Add all 5 million of his appearances on SNL (pre-political blatant partisanship from SNL) to that comment. Brilliant writing/comedic timing on his quest appearances! Totally agree SM is a master.
What an ingenious and hilarious appearance, and somehow I don't think I've seen this before! For all the accolades Steve Martin has received in his career - he's still underrated. One of the best entertainers of ALL TIME.
As an accomplished musician I have to say that Steve Martin is an outstanding banjo player, the man can flat out pick it. If you've never seen him play I highly recommend looking it up on here and watch the man tear it up.
Steve Martin is probably the hardest working comedian in the world. Even on a Tonight Show appearance, he works tirelessly on perfecting his appearance.
That bowling go trophy was the PERFECT choice Martin is brave and a genius Johnny was the greatest late night host of all time I will pray for America. Please pray for me. God Bless you.
one of the highlights of my stage hand career was meeting one of my childhood heroes of comedy Steve Martin and learning what a absolutely magnificent banjo player he is I used to consider the banjo just a comedy prop like the ukulele Mr Martin educated me on the magnificence of a well played banjo Steve Martin is not just one of the finest living comedians he is also a master musician.
Back then, if you asked someone who their favorite comedian was, you would most likely hear either Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, or Robin Williams. While I was a fan of all three, Steve was at the top of the list. When he first started, there was no one like him. Johnny was the best at what he did. Unlike most other hosts, he knew when to not interrupt his guests. He trusted Martin enough to just let him do his thing, and smart enough to know where Martin's gags were going, and play the straight man when needed. The only other host that comes anywhere close to Carson, in my opinion, is the UK's Graham Norton.
He's sitting next to an incredible legion Mr. James Stewart! Imagine what this Old Hollywood heavy weight is thinking while watching this! Would love to hear HIS impressions! lol!
james stewart died July 2, 1997 in Los Angeles, California, USA (cardiac arrest and pulmonary embolism following respiratory problems) lived a long live ! died 16 years after this was aired .
The irony is he never received an Oscar for a movie, but in 2014 was awarded an Honorary Lifetime achievement award from the Governors. And his acceptance speech was funny too, though not like this, and he almost cried a teeny when he got to his wife.
I remember that show, and it reminded me of him in The Jerk which I thought was so friggin hilarious and he was AWESOME! Carson .....CLASS ACT! To bad the late shows now are way to political, not funny and the hosts SUCK! Well, except for Gutfield.
Steve is great, but seriously, anytime Jimmy Stewart is on, you might as well stay in the dressing room and just let Johnny talk about It's a wonderful Life with the one and only.
Colossal creeps Colbert and Kimmel, along with that grotesque freak that follows the ineffectual Fallon on NBC - are among *the most* reprehensibly despicable characters to ever have disgraced the small screen.
The film was a commercial failure, grossing slightly more than $9 million at the box office against a budget of $22 million. Now, that’s embarrassing! Well, excuuuuussssseeeee meeeeee! 😂
