A class act. On and off the field. He played with so much finesse and was scrappy as hell at the same time. One of the most creative quarterbacks ever.
I couldn’t stand him when he took over in San Francisco over my idol and favorite athlete ever but how do you not root for this guy. Such a stand up person and a respectful human. A lot of professional athletes should present themselves like Steve Young. Congratulations on a great career #8 !
I know the feelings. I felt so betrayed by Eddie B. I hated George Seifert for forcing Joe M to leave! Joe shouldn’t have lost his job due to injuries. I think George wants his QB on his own win of SB! Joe was Bill W QB. The whole trade back then made me exited the 49er.. but this speech was a class act on Steve Y act. Explained why he stayed.. Joe M is GOAT! But they all need to thanks Bill Walsh for his system! Without him none would have been who they are back then. RIP BILL. 🥰🥰🥰for you always.
steve young .a most impressive world champ human.mvp superbowl champ. he needs to talk to all national leaders and usa presidents and give them a speach of greatness.even a half speach would do.steve young is the greatest human exhample of how to be a super human no matter who you are. long may you run steve young.amen
Absolute class act Steve Young, the best lefty drop back and run QB I've had the privilege to watch and be inspired by.. SanFran will love #8 for many years to come
Classy speech. Spent a few of his prime years on the bench. Had the Niners held on and beat the Giants in the NFC championship Young would have had multiple super bowl wins as a starter.
Bare in mind this took place in 2005, but in 2020 the NFL had two West Coast Offensive teams which were branches from Bill Wash system in the Super Bowl.
He was tremendous, yet somehow gets lost in the shuffle amongst the likes of Marino, Elway, Favre , and of course Montana. I would’ve loved to have him on the Raiders roster.
if he accepted the first overall choice in the 84 draft by the bengals and went there i think he may have been seen as the goat and won the super bowl with them under sam wyche .
Many people forget that Steve was more than just a 1-Time SB Champion*. Had things gone right in the 98 season: down goes Hearst and--from there--whether they beat ATL in the playoffs or not, the season was pretty much over. Hearst was SF's equalizer with Minn and Den would just play keep away with Davis(had SF upset the Vikes without Hearst). With Hearst, the 49ers could do it all and had a SB winning QB, managing it. So, everything was as right as could be except Hearst going down that year in the playoffs(very next play after the Catch 2). *Many may detract from the one SB that he has, but SF built up because Dallas was an absolute juggernaut in those days! If you ask me, that was the best team in their franchise history(maybe by far). I think they slaughter Staubach's Cowboys(even if the old players had the size and strength upgrade). What I am saying is, the 90s Cowboys were super loaded. Even with SF bringing in all of that talent; going for it on 4th down every possible time; and getting some turnovers, they probably got away with an arm bar or Dallas might have come back to win! That's how loaded Dallas was in the 90s! And, Jimmy Johnson looked like a genius in Dallas, but never again reached a conference championship again in Miami.
@@wq113ca My only claim is that Steve was in the running to get 2(when beating Dallas in those days was the SB). Then, Hearst gets hurt in 98(Hearst would have given them a shaht against both MN and Den), because SF had a trouble with teams that could rush the QB and a running game would give them the same chance as Denver had or better. In fact, SF had TO--which Den did not have--and Rice, who could still beat most single coverage. Imagine what that game in GB would have been like had Owens not had the dropsies in that one game(that could have been a double digit win against GB) and they still won through major adversity. So, if Hearst stays healthy, that season was a 3 team lotto...
Garroppolo almost did what Steve Young did to Joe Montana and that was replace the "GOAT". Mike Shanahan was Steve's OC super bowl 29 now Kyle is Garroppolos HC/OC. Steve Young is my all time favorite player in any sport, I've never been so excited to watch anyone else play every Sunday. Til this day I've haven't felt excited about our QB, hopefully that will change with Jimmy G.
I wish I wasn't a toddler when Steve Young was playing. Watching his highlights and games games makes me sad because I never got to see him, Elway, Marino, Favre, or Kelly play live. I feel like I missed out on a fantastic era of football.
is he a mormon? didn't feel his heart once in this speech...he speaks like he played- all out but no brakes...glad he got out of joe's shadow, finally, but i bet he played 17 years just to go one more than joe's 16...
That makes no sense.. He was forced to retire. I'm pretty sure he wanted to keep playing. Besides, he could have played for 30 years and he still would not have been Joe.
Maybe he was scared he'd tear up in public if he didn't ramble through the speech. Kinda spoke like that famous run against the Vikings. He's just a fun guy kinda eccentric. He kept a million dollar check in his dresser drawer with his socks for over a year and he actually drove an old beater when he had a lot of cash. He gave people their props but didn't want to get gushy. Straight. Old skool jock but great guy.
