I appreciate what you're saying about appreciation of the music. It's taken me a LONG time, but I now appreciate the Plastic Ono Band. I'm not adding it to a play list - but I "get" it, and appreciate it! Keep on keepin' on!
Jamel: Here is a 2020 socially distance Steve Winwood- still Rocking out Gimme Some Lovin....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rpkqTLR3OD8.html
For some of us more "senior" watchers - Back when this song first came out, one of the Philly DJs referred to Steve Winwood as the "illegitimate son of Sam and Dave!" Ha-ha!
Glad your next line was and Dave. Son of Sam got a bad vibe huh? Just kidding how ya getting on with these golden years? Senior 1 egg instead of 2 and 2 strips of bacon instead of 3 yeah that's a senior discount you bet. Have a wonderful day hang in there we aren't dead or senile yet and I've got the papers to prove it. Haha
One of my favorite tunes! Jamel, you are great man! So much fun to see you reacting to these tunes. Reminds me of when i went off to school and my buds taught me about Steely Dan and Led Zeppelin. And I taught them about Average White Band and New Orleans music. Keep em coming! Here's a few to consider. The Meters (aka The Neville Brothers) album: Rejuvenation song: People Say (New Orleans funk) song: Hey Pocky Way (New Orleans dancin in the street music) Jeff Beck album: blow by blow song: Cause we've ended as lovers (you GOT to hear this!) All Led Zeppelin is good, but do album: houses of the holy song: The Crunge (Led Zep tribute to James Brown) All Steely Dan is good, but do album: The Nightfly song: IGY album: katy lied song: Chain Lightning Love ya man!! Peace! Elliot
they actually may just come back with back in the High Life they put it back on the charts with a bunch of great songs like higher Love Freedom over spill the title track. then he continued on going down with roll with it
@@courtnayzeitler4854 well at the time it was sort of a comeback form cuz you know after traffic he had those into the early 80s with Valerie ark of a diver but then he kind of faded out for a little bit off of the pop scene he was doing some more traffic stuff and more jamming.. but then he came back with back in the High Life and then he was on top again for quite a while selling away it was sort of a comeback for him onto the charts I guess you could say
At 70 years old I still roll with this. I play along with my Fender 70's Jazz Bass when the feeling hits me. If you can't roll with this you ain't among the living. Thanks Jamal for introducing the younglings to real music.
When this song came out, I knew nothing about Steve Winwood. I thought it was kinda poppy and ubiquitous and very eighties, and only later did I discover Traffic and really fall in love with his music. In retrospect, this is quite good.
Same for me, as a 13 year old. It wasn't until at least 10 years later when I heard "Dear Mr. Fantasy", and then more of the classic Traffic and Blind Faith.
I hate 80s music production - hated it while I lived through it and today, still. Nothing like going back and thinking, “hmmm, there’s a good song in there, somewhere.”
Yeah, I always knew Steve Winwood from his 80's and 90's stuff, and it wasn't until I got to about 20 when I made the connections with Traffic, Blind Faith, et al... Born in 1984 rocking out and singing before I could talk
Nothing poppy about this. It was written with Steve by soul music legend writers Holland, Dozier and Holland. By the way, nothing wrong with pop music. I hate genres anyway.
Why do people consider this a comeback song? Only two years earlier, he had hits like Higher Love, The Finer Things, and Back in the High Life. Four years before that, Valerie was a hit.
Steve Winwood has a legendary voice. It's amazing how good it's remained from the Spencer Davis Group when he was a teenager up into his 70's. He posted a video 10 months ago of him singing "Gimmie Some Lovin" from the Spencer Davis Group and he still sounded great.
I hope you know you're a leader in resurrecting older hit music. Not only do these other people try to do what you do, but they follow your songs. You are a leader.
@@greenhometony I got it, and also understand your reaction. In Europe, Robbie Williams was huge, for example. The more reason to listen more Steve Winwood.
I met Steve in St.Louis the afternoon before he kicked off his first concert in the Roll With It Tour back in 88. He is so short.😂 He gave me free tickets to the show.
Wow! I’ve always thought he looked tall in his videos. Well, dang. I’m 5’10” and I’m always surprised when I meet some of these guys and they’re shorter than me. 😆
Although it was 32 years ago, I am 5'7 and he was shorter than me or it seemed he was. Of course he was with his then pregnant wife and she is like 6'5. We were on the stairs going out of the hotel and were going to his car and maybe the stairs were distorting his height to me. He was incredibly nice and gracious and told his manager to make sure I had a ticket waiting for me for the show. It was an awesome open to the tour. I will never forget it. It was at the amphitheater.
Thank you, Jamel - I love your appreciation of Steve Winwood's talent. He's special, and I hope that through you, more people are finding out about him.
This song hit #1 in the summer of '88, when Winwood was still only 40. It is truly amazing that he accomplished so much greatness by that time: Spencer Davis, Blind Faith, Traffic and much of his solo career. A truly gifted musician.
When I'm listening to tunes on RU-vid, I'm almost always doing something else at the same time so I don't usually watch the video. This one is a major exception -- I will drop everything and keep my eyes locked on the screen, and most of the time I'll play it several times in a row. This video is so damn good. A song this good deserves that!
Steve Winwood said his first visit to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was the inspiration for this song and visit. Makes perfect sense to me.
That's one of those songs that's truly just real life...hard times hit everyone, just hang on and roll with it until the good times come back around because they will.
Brotha, you listen to music the right way! I see you expanding your musical horizons. That's why to me, you have the most entertaining reactions. Right on brother!
This is old folks music...back in the day. Those Juke Joints down in Alabama....black/white folks geeting together...and rollin'. Cheap wiskey,,,no air conditioning...sweat. Mr. EWinwood is just jammin' his A@# off. The video was ahead of it's time...that slick sepia tone and that low down organ music....Churchified and funky!! This is the JAM!!
Finally Roll with It!!! I was 10 years old in the summer of 88 when this song dropped. It got so much air play on MTV (remember that channel that uses to play videos?). It was holding its own with 80’s Power Houses like Def Leppard, GnR, Poison, INXS, etc. Thanks for bringing back the memories Jamel.
Now you know the magic of Steve Windwood. I was a kid in the 60s. I was a music lover at a young age. From the Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith and as a solo act, Steven Windwood is a true talent.
Bonus info; when you reacted to Prince with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne doing "While my guitar gently weeps", it was the very talented Steve Winwood on the keys in the back..
my favorite Steve Winwood recording---the most danceable song ever!!!! Don't know how anyone could sit still while listening to this! This song helped me through one of the most difficult times of my life.
One of the best shows I ever attended was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Steve Winwood as opening act. Steve played all his most famous songs for us that night. He's amazing.
Wherever I hear this song, I think of my Dad's voice in my ear saying you've got this. Especially the lyrics, " they'll be a day, you'll get there baby, you'll hear the music play, and you'll dance baby, you'll leave bad times way behind, nothing but good times on your mind." I lost my dad in 2008 and every time I hear this, I smile.
I'm chair-dancing! This is like Motown, Blues and Pop had a baby. I've always loved this song - if you can't get up and move with this one, you just can't.
Hey Jamel, Please react to _"THE FINER THINGS"_ also by *Steve Winwood* , such an underrated song but feel you'll vibe with it 100 as it has a real groove to it - Love Ya Work :). EDIT: React to the FULL 5m 49s version rather than the Official Music Video as that's shorter - Here's a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aU4tFpwYK0s.html
Jamel, loved your analysis of the song and especially your words of wisdom at the end about appreciating all the aspects of the songs you listen to. That is what separates you from most of the other reaction channels. I dig your positive attitude and appreciation for good music. Keep up the good work!
I've been known to pull over on the highway, turn the tunes up and get out and dance on the side of the road!!! I love Steve's voice!!! I grew up wqith the fabulous, best ever music - the 60's!!! Back when it was sheer raw talent, not al the dancers and fluff, no synthesized crap.
I'd be dancing, but, messed up my already bad knee. Moving and bopping from a seated position. Good memories with this song. It was on the radio all the time.
This song reminds me of being a lil girl dancing in the kitchen with my Momma and Daddy RIP.....such great memories to these old 80s tunes...I'm glad you enjoyed it he's one of my favorite artists...he's a very talented musician as well as a singer.. please try his whole albums... there's a few, songs back in the high life again, Higher love with Chaka Khan,my lady!! Love her!! And lots more! Update, just seen you have already became a fan!! ❤️❤️ Music is the universal language....
Ha Ha Jamel. Judging by the frequency of your visits to Steve Winwood's artistry you've become a Superman of his. He is one of the greatest in my opinion. Thanks for the great videos and the music you promote and possibly introduce to the You Tube community. Keep on!
Fun fact: This was written by Holland, Dozier, Holland, the guys who wrote plenty of great Motown songs for example for Diana Ross and the Supremes, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops etc. etc.
Yes! Got to roll with it. Don't shut down or close yourself off from this world. The next person you meet or the next adventure might lead you to the best thing so far. Be open to joy!
Huey Lewis and the News!!! What a voice. Start with Hip To Be Square if you liked this song. Sooooooo many hits they have Omg what a rabbit hole. I Want a New Drug, Power of Love from Back to the Future, Heart of Rock and Roll, Stuck with You, If This Is It................. etc etc.
I love your comments that you bring in your videos. Whether it be a personal perspective or just telling how much you like a song and why, it makes this more like friends getting together for music, other than just a reaction.
That's why we love you Jamel. You are honest, authentic, and optimistic. You look for the good wherever you can find it. Thank you for bringing so much joy to our lives!
