In this video, Steve Keen discusses the Marxist concept of dialectic in a manner which is both more inclusive than the original Marxist presentation of the concept (in which the "background" Keen mentions here only references the labour force or proletariat and the "foreground" only references the business community or bourgeois) and is also simple to understand. In this way, he takes what Marx neglected from Hegel's original version of the concept in terms of widespread practical application, and leaves behind the mysticism implied in Hegel's work. One can also see here the suggestion of Hegel's idea being opened up to use in understanding multiple domains such as labour relations, monetary policy, bureaucratic in-fighting, and more.
