Believe it or not as a niner fan that’s my least favorite part because it gives me a heart attack even though he almost always comes up big on those plays
being elusive I think it's great. I honestly don't wanna see Purdy running around. That's how Jimmy G and Lance got injury prone. We have all the RB and WR talent in the world and the best TE in the league.
Brock dominated the entire NFC, MVP finalist, went to the Super Bowl and yet has never had a FULL OFFSEASON to get ready that kid got better right before training camp from a UCL injury to the point they didn’t think he could start! Like how do people not see that?
It was crazy you could see Purdy’s deep ball improve during the season. He clearly struggled the first half of the season on deep throws and by the end of the regular season he was dropping DIMES deep
It's time for the coaching staff to allow BP to command the offense, making play changes at the line of scrimmage, pointing out protection needs, being more vocal between possessions. He's earned these operations to allow him to fully be in control of the offense. His keen awareness should not be muzzled. The leash should be removed.
Brock can improve by understanding and taking on the protection responsibilities in the offense away from the oline. His mind will always be his superpower. He has the gift of accuracy like Joe. Don’t bet like Steve and Lamar and Josh, be like you Brock.
Brock does not have a mind, Kyle Shannon is the mind!!! That is not a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning offense. He runs the plays that is given to him by Kyle Shannon and he doesn't change plays at the line. Stop taking shots at Qb who are better then him. If you put Lamar or Josh in that offense and those weapons, They would go crazy!!!!
Brock can throw the ball with pin point accuracy about 25-45 yards. I'm happy with that. The big strong arm QB's don't have what Brock has: consistency.
Yes, Brad, I do believe his arm can get stronger. Plus, once Kyle allows Purdy to make his own adjustments at the line of scrimmage. He can be like Joe and/or Brady.
I totally believe Brock will improve even more this year. He hasn't even truly had his first to second year jump because he was rehabbing last year coming off a half season's worth of football in his "rookie year"
Yeah. I'm listening to what he is saying and I'm perplexed. Brock throws the ball all over the field accurately. He scrambles very well. He has the best deep ball game in the game. Most completions down field past 20, 30, and 40 yards. What are we talking about here? All he can complain about is Brocks arm isn't Josh Allens. Except Josh Allen and Mahomes are worse throwing accurate deep balls. Fuck off Steve. He's just talking here.
He led NFL in deep-ball accuracy. You probably don’t follow statistics and seeing the media mention how Brock is best in NFL deep ball accurate passer. Wow!
I agree with what Steve said and you too. Purdy is more of the Montana Brady type QB He is a game changer with kind of a smooth style where say Young and Mahomes have kind of a rough style. I’m sure Purdy is going to improve every year but I also feel he’s got to have the O Line to do that. He’s got to be protected so he can work his magic
The problem with a deep ball is that it takes time for a deep pass to develop. We don’t have an offensive line that can block long enough for the deep passes. Brock has to get rid of the ball with in 2.5 seconds. Last year he did that. This quick release took the offense to another level. Does anyone think that this year line can hold defenses off for 3 to 4 seconds???
@@WillJ183it would’ve been very hard to move up in the draft without trading someone . also the fucking shitty cowboys got the last solid o-line talent in tyler guyton. another reason to hate dallas but we got slick rick, hope he’s solid
Great OL dont become FA. Trent was acquired from literally a forced trade. He either got traded or he would retire. He forced Washington to get some type of value. So even if you draft OL it might take a couple of years for them to fully develop or they may become an average player. No one actually knows how a player will develop with the jump from college to the pro’s.
I have often been accused of being way too critical of quarterbacks especially 49ers quarterbacks. But I don't understand why people don't see what Purdy is doing.
Right? Watching the games and looking at stats shows he is in the top 5 quarterbacks in the league. People want to act like ability to throw the ball 70 yards downfield makes other quarterbacks better for some reason. Morons.
I sometimes feel like Brock makes it so smooth that people under appreciate him.. Kyle’s said it himself, Brock looks for the deep ball before he goes for the check down. I’ll never understand why people think he’s a check down merchant. Also, his ad libbing is my favorite aspect of his game.
I am a big fan of Brock and have been on the Hype train since his first pre-season. Not as early as others, but still early. That being said, let us be honest: He didn't have a bad game in the super bowl... and neither did he have a good game. He missed passes he typically makes. He didn't escape and make the plays as often as he used to. His play that got called back was on a hold by trent was great... and not much else. I have said it before and will say it here again: At this point I think Brock will be held back by Kyle far more than Brock's weaknesses will hold back the 49ers. I do not see Kyle allowing Brock to take the next step and controlling the offense. i do not see Kyle, yet, giving him the ability make the final decision on plays an audibles and so forth like Peyton, Brady, Big Ben, and Brees were given; like Montana was given.
Most guys his age sit on the bench, Brock is getting an accelerated learning course while proving us that he can handle the pressure, he only makes nothing but rookie mistakes, he has an arm, has that quick release, has wheels. On top of him being a starter already, he’s being a starter on a winning team, so he’s winning/losing the big battles rn, he’s gonna be the cream of the crop in little time
I know he doesn’t throw the 90 yard deep ball a lot but he does lead the league in passes over 20-40 yards in both accuracy and attempts. So I really don’t see the need to work on passes any longer then that considering those passes are really only used in certain situations.
Steve young sat the bench behind Montana for 3 seasons. Purdy was thrown in to the mix in his first season. The reason young had to scramble so much was he quit executing the west coast offense in favor of a middle distance passing attack. Never did like that about him. The difference between young and Purdy. Purdy is spot on with the middle distance receivers
I'm glad he's adding strength. I'm not sure if it will equate into a stronger throwing arm, but hopefully, it will make him less susceptible to injury.
100% agree with Steve. The next level is ad-libbing. I’ve been thinking this since the Super Bowl. Shanahan is not going to be the reason the Niners will win a chip. It will have to be on the QB. If he played the Super Bowl like he did the Lions game, I think they win.
Throwing the football 50 yards down field is an unnecessary skill for Brock. Especially in this Shannahan timing offense. All he has to do is be what he's been. He already has the athleticism. So he needs to become stronger and quicker and show that he can be dangerous leaving the pocket as well. Similar to Mahomes, Wilson, or Allen.
"He's almost 24 years old!" Dude, you said that like he's too old to improve! haha stop and listen to yourself for a sec man. I paused there because it wasn't going well and I didn't trust it to get better, but a QB like Purdy can keep improving well into his late 30s. And by that, I mean a QB who's game isn't completely reliant on running.
Question: If arm strength is such a limiting factor for Purdy, then how did he lead the league in AIR YARDS/pass and deep pass completion percentage, and some others?
So Brock should want to throw 7 more interceptions and 2 less touchdowns like Josh Allen did last season? no thanks if it means throwing to the WRONG team more
Montana could scramble could run could evade sense pressure and yes he was an excellent runner when need be. Most likely the most fluid qb ever, so before Steve was doing it Joe perfected it.
Purdy ran Jimmy off. Trey off. And Darnold. All 3 are high level talent. Purdy rolled in. Once he went in. The others couldn't get off the bench. I'm over the "beneficiary of the Lamborghini " nonsense. Purdy has elite decision making and elite accuracy. Seems like he's gonna be tough to unseat.
I really like your theory. The evidence is there that Brock will throw a lot further. Just look at his pictures because he looks jacked. That’s a great prediction imo.
Purdy can move as fast as anyone for 10 yards. he is elite. this offseason he is working on maybe be the fastest for 20 yards. Not a strong armed thrower? - that first season he threw a 67 yard pass.
The area where Purdy needs to get better is in the clutch situations. Since 2019 the Niners have only been missing a Qb that can come in during the big games and give them that money drive Td to secure the win. If Purdy can become that they can win a ring but until then it will be the same situation as always. Niners go up in the big game, big mistake gives other team a chance and they go get a money drive to win the game while Niners are settling for field goals.
He is the most efficient of throws over 20 yards. He doesn’t need to uncork it 90 yards down the field. How many 90 yard passes do you think Mahomes or Allen has completed? 🙄
Kyle's been propped up by hand-picked underlings and others doing his hw; he's fraudulent and he wouldn't survive on the East Coast; they would eviscerate him. He and Niner brass got so lucky with Brock and they try to act like they knew it was going to happen (bullshit!) If I were Brock (and they should be so happy I"m not) I'd let 'em know it too. I'd use it as leverage to get what I want from the organization and get my SB ring. They're (Niner players) gonna have to insulate themselves against the idiocy of Kyle and brass (John, Paraag, Jed) if they're gonna win it all. I'm listening to the Cohns and they said that all of those guys don't make eye contact and act avoidant (cuz they're guilty of something; being fraudulent).
Improve on his deep ball playing better in the playoffs there is definitely a drop off in production from the regular season to the playoffs and being more confident throwing in bad weather games.
I've read Purdy has been putting on a working-man off season & its showing. Brock is looking very muscular. Point is: I think we'll see Brock use more of his athleticism this upcoming seaaon. He is more athletic then people think. He's not been asked to use it consistently (including Kyle). And now he's putting on core mucle to protect himself. Fun fact: His sister is also a extremely good athlete noise who just won a major tennis player award. Athletics is a Purdy household trait.
I don’t think that Brock really has an issue with the deep ball, but I think what Steve is talking about is some of the special throws that those elite QBs make that almost no one else on the planet can make. They cheat for lack of a better phrase lol.
Hola amigos, soy de argentina y fan de los 49ers. Creen que purdy sea el qb del futuro o es el sistema como dicen y simplemente en algún momento se caerá. Saludos.
Uh, Steve, not sure how to break this to you, but Purdy IS throwing it all over the field. Name one throw that he can't make. Purdy set NFL records for accuracy percentage on intermediate throws, and the record for deep throws!
Not sure how he can still say he can't make certain throws and he can't run around when he did both of those things and was literally and statistically the best QV in the league last year. Enough, he played better than Mahomes and he still has so much room for improvement. In addition, Brock is doing it behind an O-line that doesn't pass protect as well. However, that could be because they actually got called for holding. Stop with the 90yd pass. Nobody does that and Brock is 1" shorter than Mahomes. These narratives are getting so tired and inaccurate. I expect more from Steve to be honest.
Totally nailed Steve's take, but Montana was one of the most mobile QBs, lots of rollouts and made plenty of plays with his legs. Steve, like any of us, has bias. Still, nobody says or does uncork anything 90yds. Stop with the Paul Bunyon mythology stuff. Get grounded in reality. Brock's is #1 in yds per attempt last season. Come the ef on!!! Start using your eyes and WATCH THE TAPE. PLEASE!!! He tossed the Aiyuk pass in the NFC Championship game 50yds in the air. Maybe he has to use his whole body, but you're supposed to.
He was already number one for air yards over 20 yards last season. Is also in the 90th percentile scrambling for Speed you can see this on the tape as well as the stats Brooke auto dragged Shanahan out of his fourth quarter deathstroke so maybe it's the team as a whole can operate better now
I'm worried that his strength will change so much, the ball will fly faster than the timing he's been used to his whole life. I didn't see issues with arm strength last season. I saw the pocket collapsing and guys hitting him with no blockers.
Mahomes is not all of that. The NFL carries him and coddles him. And so do the officials. In two 49er Super Bowls against the Chiefs, the Chiefs have had zero holding calls against them??? What a joke.
Steve's not wrong about the modern game being a great fit for players like himself. His suggestion that Brock must become more like those players is to suggest that Joe, Tom, and Drew wouldn't also light up the league. Brock's improvement will come from emulating those players, not Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen.
I honestly don't want to see BCB running around the field. QBs either run or have a long NFL career. The roster has a lot of RBs and a lot of WRs to do all the running the Niners need. Once every 3 games when stuff is getting predictable and we need a win? Sure. On the playoffs when you need to pull a rabbit outta the hat? Ok. Every game? That's how Jimmy G and Lance became injury prone. To see that happen to Purdy would be a catastrophe.
@@tikka300wsm5 yea damn Kyle why throw the ball 3 straight possessions and got 3 3 and outs when u could’ve ran the ball to establish the pass? It’s Kyle fault, simple as that. Idc what u say
@@heemladen5872 Personally I believe it was Kyle fault it was the oline not protecting Purdy. Also was the defense at the end of the Superbowl. You could also blame CMC for fumbling. My point is the team had some blame
Brock needs to go under center. He will have more time in the pocket to process the game. The shotgun takes about a second off before you are ready to throw.
I guess we gonna overlook that he uncorked several 40+ air yard passes, including at least one of 47 yds in the air? I do think he can improve, but I love how ya talking like he hasn't already got a pretty good one. No not elite, but we ain't talking Mac Jones, Jimmy G dink n dunk, either.
The rhetoric here is borderline lunacy. Mahomes didn't play like an all-star, put the team on his shoulders and win the game qb in the Super Bowl. They were trailing for the better half of the game. Oh yeah and he threw a pick. The loss came down to a handful of bad decisions by Kyle Shanahan. Not drafting/trading for quality offensive linemen, even after losing 4 qb in one season. Not knowing the rules of OT. Not targeting the right receivers and not using the game winning schemes that got you to the SB in the first place. Same thing he did in his last SB. Brock Purdy was more than good enough to win this SB. Unfortunately, Shanahan made it near impossible to do so.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.... The one stat Brock, Coach K and everyone else needs to focus on is... Pass Attempts....and here's why: In games where Brock makes LESS THAN 30 pass attempts in game, t he team's won/loss record is 10 & 1 HOWEVR In games where Brock makes MORE THAN 30 pass attempts, that record drops to 3 & 4 So....explain that one!!! ;-)
When we were running the ball well and imposing our will on the defenses, he doesn't have to throw as much. But when we fall behind, especially late in games, when the clock becomes a factor, he has to throw more. I think Kyle will start trusting him more to throw the ball early in games, and he will get better at coming from behind like like he did in the playoffs.
I love Steve but the "he was the last in the draft for a reason" is getting old. Go back to pre-2021 mock drafts, back when they were doing mocks before they knew which QBs were coming out of College. Brock was a 1st/2nd rd QB in those mocks, he decided not come out and didn't have great senior yr and he dropped. Mac Jones and Tua were first rd QBs and there physical measureables aren't really any better than Brock. For whatever reason he fell and the Niners got him in the 7th rd...btw happy BP day, it was exactly 2 yrs ago today that he was drafted.
The key to Purdy's success is to keep a strong team around him. When he hurt his arm in the playoff game vs the Eagles, we all knew it was over. He needs to be kept healthy and if that happens, this man will win the Niners multiple Superbowls!
Lamar Jackson is Vick 2.0. He throws some many errant passes to wide open receivers, it's ridiculous to even include him. He is phenomenal at running. He is meh at throwing.
He's won 100th of a second slower on the 10-yard split then Lamar Jackson. I don't think his speed is a problem. I think he's faster than most. Quarterbacks.
He's very good, not great, showed his weaknesses in SB,overthrew two open wr's in endzone, had awful 3rd qtr, system QB in Alex Smith Jimmy G.style, awful on 3rd down in SB,welted in face of Blitz,a copycat league will see film on him and blitz a lot more, short, weak arm, remember Alex Smith,Jimmy G. Won tons of Regular season games, but they had limitations like Brock, don't get me wrong, worse QB's have won SB's and similiar QB's have gotten to SB's like Brock & lost like Brock, ala Chandler, Neil O Donnell, Rex Grossman,Jake Delhomme,Ferragamo,Tony Eason and so on,so i don't get the great feat people act like Brock did,he is a system QB,would i want him as my teams franchise QB???NO,to be honest. But he will win your team games BUT when he starts losing pieces look for him to have huge drop off,Kittle getting older,he did next to nothing with his weapons in SB,Deebo,Aiyuk,Kittle.
