Steve Vai invited Randy to celebrate Jimi Hendrix´80th birthday at The Moore Theater in Seattle on November 27th. Great performance. thanks for the edit to Arthur at singular vision.
Agreed.Saw SRV 3 times, even at the gorge in George 2 weeks before he died. Randy is God.....and I'm 65, play Jimi and was born in Seattle in 1958. Ps what happened to Scott and Liquid Rainbow? Last I saw him ,I bought some chronic hdro Afghanistan in magnolia back in 1987?
I agree, he’s performed and played Jimi’s music and also style better than anyone else. I suppose he is fairly well recognised for that. And yeah he deserves a Jimi Hendrix Logie type of award.
WRONG...... there ought, not be a lifetime achievement award. Only two ppl qualify for that. SRV or Robin Trower had the vibe. This guy doesn't. Anyone that would praise this guy does not know all of Jimi's catalog.
I've heard him say that he keeps a bassist and a drummer in Germany because he's got a legion of listeners in Europe; and he has, depending on their more steady careers, several drummers and bassists here in the States for the same reason. I remember seeing him in 1979 in Natasha's Pavilion in Bremerton, WA (an hour long ferry boat ride from Seattle) when he was releasing "Champagne And Cocaine." That album still smokes like the Marlboro Man. I have to say "Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush - Live" was second only, in terms of success, to Robin Trower in those times. In terms of holding string and true to the Jimi vibe genre - Randy held the fckn torch high.
Man, Randy seriously transformed into Jimi!! I mean, I know he is a Jimi tribute guitarist, but that was amazing!!!! I loved the Happy Birthday Jimi on the back of Randy's guitar. No doubt an important night for him and all Jimi fans everywhere. 80 years old. WOW. Jimi will always be frozen in youthful time.
Also gotta give Steve credit for bringing Randy out and letting him let loose- it's a testament to Steve's generosity and heart that he would do this- with his large following it's nice to see him bring an artist like this out and give exposure to his fans- Randy's been around for quite a while- well before Steve was a name even in Zappa's band- gotta love Steve for showing him off and showing his fans another fine talent.
I saw Randy play some 15 years ago and it was an one of the best shows I've ever been to. The best live renditions of all Jimi's songs you will ever experience. And when he starts singing you;ll be in f or a real surprise!!!
Saw Randy Hansen in Perth in 2016-he was brilliant. Unfortunately Jimi never toured Australia but Randy gave us an idea of what we missed. Hope he returns someday.
When I first heard Randy Hansen and saw a video of him I thought it was a lost video of Jimi Hendrix until there was a close up I was so spooked and speechless it was almost as if he was channeling Jimmy through him there is no better Jimi Hendrix imitator then Randy Hansen. As a guitarist myself I'm 62 years old now I started when I was 14 and I have studied Hendrix up until this day and I can tell you with 1,000% confidence you have to see this man make it your bucket list he will blow your freaking mind.
That's what I like about Steve Vai, he loves guitar so much that he doesn't feel threatened by bringing other great players on stage.. And this was old Randy.. Randy 10 or 20 years ago was a serious problem ! Still one of thee most underrated guitarist around !
I saw Randy in a small club in Seattle in 94' and the dude killed it. Had a short conversation with him before the show and he was super cool. After the show I felt like I experienced a Hendrix concert.
Where is the LOVE button?! I saw Randy Hansen's Machine Gun back in the late 70s and it is still one of the best live shows I've seen! These 2 together is just icing on the cake!
I experienced Randy long ago in Hawaii,.this amazing, dedicated man with his profound respect for Jimi deserves much honor and recognition. Playing with Vai is just a start. Thank Randy..fly on ..fly on man. 🙏✌️♥️🇺🇸
Actually one of my favorite Jimi wailing guitar studio songs. Cool job. Saw Randy do a show of Hendrix, well actually saw many He’s the best at it. The Tower theater show was AMAZING! THANKS RANDY!!!
Hansen is beyond amazing. He opened for Heart in the 70s if anyone remembers and literally shocked the audience and Heart itself. I remember seeing Nancy Wilson shaking her head thinking there is no way to follow this. Eddie Van Halen was well aware of Hansen in the 70s but never let anyone else know because Randy overshadowed anyone else with his Hendrix show as a guitar player. Eddie actually looked kind of goofy after you had seen Hansen.
Randy got to meet Eddie, I think it was after a Van Halen concert in Seattle for a party for Van Halen after Van Halens first album came out. Randy said Eddie was a cool guy and very humble. I think they both admired each other. Both are very top notch guitar players.
Ed liked Hendrix but has often stated never was a big fan. No idea why u have the theory he would have felt threatened by a clone of someone. He was never a threat to Ed in anyway who had a much different, more original thing going.
@@justingibson508 They all deny ever being influenced by Hendrix Which makes them look a little goofy since all stole the his use of fifths, dive bombing, lead solo melodies within chord structures, and feedback harmonic techniques. Jimi was the first do this.
@@Zulumann25 "They all deny" lol. Who the countless guitarists and rock stars who praise Jimi? Next time before u type , write it out on paper, read it a few times, maybe show it to a cpl friends who will hopefully let u know ur retarded before hitting send.
WOW! I saw Randy Hansen do his Hendrix tribute in this very same theater, back in 1978! The show started with the lights down low and a thick fog covering the stage. Then this guitar starts playing with some fast hammer ons, as "Jimi" slowly rises up from the grave. Then leaps up out of the mist and starts burning with Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire! JIMI!!
Randy is one bad Mo Fo! The only guy on the planet that can Upstage Steve Vai on a Hendrix song. If this would have been a Head Cutting contest, Steve would be bleeding.
Wow, very interesting. The few clios I’ve seen of Randy, it’s always been entertaining but what really surprised me is how dialed in the guitar tones are here. This reminded me of an Yngwie interview from the late 80’s where he said he liked Vai and how he admired his abilities but thought his guitar sound was muddy. I guess most humbucker guitars would sound muddy next to a Strat but I could barely hear Vai here and Hansen really cut through. Very cool performance from the whole band. Thanks for the post!
I was going to post nearly the same thing- it's crazy how good a Marshall Plexi and 4x12 with a Strat will cut through the mix so well. Yngwie's G3 performance in Denver highlights that so well too- just phenomenal tone when a Strat is in a Marshall. When Yngwie played notes from backstage- he CRUSHED Joe and Steve's tone- not to slight them- they're savage players- but that tone that Yngwie had is very much like what Randy get's here. Just glorious and cuts through the mix SOOOOO well...
@@jahjah67 It's a 100 watt JMP Super Lead- so maybe not a "plexi" but come on- same basic circuit- you can see it up close here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a5EpEdCV7tI.html. Depends on what you consider a "Plexi" since Marshall never called them that- it's post 69 so probably not a plexiglass front panel- you're probably insisting all "plexi" amps are JTM45 or SuperLeads from 1969- It's definitely not a 80's JCM- he's not touring with anything in 2022 like that at all.
You guys rock. Keep doing that ^^ Was a nice show yesterday in Augsburg. Nice talking to you guys! Will surely be back when ever the location allows it. Also nice talking to you all 3 and what an honor to meet Randy in person and have a chat with him! What an experience indeed.
You know those albums that came out after his death are really good Crash Landing , Midnight Lightning , War Heroes , The Cry Of Love , Loose Ends , Nine To The Universe and In The Beginning theses all came out in the 70s you all should give them a listen to my favorite is nine to the universe 🟤
...saw Randy Hansen way, way back in the day in an old movie theater in San Jose Ca..... Must have been 1979, or 80 maybe. Me and my friends didn't know what to expect but it was absolutely the best show I've ever seen. (and I've been to ALOT) He was running up and down the aisles, between seats, people were hitting his strings, the whole she-bang.
I remember pumping gas at 7-11 about 18 years ago in Skyway Washington on the way to band practice. I Had zero idea at the time what Randy Hansen looked like..but, I see this random dude pumping gas next to me and asked if he was Randy Hansen and he said yes. Had a short conversation. One of the coolest dudes ever met in my life. And a fellow guitar player...He wasn't dressed up or frilled out or anything but, I just felt like he may be Randy Hansen and was...
In that very spot where Randy is standing and performing here in Seattle's Paramount Theater I've seen Brian May, Randy Rhoads, Rick Nielsen, Jeff Beck, Buck Dharma, Kurt Cobain, Mark Lanegan, Rick Derringer, Joe Perry, Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Freddie Mercury, Yngwie Malmsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Winter... And as soon as I add this to the comment thread more ... Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas...! More great musicians I've seen in the Paramount Theater will come to mind... Deep Purple, Joe Satriani, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, Steve Vai, Steve Earle, Steve Morse/Dixie Dregs, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. but Queen opening for Kansas was the first show I ever saw there. It's two days before Christmas and freezing here in Seattle right now. Everybody be safe. Let's be better and kinder to one another. Mark Lanegan, my friend, I miss you. Rest In Peace.
Sometime in the early 80s, we heard Hansen, Mitch Mitchell and Fernando Saunders play a club in DC. Played the whole 1983 Moon Turn the Tides sequence live.
I love that he plays a lefty Stratocaster as a right hander. Hendrix of course did the opposite playing an upside down right handed Stratocaster as a lefty guitarist. Attention to detail!!😂
Hey Arthur - thanks for the edit. It´s good to see it from different angles. I hope we´ll meet next time, when i am in Seattle. Best regards from Germania.
I used to think he was just a hopeless copycat without any real inspiration...I was WRONG !!! Not only is he an amazing guitar player but he channels Hendrix's mind ( for lack of a better word ) admirably... He's the closest thing to Hendrix himself and sometimes it's almost... Uncanny... And besides if he wasn't so talented people would have forgotten about him s long time ago...
Last Wednesday afternoon, Randy cooked me a fantastic roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans dinner in his home. As strange as this may sound; it is the Honor Bright truth.
have you never heard eric johnson do hendrix? its pretty incredible to see eric do hendrix songs because you can tell like randy he’s a fan and loves the music im not saying eric is better than randy but i do think those are two guys who jimi very well
