Steve Vai played with Frank Zappa, his album credits typically would say...Steve Vai - Stunt Guitar. I loved Steves album Flexible. His version of Christmas Time Is Here...absolutely beautiful.

The master of the space age guitar. Always loved the Coral Guitar (sitar) in the back. Btw, that whole album is amazing - all instrumentals. And he's an amazing composer too. he WRITES his own music, and transcribed for Frank Zappa as well.

If you liked that I highly suggest the live version with the orchestra. He wrote all the parts out (by hand) as well as chose the musicians that could play it alongside him.

There's so many more... Marty Friedman, Hizaki, Tony Macalpine, Jeff Loomis, Eric Gales, Allan Holdsworth, Nick Johnston, Guthrie Govan, Takayoshi Ohmura, John 5, Justin Johnson, Tommy Emmanuel ... I could list guitarists for days. All with their own unique voice and appeal. There's such an enormous wellspring of music and sounds to draw from.

Steve was blessed, he was pretty good self taught, found a paper on a pole of guy giving lessons, it was Joe Satriani, Got a job with Frank Zappa, first as a transcriber then co-lead guitarist, then on to Whitesnake and David Lee Roth, then he felt confidant enough to go solo. I'm sure after covid he'll be on the road, mostly solo, occasionally with Dweezil Zappa doing his dad's hits.

If you aren't already familiar with them, you should react to Snarky Puppy "Lingus" from We Like It Here. Virtuoso bomb. And it's a live performance. Drummer learned the set on the flight from the US to Holland.

Absolutely positive more people will bring this up, but I will never miss an opportunity to call Joe Satriani out for being Steve Vai's guitar teacher back in the day when they were young. I love them both even if Joe is my all-time favorite, but it's impossible to deny that Steve Vai has made his mark on the guitar. As a musician, songwriter, and master of the instrument. I wore my copy of Passion & Warfare OUT when I was in high school. He's been an inspiration to myself and many others for decades.

Tender Surrender should be your next Steve Vai recording to hear. Preferably the studio version. His live stuff is amazing but generally a tad over showy. The studio version is where he is concentrated just on the music and not the "show". Later you should definitely also check these songs live.

Yay! Steve Vai! He made some cheesy 80s videos off this album. The Audience is Listening and I Would Love To. Fun to watch and the music is great. I hope you’ll give a listen to Tony MacAlpine, another amazing G3 guitarist. He is also an accomplished pianist and usually includes a classical piece on his albums. Here’s the 2 of them together m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UPCHVTam_U4.html
