Living in fear, burying the past and discovering magic in unusual places, STEVE FRAYNE is one of the most successful magicians of our time, having overcome health issues, bullies, and an alter-ego that came to be too much to live up to.
Having destroyed his alter-ego, DYNAMO, in December 2023, Steven chats to Jamie about the beauty of naiveté, arriving in London on a £1 Megabus from Bradford, to taking a leap in the states, which ultimately led to him to find the persona of Dynamo. It’s a story inspired from humble origins of watching his grandfather perform magic [06.55], which has enabled him to overcome shyness and connect with people all over the world [28.22]. Steven also opens up about finding light after dark times [34.59]
AND of course, Steven blows Jamie away with some sleight of hand, and real magic.

Good podcast! Used to watch Dynamo years ago I said at the time I think he is an Alien because he was so brilliant he couldn’t be human! Didn’t know anything about his journey to get there Brave young man ! I need to watch some more of his magic!

Dynamo never failed to amaze and shock people. He was absolutely fabulous. He was so in demand that he was having no time left for his wife and child. "This too shall pass," is something that has given me comfort and hope for years now. Steven NEVER made people feel lower than himself, never!

Im loving this podcast. Jamie is so lovely. I think this was my favourite interview so far. So good to see the person behind the persona. I wish he wouldnt feel bad for having a break-down though, Im not surprised all the shit caught up with him.

Fantastic interview. The card trick at the end though….?? I met him many years ago at a book signing in Sheffield. He was so lovely he walked through the centre of town from the train and kids were following him. A woman in the queue said she firmly believed that he was Jesus sent back down to earth. I don’t know about that but I firmly believe he can read people’s minds somehow.
