As a palace fan I’m super proud we have Steve representing us. First and foremost he’s a palace fan so he has the club at the front of his heart, second of all he’s an extremely savvy business man that knows exactly how our clubs needs running! Third and lastly he seems to know exactly what steps our football pyramid needs to progress in the correct direct. Class from Steve providing us ‘fans’ with this beautiful insight 🙌🏽
Absolutely love this series, and what a bloke Steve appears to be. Refreshing to see the owner of a club at any level be as transparent as he is. Just gutted it finished so soon 😂
As a Manchester United fan, it’s extremely refreshing to see an owner who is willing to sit down and talk so openly about life as a club owner and be so transparent. Great interview 🙏🏼☘️
He’s not really though because he wants to be United that’s why he doesn’t want to stop them spending and he knows he will get the crumbs they drop. Watch someone spend 100m on Eze or olise soon that’s why.
@og87 thing is tho Palace have to sell to keep the club going, clubs are not cheap to win, Parish may have alot of money but he isn't loaded like the saudis
Steve has come across very very well in the two pieces he’s appeared in. If you’re a Palace fan you’d feel comfortable whatever decisions are being made.
What a fantastic interview / chat. Really enjoyed watching this, probably more so than anything I have watched or read about football in the past 5 years. Please keep these types of interviews going, they are brilliant. Oh, and Steve Parish is great, loved listening to his views and how balanced he seemed.
@@mattthomas5989 Not sure thats true. There are many forms of intelligence and Gary has been very successful in a number of different fields, sportsman, businessman, analyst and podcaster etc. I think he shows a lot of empathy and social awareness for someone who's been so successful.
@@kc8923it's easy to make money when you're a new businessman millionaire . The risk is far less and failure has no effect on his livelihood. He failed in a few of his businesses which would have sent a normal person bankrupt and out of business. Plus a lot of his business is property, which is the most basic, common, easiest and one of the safest ways for rich people to make money. It's not as if he invented the iPhone or ChatGPT or solved a problem with a novel solution.
I love Steve Parish as the Chairman of my football club, but he also is a football man, and I love that he fights for what is or should be a competitive competition. We don’t want the richest teams to win everything, we want to know that we can beat those teams to give the hope that you can achieve. That’s why even though Brighton are our rivals, I am happy of what they achieved this year and will play in Europe. Because that is what we of the smaller teams want to achieve. That day in the sun
Excellent interview -- I have a lot of respect for Gary Neville, he's done a lot to bring attention to how the Premier League is structured and it's been a long time coming since they did the bad thing in 92 -- massive respect for keeping these topics at the forefront of our collective minds
Never really heard too much in steves thoughts and opinions before, this is incredible. He is a chairman who is pure football. This man in a gem for the league and clearly needs more of a input. Great content and alot of freedom within the discussion.
Steve is absolutely spot on with Gary's silly 'independent regulator' nonsense, you're giving the power to have a say on the biggest league in the biggest sport in the world - to unelected individuals who have their own biases and agendas, can be lobbied to and would ultimately just become as corrupt as the PL, UEFA FIFA.
Gary goes on and on about the gap getting bigger and how we need to keep the league competitive. It's all about working smartly. Luton or Coventry will be in the Prem next season. All 3 promoted clubs have avoided relegation. It's been one of the most competitive seasons for ages.
Was thinking the exact same thing, Brighton in Europe, west ham maybe winning a European competition whilst having an average season, Newcastle in top 4 with the squad they’ve got is crazy too. Everyone just getting bored of city 😂😂
Its not really competitive in the sense of all teams having an equal chance. Spurs and Chelsea in meltdown over not making CL and teams like mine, Forest, delirious after avoiding relegation!
@@ThexMJT as a man city fan I see the premier league as the most competitive league..despite who owner is..we show a big difference in the system.. a manager like pep change the whole dynamic of English football while developing simple players into world class status is magnificent and that allows us winning the league next and probably the season after.. now if we weren't winning any trophies then the whole league and fan base of other clubs would torture us with statement being an oil money club n cant provide good players..still either way we'll always be that club.. And on top of that other clubs have adopted pep style of playing.. now I get what Gary is saying giving what the top clubs have done over the years n it would cool if they could somewhat help out any enemy club like those in championship to get a little boost to fight to join the premier league..that would be a great idea but would it be fair if when they get that boost and other clubs are failing to get promoted?
This has been a really fantastic series. Roy was always going to be a great subject because of his long history in the game, but I've been really impressed by Parrish as well.
I'm not so sure all owners are similar but the amount of tact and level-headedness Steve Parish is speaking with - especially juxtaposed with Gary Neville's seemingly undercooked opinion (speaking when you have to say something, rather than when you have something to say) - gives such a fascinating glimpse into what it takes to sit at the big tables Steve occupies. He bloody well deserves his seat there if he walks half the things he's talked about here. Great interview!
@@Warp75 all football is corrupt. Juve is just hated in Italy, no proof has been released of Juve corruption (even in 2006). you keep believing the news mate. Instead look at barca, city, Everton ect
Another Great Interview. How about scrapping agents fees and making the players fund the agent who is looking out for their bests interests. That would free up a barrel load of dosh to share with the lower leagues.
I'd happily sit in a Prem meeting with owners like Parish.... The great thing about genuinely successful businessman is that they are often very objective... So you can get things done without emotion.... (Gary is a bit more emotional, I could imagine he would be very difficult if he dislikes you for some reason)..
I'd like to have heard more of what Steve had to say in response to the questions. Gary has very clear points of view and they arent wrong, but he interrupted Steve a lot to vocalise them again and again. Think some quite insightful answers and viewpoints were cut off as a result.
A great interview, Gary. You're questions are very insightful whilst always allowing for a full response which is so nice as opposed to almost having a debate. Keep up the great content!
Football needs more like Steve Parish. What city are doing isn't football, it's sportswashing. Same with Newcastle. Many footy supporters that I know, have FAR more respect for Palace (& Brentford, Brighton etc) than they do for city.
what a fantastic interview. i hope the content creators that orbit the Premier League take a very careful look at this, and try their best to bring content to their creation. 👑⚽️
I like the overlap but in this Gary constantly interrupted before Steve could finish his point. I know Gary’s point and as a L2 fan I totally get it. However it would have been a much better interview had we been allowed to hear Steve points and insights in full, and then Gary challenge it, rather than constantly cut him off to push his own point of view.
As compelling as it was refreshing. A genuine football club owner. Who's next? I guess the ones we really want to hear from are otherwise occupied at the shredder.
There should be a levy on the transfer market and wages, where the money trickles down to the lower leagues. On the flip side, academy output should be incentivised.
How was he out of his depth? He's interviewing the bloke looking for an insight from a premier league owner. He's not trying to trip the bloke up like a Paxman
Interesting and articulate chap, Steve. That said, it did feel like he was struggling not to speak at cross purposes with Gary, who seemed wilfully to be misunderstanding or going on tangents.
If they want more money to filter down the league, why don’t they tell the teams that 20 players of their 25 man squad must be British, and 15 must be English. They’ll have to dip into the domestic leagues for players. Then add a wage cap on all players and a transfer levy on foreign transfers.
I think Gary needs to talk a little less in these, I normally enjoy them but when he starts giving his view on how to improve the league and distribute wealth in a better way, he gets a bit lost in his explanations and its also something you hear a couple of times at least each interview so for the viewer, it gets a bit tired
Don’t think it’s unfair to say that when they talk about the ‘EFL’, they mean the Championship more often than not. Which is just creating another problem whereby the Championship begins to mirror the PL and the rest of football carries on with the same issues.
I hope that Steve's voting record matches his claimed stance. If football does not recapture the competitive nature that it once (in theory) had I fear I'll fall out of love with the sport, particularly at the higher levels. The last thing we need is a franchise model of the game, and we are already dangerously close to that. Also, that whole discussion about the solution being to take more from the bigger clubs was spot on. It's nonsense to suggest is can't be done. This was like the top 10% claiming that they couldn't be taxed more. A very inconvenient truth the bigger clubs pretend is impossible. If you want dodgy owners out, this may be the way to go. I'm glad Gary pushed Steve back a little on this nonsense.
I feel like us as a country are responsible for the mess that football is in, its ironic that gary who works for sky, is calling for all these things to be put in place, but sky in my opnion has ruined footabll with the amount of money theyve put in couple that with the way the fa run things. No wonder they wanted the super league the premier out spends every other league by mile. Thats the problem the money we've put through sky and other broadcasting companies has caused all these problems we're talking about. Football isnt the common mans game more and thats the problem, its a toy for the rich the make money and milk it dry.
So while the not state owned clubs in the top 7 have to pass over money etc the state owned clubs can still pull away so it don't solve the problem it just helps those state owned clubs pull away even more
Steve Parish wants his feet on both boat, speaks like any useless Politician- neither here nor there. One thing for sure, he is good in manipulating the media and getting into good books. Gary Neville speaks from the heart and has conviction.
Think vids like this and sportspeople we don't hear much of in main stream media are more interesting than the questions with sports people who are in the limelight
great clubs like steau bucharest, borussia monchengladbach and porto have won the champions league in the last 50 years. that seems almost impossible at this point
Gary just doesn't want the super league because his Salford football club won't be init. He is totally against FFP so him and his mates out spend everyone in their league every season till they get to the premier league. This guy has his own intrest and agenda
Premier League and Sky have taken the top English division to a ridiculous level but at a cost. Ever since Abramovich took over Chelsea with his dubious Russian money the greed, self interest and lack of any moral compass seems to have got exponentially worse.
Very interesting interview , the trouble is no one likes to give money , no one likes to lose a market share , for decades this has happened and will continue with little change , the issue of state owners buying clubs cant be argued as if our own goverment might officially talking about other countrys rulles treatment of people breaking laws is wrong but yet conducting multi Billions pounds of Trade for our benefit....whats right for the goose is good enough for the gander ? UEFA are the same , Madrid has many times been bailed out by the Goverment, do we have a rule that says a club can only be owned by a British Citizen? that would be a catastrope , football Im sure will evolve and we will be jumping through hoops for America and others next. So yes many good points in the interview but
Why doesn’t every club in the English pyramid , Play 1 game every season randomly selected fixture and all match day profits go into the pyramid fund ? By doing this fans are creating the money to benefit every league just like a charity game ! Each season the home fixture then becomes the away fixture the following season and so on We would be taking control in supporting our own pyramid
Because that would be just peanuts, really. TV money must be in excess of 90 per cent of PL clubs' revenue nowadays. Taking a fraction out of the rest wouldn't go anywhere. It would be a fair way of collecting the money, perhaps, but wouldn't generate the 300 or so million these guys were talking about.
