lmao i’m alive. it’s good! it’s been about a year and it’s fascinating to see the progress. i couldn’t agree more with the guy who said starting with these chords was not the best idea. it was a goddamn challenge to put it simply. i had zero hand strength for the barring, no ability to stretch my hands like that, and my strumming was god awful. i really struggled with switching from those chord shapes. after about a month or so my hand strength was much better but the speed at which i played was not. i played sooo slowww just trying to allow my fingers to find the strings. being the first song i learned ever it def took me many months before i had it down. hell, i’d say 6 months or more before i was satisfied and even then there was more room to improve. the upside to starting with song as challenging as this is that learning new chords was much simpler. it’s always going to be a challenge since there’s a lack of muscle memory, but it really helped my ability to stretch my fingers and build the strength to play barre chords. starting with the more difficult stuff is hell when you’re learning, but once you get past it, i think it really pays off and helps out going forward. as of now, approaching the end of february 2021 - about a year later, i’m very satisfied with my playing. strumming is natural, it’s easier to form chords now. still not where i want to be, but nonetheless a wild improvement as compared to the few months i started out. i’ve built a decent vocabulary of chords and mostly just aim to work on improv. i’m just playing, training my hands, finding what chords go well into others, etc. all i can leave the starters with is don’t let yourself give up. don’t let the guitar beat you. it’s gonna be frustrating and you will feel hopeless many many times through the process. your hands are gonna cramp, you’re gonna feel like you’re purposefully trying to break your fingers. at times you may be certain you’re never gonna get there. that one damn string that stays muted when you barre! you’re going to want to verbally assault your guitar. please do, it helps lmao. all jokes aside, when you keep picking up the guitar you’re only going to improve. you’re gonna overcome the challenge, and you will certainly enjoy the feeling of figuring it out. it’s rewarding. very much so. thank you for reading my essay lol

@@SucculentAloeVera thanks for the update! would you say it’s better to start off trying to memorize/learn chords or start by trying to play songs you like. I’m just starting on guitar and I did it the second way on ukulele and I didn’t really get far lol.

if you rest your wrist on or behind the bridge you have to barely use your wrist a little bit of forearm and your fingers will feel more comfortable and do most of the work

He is indeed muting the strings, and strumming rhythmically to the song; in between chords. You mute the strings like he is by forming the chord and touching the strings, NOT pressing on them like you would if you wanted them to ring out. While your fingers are TOUCHING the strings, you just give your best rendition of the rhythm he's strumming at, and PRESS down when the chords ring out. (Also this goes without saying, but make sure your switching chords and playing them on tempo) if this doesnt help then im sorry, its 1:30 in the morning currently, and I have no idea what level of playing your at. nobody in particular im pretty mediocre just having trouble with keeping up with the rythm while muting but thanks for the feedback

@@vexothia8320 No worries. Just take it easy and if its too fast It's easier if you slow down the video to really listen for those mutes. Also watch his hands for those up and down strums. But yeah, if you can play it slow, you can play it fast. That's what my old teacher used to say. something like that at least. Over and out, i guess.

Slow the vid down in settings and see of that helps you pick up the pattern. Focus on the stroke.
