Every time Steve showed up on The Tonight Show it was a masterclass in comedic timing. He absolutely owned the slot, not a minute out of place.

Add all 5 million of his appearances on SNL (pre-political blatant partisanship from SNL) to that comment. Brilliant writing/comedic timing on his quest appearances! Totally agree SM is a master.

What an ingenious and hilarious appearance, and somehow I don't think I've seen this before! For all the accolades Steve Martin has received in his career - he's still underrated. One of the best entertainers of ALL TIME.

As an accomplished musician I have to say that Steve Martin is an outstanding banjo player, the man can flat out pick it. If you've never seen him play I highly recommend looking it up on here and watch the man tear it up.

one of the highlights of my stage hand career was meeting one of my childhood heroes of comedy Steve Martin and learning what a absolutely magnificent banjo player he is I used to consider the banjo just a comedy prop like the ukulele Mr Martin educated me on the magnificence of a well played banjo Steve Martin is not just one of the finest living comedians he is also a master musician.

Back then, if you asked someone who their favorite comedian was, you would most likely hear either Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, or Robin Williams. While I was a fan of all three, Steve was at the top of the list. When he first started, there was no one like him. Johnny was the best at what he did. Unlike most other hosts, he knew when to not interrupt his guests. He trusted Martin enough to just let him do his thing, and smart enough to know where Martin's gags were going, and play the straight man when needed. The only other host that comes anywhere close to Carson, in my opinion, is the UK's Graham Norton.
