I went to see Steve Winwood and the Doobie Brothers in early August 2024 at Jiffy Lube Live, the music pavilion in Bristow, Virginia. While I've seen the Doobie Brothers many times over the last few decades, I never had the great experience of getting to see Steve Winwood in a concert. The music he created across multiple groups and as a solo artist is timeless -- from Can't Find My Way Home with Blind Faith to Dear Mr. Fantasy and so many more with Traffic to When You See a Chance, Roll with It and Back in the High Life as a solo artist. Oh wait, how about I'm a Man and Gimme Some Loving with the Spencer Davis Group. This video, shot with my Samsung Galaxy phone camera, compiles a few high points, snippets from a few songs. Anyone who plays guitar surely gets a lump in the throat when he works his way through Dear Mr. Fantasy -- I sure did. This is just a 7-minute taste of how great this show was and how fortunate I was to finally get to see him. I also think it's really cool that his talented and beautiful daughter Lily is on the tour with with, helping with vocals and more. If you get a chance to see this tour, do it. As we just saw with Aerosmith, you never know when a road trip might be the last one. Thanks Steve Winwood for nearly 60 years of incredible music.
