The thing about Steve McQueen is, put him in a cowboy suit, he is a cowboy, put him in a fracking Armani Suit, he is a millionaire and looks the part. John Wayne in a cowboy suit is a cowboy, John Wayne in an Armani, is still a cowboy. Steve McQueen owns every situation, he was truly awesome. He has Charisma, Manliness, Charm, a lot of what is missing from today's men and movie stars

He is like the james bond of his time.

When I was a kid, I was in a movie with Steve McQueen ( jr. Bonner) as an extra. After the scene when the cowboys were drawing which bull they would ride he walked up to me and patted me on the head and said, " How are you doing son"? I'll never forget that.

People who knew him said he was far cooler in real life than ever captured on screen-the real deal. With better directing, letting him do more of his own stunts (he could drive, cycle, fight really well) and toss in steamy sex scene with Bisset, Dunway, McGraw-as Steve was not a bashful man, he would have owned his era. But, he was his own man and 5-6 films he turned down were sure hits for him.
