I was 18 years old when this song was on the country music charts in April of 1987. I turned 19 that August. This song takes me back my teen years whenever I hear it. My Dad was also a big country music fan. He passed away last year after a long illness, and my Mom and I miss him so much! So does everyone else who knew him and love him. My Mom likes country music too, the kind of country from back when she was a kid, and some of the country from back when I was growing up. Her favorite group is The Sons of the Pioneers. My Dad liked Eddy Arnold, Hank Williams, and Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. We all love George Strait, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, Steve Wariner., and countless others. In my opinion, 80's and 90's country music is the best. With the exception of a few artists, like Blake Shelton, today's country music is garbage. It's a shame that this genre of music doesn't have the kind of charm that 80's and 90's country has.
I met my husband online in 2016, he drove from North Carolina to my home in Georgia we had an amazing weekend, lots of intimacy and the drive in movies and I wasn't to sure being I just left a 19 year marriage he went home on that Monday morning, a day later he sent me this song and told me he listened to it all way home crying. I had no idea I could be wanted that way. Well 2 weeks later he moved in and we had 6.5 amazing years until he passed away of a massive heart attack in March 2022, this song has so much meaning. I miss you Kenneth Lee. 😢
Great song, I remember as a kid listening to the country radio station and hearing nothing but great stuff like this - today I don't listen to the radio at all, only CD's - what have these idiots done to my Country music.
I remember dancing with a beautiful woman at a Honky Tonk in Texas while Steve Played this live. 20 years ago. And i remember every second , of that moment.
+George Pilzer Glad you have developed an appreciation for this wonderful era of country music. The 70s and 80s were great times for country. There are a few country artists today but for the most part it all sounds (and looks) the same. In this age of music videos the emphasis is hot female artists & hunky males. The sound is so computerized there is no originality. I grew up listening to Glen Campbell, Charley Pride, The Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, Conway Twitty, Barbara Mandrell, etc. Of course radio has changed perhaps even more. Today new artists rarely get any airtime (unless a label is pushing a new "hot" artist, largely based on a music video). Most small town stations use an automated service or satellite service, with no local announcers. And even the larger market stations are being consolidated with a few major owners dominating the market, and deciding who gets airplay. And many large stations are dropping music altogether (because of the cost of maintaining on-air talent, benefits) & going to news\talk, all sports, etc. It's sad really. I got out of radio a long time ago. I did venture in to sales as well as doing some high school sports. It was fun but a tough way to make a living. Good luck and thanks for your interest. I have noticed on You Tube many young people who have discovered 70s & 80s pop/rock and have commented how much better it is than the garbage today.
Heard this song this morning and reminded me of THE WEEKEND my husband and I met 4 years ago. We knew right away it would not be only a weekend. You know when you know. Can't wait to show him the video tonight.

Steve Wariner and Dan Seals have the most beautiful music. Just like everyone on this thread, this song brings tears every time and we all have that one special memory we just can't let go of.
I completely forgot about this gem until a few months ago. Now that I'm older, and hopefully more wise, I realize it goes from a nice song to an "all time classic" in my book. I think I'll buy it (I try to support the good ones).
This always was a favorite. I think the story has happened to all of us at sometime. I took a woman I really liked to the Keys. Everything went perfect, and my little fantasy came through. Then Monday, it was like “Well, thank you. I had a good time. Maybe we’ll get a drink sometime.” I still cherish that weekend though.

As a rule, I am really not into country music at all, but I have to admit, this is in my top twenty songs ever. Beautiful song, beautifully sung and with a truly wonderful tune to boot. Big respect to Steve.
One of the best country songs of the 80s. There are so many that had crushes that went nowhere. Or those that came close to being with someone, only to watch them slip away. Some never get over it.
Actually, this song came out in 1986 or 1987. I was in the crowd in the concert video. The concert (actually a weekend festival) was in 1987, and was called "Country Scene" and was sponsored by the City of Los Angeles. Dozens of up and coming artists performed there, along with a few already well known ones. Dwight Yoakam, Randy Travis, and Patty Loveless were a few of the up and coming artists at the time.
