for so long!) and there was a lot of friction because it didn't influentually gel with the psychedelics taken by the rest of the band.

I saw Steve at Woodford Folk Festival in 2018. I was partying very hard for 4 days before he performed so my cheers were extremely raspy. I let out one final raspy cheer before he started talking and the first he said was, "Fuckin' Lemmy!" Greatest compliment ever, but after laughing your ass off in a big tent for an hour and a half, I had never been so jealous to see someone drink water in front of me. Plus the whole place was packed so I couldn't move at all to get a drink. Two mates of mine snuck backstage after the gig, they got him to sign a Jimi Hendrix t-shirt, which they gave to me as a Christmas present. What a great fucking time!

20 years ago, On Halloween, at Club Lingerie, in Hollywood, I hung-out with Lemmy all evening. I didn't even realize it was him. He was sitting in the seat next to me, at the bar. He didn't look like a person who smiled a lot, so I turned up my "funny." We got to laughing so much, as well as talking about real, more meaningful subjects, that when Halloween wound down, we parted as genuine friends. I was visiting California, and returned home two days later. He'd given me his number, but I lost it. Two days later, my traveling friend was bragging that I was a friend of Lemmy's. I pulled her aside and asked her why was she bullshitting people about me being close with a famous person? She just looked at me like I was an idiot. Wtf! "You hung-out with Lemmy for 6-7 hours at Club Lingerie. What?!!

Steve - really funny. When I was a young musician - 1989 I think - I played the Hippodrome in London. Was there early and walked into the "Star Bar", no one in there but Lemmy sitting on a stool drinking Jack and coke with all the gear on. I was shocked and a little bit worried - I was in pop-dance band playing the sampler and keys with highlighted hair. Lemmy said you on stage tonight and I said yes and he said "Do you want a drink?" and he bought me a lager. We then had a chat for a few minutes, smoked a ciggie and then I left. He was a really decent man, totally the opposite from the image and he was so nice to me. Just thought I'd let you know, hope you see this. Anyway, good luck in Australia if you're there, looks like you are leading the way into fascism right now. I'm sure we won't be far behind though. Cheers mate.
