After watching compete from afar for all of these years, I met Steve at High Sierra for the first time this year. He is an amazingly humble, knowledgeable, and genuinely talented individual and his airplanes are leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. If anyone is on the fence about building a Highlander, do it. And, get your kit from Steve as he really does support what he sells and his parts and know-how are second to none.
I’ve been saying spoilers spoilers for the last couple of years. I had them on my ultralight 30 years ago and they were really helpful for short field landings. So glad to see Steve is using them. Airplane people are the best!
That event looks so awesome! Congrats to Steve for winning and Lukasz for second place. Did Ty Ferkin put floats on his plane just for his beers? He's a legend!
Steve, you are an inspiration to so many. Thank you for demonstrating what following your dreams looks like! The spoiler fix may be to interlock them with the throttle. Full throttle releases the spoiler lever up-lock.
@SaraHenry Love, love, love this video! Thank you for your beautiful work and memorializing HSF23. Congratulations Steve on your World Championship runs! It was nice to see you both taking YeeHaw out in her natural backcountry environment 🔥 Wow!
Sarah you are so good at your story flow. What a great edit. It really feels like what I remember of the weekend the way you put the video together. Anyone watching that hasn’t made High Sierra, can just watch your video At least they’ll get a feel of how cool it was there. Love it. Love it.
The power that plane your dad built is wild! My family and I live down the street from the nampa air port. Didn't know your family was out of there. Cool stuff! The restaurant at the air port is pretty good
You do such a great job on your videos. I was there on Saturday and I think I saw more in your video than I did while I was there lol. HSF is such a great event. Looking forward to the next one 👍🏼
Steve, I knew that you will be the first using spoilers. You're just so straight forward. Same with the tires and the forward shifted main gears. Damn I'd so damn like to be a passenger one time. Next stop: prearmed spoilers. 😂❤
Mr. Henry, I wish I had 1% of your skill! I started flying quite late in life and I’m in my mid 60’s now, I hope I have enough time to get 5% as good as you😀 Cheers from Down Under!
Nice video; congrats, Steve! That looks like a hoot! Also got a kick out of your sardines for dinner; that's one of my favorite "go-to" meals when I can't figure what to have for dinner!
Beautifully captured Sara. Well done to Steve. I think you made all us viewers feel like we were there too. By the way, who owns the Red Bull Carbon cub? I secretly hope they gave it to Lukasz after Dubai. He flies it to perfection.
Alright now you have my attention. I am a sailor. I am currently working on modification for my canoe so I can access wilderness camping in Canada. I love wind and water. Construction: framing, insulation, HVAC stuff, shelter design. Those ALONE series in remote places. What is REAL on You Tube. Not the "jumpers" can't handle that in whatever form. Even those "wind surfers" ~ NAHHH. But here, There is LOGIC and accessibility here. Thank you. OOPS And then there is the Suzuki V Strom 800 DE. Oh yea. And so. A very cool post here. Thank you. ~ You have my attention. ✨🌸🌟🌸✨
Steve- great video. I'm not a pilot, I'm a machinist and fabricator, so i sometimes think really weird thoughts....the spoilers. Could you add an indicator light on your panel so you don't forget they are deployed? Also, when you use them, if you always deploy them full on, maybe use a solenoid type actuator and add the switch to your stick?
would love to make it to one of the HSF someday but being from the east coast it is a bit of a hike. just got my own plane (cherokee 140/160) so maybe I will make the trek out there one of these years.
Steve- What do your spoilers do to your plane’s stall speed? Do you need to approach & touch down at a faster air speed when spoilers are deployed to make sure you don’t stall aloft?
Yes, the spoilers definitely increase the stall speed. I have to land faster when they are deployed but that’s OK when doing Stoldrag. I would never use them if I was trying to actually land slow and short.
*_Spoiler light. Lights up and blinks and make it a printed light that says SPOILERS and make it a red light so it blinks until you take spoilers off._* 🛩
It's funny because as I was watching all of you race I told my buddy "I wonder why none of them don't run spoilers too." I guess it's true that there's no such thing as an original idea lol
Because Steve's prop is at an angle pointing up when he launches does that give him an advantage in STOL? Not sure what the technical name is for the angle of the prop when the plane is on land.
I‘m new to the channel so I haven’t gotten shit sorted out yet. Started with me thinking ”Well he‘s considerably older but I kinda figure out why women might be attracted to him….!“ AND HOW CAN ONE SIT IN A CAMPER WHEN YOU GOT A FIRE RIGHT OUTSIDE???
