Brilliant interview from Steve, seems to really understand his role within the club. Wish him all the best and hoping to see Crystal Palace go from strength to strength.
Crystal Palace appear (from the outside) to be a very well run club, for a club, whose EPL status will always be perilous due to resources. When & if they win something it will mean so much more. This is genuinely the most authentic & respectful media piece on a club I've ever seen. Far better than anything on BBC, BT or Sky.
@@JR-ev6yn This is true, Brighton had an epic season.. Would be decent to have a couple of lower league managers to be involved too but understand its about numbers. I personally watch them all. I find them all interesting regardless
What a fantastic behind the scenes look at a great club. Happy to see Roy still enjoying the game as well. Can listen to him talk about football all day.
I thought that was a fantastic insight from owner to manager on Crystal Palace. Truly refreshing to see a club Owner come out and talk about past present and future 💯
As a relatively young football watcher, I always thought Roy of an antique from all the mockery and 442oons jokes i see on the internet. Im loss for words for the intelligence hes shown in this interview. He's like walking "experience" Really appreciate the Overlap team for showing us younger fans what a respectable elderly Manager brings to a club. Definitely a breath of fresh air from all the Jose, Klopp and Pep idolizing from the past few years.
Go read up on his CV if you haven’t, one of the few talented English coaches. He even travelled Europe (rare for an Englishman) and has undoubtedly learnt plenty. What you should be shocked at, is how he’s still very very sharp
Good of you to admit that and I'm pleased this has shown you the 'real' Roy. So many fans just follow the usual narratives and cliches in football, unfortunately.
Roy is a true gentleman of the game. You can see that the palace players would run through walls for him. He does it all with screaming, shouting and bouncing up and down on the sidelines.
As a Fulham fan, Roy Hodgson was the best manager we ever had from the great escape to a europa league final including battering juve 4-1 on the way. Hes incredible and fully deserves legendary status of the english game! I love that he also seems to lead with kindness when coaching his players. Excited for Roys homecoming this saturday against palace at the cottage. I would love if fulham and palace fans could sing a song for Roy together!
What a fantastic episode, I cannot praise this show enough. Best content on RU-vid hands down, thanks to Gary and the team at the Overlap for all their hard work with these!
When Roy spoke about offensive structure I think that was Vieiras biggest mistake . He relied too much on individuals like Zaha olise and we never really looked to have much structure in attack, which led to many games without shots
These interviews are always amazing. Strange side note i always play these in the bedroom to relax before falling asleep. Great guests always on here. The Overlap in general is my favorite channel on youtube. Hope we will still see some new content diring the summer break.
I fluffin love woy!! Up most respect for that man !! He reminds me so much of my grandad . I think I could talk to him for hours, days even . Good luck to him and CP fantastic job they have done as a club
Fascinating interviews, great insight into the world of club ownership and coaching side. Full of respect for Roy Hodgson, what a career he's had, 76 and still loving it.
This is brilliant .... as an American , a look into CPs owner Steve and his mindset is amazing, honestly..... and Mr. Roy Hodgson.... I mean .... other than SAF, can it get any better??? Absolutely made my Tuesday evening, Gary , Steve , and Mr. Hodgson. Brilliant. 💥💥💥
LOVE this. Excellent insights and more of Roy. He has so much to offer. It's great insights into a club. One with Chelsea and Spurs would be so class!! And then City with Tixi & Pep etc, then into their academy, would be such class insights!! We NEED more of this!
One of the best footballing interviews I've seen. You find out so much about the running of a football club, understanding how roy thinks about the game and how he approaches different parts. All brilliant!
Brilliant interview, great to open the hood and look at the parts that make up a premier league club. Appreciate the candour from owner and new respect for Roy Hodgson, we so often treat our elders with disrespect, when they have so much to offer.
A wonderful interview on both accounts owner and Roy Hodgeson The incite into football was great from the owner and manager really good and interesting interview.
Great interview! One of my favourites! Great to see the owner as it’s quite rare they’ll do interviews like this. Would love to here from Tony Bloom and Brighton.
We need more inside like this with other clubs great to see what going on at Palace it looks like they are doing a good job with the training ground if the get there stadium like this and there team looking good with a manager to take them to the next level they will be hitting like a Brentford or a Fulham
Refreshingly honest interviews from both and shows how much pre and after game interviews are coached love tha training facility and wonder if roy may stay
Excellent open interviews and really nice to see some behind the scenes. Drive to survive the formula one documentary has been excellent over many seasons and I am told has helped grow the sport. I wonder how realistic it would be to get a premier league version. Perhaps sky and Gary could create that. It would make a great series. Look at what Wrexham managed with theirs
I had him down as some sort of Rylan-esque, suit, trainers and white tee type of guy. How wrong was I. Seriously impressive man. Brilliant, candid interview. Congrats on the good work both.
Best ever episode Gary, brilliant insights into how to run a football club. Why not do some more episodes with equally open owners and managers down the divisions to produce some different perspectives? Agree that technically and physically the English game is at an all time high... how about taking a look at the academy system by way of explanation?
Always had respect for Steve Parish, and I was quite surprised at him for when he decided to sack Vieira, but boy, he has proven me wrong there. A real football owner that cares.
Great show Gary! I have always wanted to go see a PL match but never thought I would have the chance. We finally were able to go last year, 2022. At Selhurst against City, 0-0 draw. It was amazing! Great fans, great atmosphere! My whole family are Crystal Palace fans now!
A highly interesting insight into how the Eagles are so well run by the owner, with superb facilities and how misunderstood and taunted Roy's been over the many years he's a old school manager with clear morals and man management as a Liverpool fan Hodgson YNWA!
Roy is a great manager for clubs with small ambitions, just survival. Crystal Palace has had some ballers over the years and I feel they needed more time with Vieira to grow into a top 6 contender.
He's right, East/SE London does seem to produce a lot of good players. More like this please, maybe visit some of the really good Championship clubs too.
As a Brighton fan I should in theory hate this video. However, Palace has very much been at the same financial level as Brighton, with similar challenges, so I can only respect how the club is run. And Roy is a wonderful, humble manager and, more importantly, an extremely decent person.
Top bloke Steve Parish. Met him at motorsport events a couple of times when he raced in the Porsche Super Cup. Down to earth bloke and his passion for his club comes across here.
Get Steve Parish down to Fratton Park to tell our Pompey Fans that for long term success you need to improve the infrastructure and to stop moaning and get behind the team. Our Owners currently are improving infrastructure but fans keep moaning about on field results. Parish seems like a quality chairman and hugely honest. Love this
cant say i remember hearing roy talk about tactics like that before, usually skirts those questions for whatever reason. clearly a much more astute manager than he gets credit for sometimes
