In a new documentary "Steve Jobs: The Man In The Machine," director Alex Gibney explores the side of Jobs most have never seen. Jeff Bakalar spoke with Gibney ahead of the film's release.
@@richjefferson8434 Exactly. Alexander the great, Caesar, Genghis Khan, Napoleon, George Washington, Henry Ford, Walt Disney, Elon Musk, Michael Jordan, etc., They're all known for being the most ruthless human beings (behind the scenes) in the fields they worked in, and in consequence became the most successful at it.
@@bradday4083 ...don't forget Madonna. She is one of the few women who's ruthless ambition can match the same intensity and fervor as the most ruthless successful MEN of all time.
@@richjefferson8434 only if you count successful + ruthless combinations you’ll get numbers I counted calm personas + successful people like bill gates jack ma...it’s all on how you see or perceive things.
He was essentially the Alexander of the tech world, yeah he embodied ideals of greatness and truly pushed Apple to make greatness but at the cost of many people’s lives… well sanity in this case.
Did he even program or design a single thing on the ipod touch? It sounds like all of the "beauty" was done by someone else and Steve was there cracking a whip and then taking the credit when everyone loved it.
Hahahah! You don’t understand business! It would be impossible for one man to do everything in a business! Well you can buy you won’t make anything very good or a good business? Just stop and think about what you are saying, you will then (hopefully) understand how ludicrous your point is!
Well he was the gatekeeper. He decided what went into the design and what designs got scraped. I doubt Apple would be the same if another CEO was in his place. I can't comment on the "he takes all the credit" part as I have not researched him that much
@@laconchadetumadrehue He didn't even acknowledge Lisa as his daughter even after the paternity tests proved it. He would show people a picture of her tell them that she's not his, but act like some generous benefactor supporting an orphan.
A lot of his frustration came from him seeing the world in a specific way while everyone else was in a box. You have to keep in mind that he essentially created the modern PC interface. Desktops, windows, custom fonts, app store. If there's something you're used to, there's a chance he had to fight for it.
Nope A lot of nice people made much more progress than him It’s a nice thought that it’s like a balance and if you want to make something of value you have to sacrifice something else But that a myth that exists to excuse bad behavior in successful people
@@ussishkingang7194 i agree that being nice helps. But I'm curious as to who these individuals are who have achieved more than Steve Jobs who were not ruthless (behind the scenes/behind closed doors). Can you name a few so I can study them?
@@bradday4083 Stephen Wozniak. He was the true brain of Apple but always remained in the shadow. This didn't bother him because he was introverted and didn't care about fame or becoming rich. He designed Apple's first computer all by himself.

@@supertrooper4353 I know for a fact you won't be remembered. I don't care if he was even a billionaire before becoming the richest man. You're complaining about it when it hardly matters. Hes more successful than you and he's intelligent. Money doesn't make who he is. He still made it to the top. Even if he needed to start from the bottom he still would have made it out there.
Are people really surprised that a startup ceo that grew a company that large had a ruthless side? Softies. You don’t get someone to put their heart into a project by telling them please, please. You influence and persuade them to see your vision & want it as much as you do. These people who criticize these methods will never be able to achieve something to this scale without influence.
Very true. I'm laughing at those people who think the rich and wealthy should pay more taxes, contribute millions to charity for the better good, and be soft-spoken and kind to employees. I think it's very clear that people who criticize millionaires or billionaires are broke, and they do not realize their biggest public enemy from preventing themselves to be rich is their mindset.
@@videocat1366 With black and white logic like that you could justify Stalin too. Sure he murdered millions of people, but hey he was human, he did lots of big, important things and was a strong leader. We all make mistakes!
when u working on your own project u will know what its like to be the owner. we always want thing to be great. we working without days off and spend almost a day for looking on our project. we hired people do the work we used to do. we know that they are better than us but the way they work isn't hard enough, they don't put the heart in the work like we did. i understand its the common thing in most of the companies. they always come and finish the work and go home. let think about it if u are the owner ? i know that they also have their own problems to do and to think about but why cant they just be a better and for 8 or 10 hours ? i have learned a lot from Steve . i know that its a little though for me and everyone if we were working with him but this is what happens when u love what u do.
I assume you own a company or business. Gary Vaynerchuk has a video on this. He mentions that company owners expecting workers to work as hard as them are wrong. Workers don't have a stake on the company. Companies are not loyal to the employee. The best way to make employees better is to increase salary to get good talent and create a better working environment.
@@Miguel-ng5wm I agree with what u said that's why said most companies, but that apply only for medium or big companies for a small or a start-up one that's when we can feel the owner. A bunch of groups and a lot of works.
I have read several books, articles etc. about him and watched documentaries too. If merely 20% of what is claimed about him is true, then he certainly isn´t a person I would have liked to be around. Imagine that his legacy more and more has turned out to be "He was an A hole when he was still alive" compared to "He was legendary for his tech knowledge and business understanding"
I just listen to the audio book, and I had to work for and with evil demons blowing up, and the best you can do is ignore them, do not argue, but if they attack you, then they have made a deadly mistake.
He was a great innvovater..but tat came with a price of him being insensitive and crass to people around him....in his final days he did regret that.. So the lesson is to be great but its of no use if you achieve tat by being ungreatful to people who help u doing tat...u got to be a great innovater and all but...its most important to be a great human being...
@@ryanevertz8455 he had a specific idea of what he wanted and was more in a director role, that's not unusual for managers at his level. The original macintosh had every name and signature in the box itself.
Oh brother. "He has a lot to say for himself in the film and I let him say it." Rubbish. A filmmaker crafts a piece by inclusion and exclusion. They cherrypick quotes and incidents that fit their aim, their own thesis. Steve may have been mercurial, harsh, maybe abusive at times; but there is not need to do exploitive muckraking about him.
I really don´t get it.. There is all this hate coming from non-apple fanboys, its kind of like hating a premium car brand just because it is expensive.. Apple is what it is. Over the last 10yrs they showed us what they can really do and what they can´t and to some extent won´t. It never was the most recent technology, but it doesn´t have to be. You have to look at it as a package where hardware is only 50% of the picture. I used Apple products for video editing and I must say, the way the seemingly dated hardware works with their software is remarkable, BUT in order to unleash the lasts bits of performance you have to stay with Apple's native software. It really just comes down to what you prefer. For some reason, I don't see so much hate coming from Apple owners regarding other platforms.
People don't hate Apple because they position themselves as a premium brand. People hate Apple because of its extensive history and current business practices that are hostile and anti consumer.
