This interview was almost like a therapy session

"Taking song craft seriously but not taking ourselves seriously." So perfectly descriptive.

I haven't been able to get I to any of the BNL albums since Steven left. His songwriting was what elevated the band from something average to some fantastic. The way he could blend seriousness and humour within a couple of lines is something special. Steven's solo stuff is unfortunately severely underrated and underappreciated. He has released several songs which are as good as anything put out by BNL.

I can’t get used to Jim, Kevin, and Tyler filling in for Steve. They’re all good singers but Steve was part of what made BNL who they were.

Paul McCartney said that these two had the best harmonies he’s ever heard. I hope they give the past the boot and see what kind of future could happen. Life is too short to let talent die.

It doesn't appear there's enough animosity to prevent a reunion. The guys are 50ish now and still have the chops to do a proper tour. They would RAKE in the $$$$. Do it for the fans!

Another example of how two great volalists and songwriters achieve better results together than apart. Supertramp was another.

Tom, this is an amazing interview. The way it is edited as though they are both there at the same time...the way you showed their connection even though they've been apart...really, really well done. They will ALWAYS be one of my favorite bands and the soundtrack of my adolescence. I'm so glad they reconciled for their induction - it wouldn't have been the same without Steven.

I hope this leads to good things. I don’t expect them to immediately reconcile. But hopefully it leads to a gradual thaw that eventually turns into something amazing.

My first band i really got into as a kid back in the early 90s. Prolly my favorite band if i had to pick one of all the music i listen to. The albums with Steven I could listen to everyday

They threw away an opportunity to be around each other as friends for a decade. Sad to lose that much time with a good buddy.

These guys were the soul of the 90s. Everything that was warm and hopeful about that era comes flowing back whenever I play my BNL discs.

Their songs were great but the harmony they had was beyond words. Without those two voices it has never been the same. Can't wait to see them tonight :)

For a lot of people the Hip was their Canadian band, for others like me it was BNL. Just the wit and fun in their songs did it for me. Even if it's for only one night I can't wait to see them together again

We love Tom Power's CBC Music program in the 1000 Islands (New York side). He's a very intelligent dude.

The line in Enid, took me 2 years to get over the loss, is one of the sweetest harmonies to effect my soul, BNL make Canda great again, they deserve hall of fame 4 damn sure

Such precious memories surrounding BNL. My kids first "adult" concert. So sad when Steven left... Happy they are getting the recognition they deserve..

Barenaked ladies were there for me through happy times, sad times, and some very dark times. I saw them several times with Steven in the band and once without. I will always love them however when I saw them without Steven, it felt like something was missing. It reminded me of being in grade 9 (pardon the coincidence) and you are dancing with a girl you have liked for a long time....at the end of the dance....you get a peck on the cheek. It was pretty good....but you were left wanting for more. I am going to enjoy the evening but know that I am going to experience that same feeling all over again.

We want you back. You're both great, but together you're magical.

Criminally underrated

I think we all want to know. Who sprung for the dollar? To do that Speaker's Corner video. I'll guess it was Tyler. The drummer.

Such a great split interview and funny how even after all that time apart Steve and Ed are basically on the same wavelength, hard not to get nostalgic and hope for a reunion and some new material from the band reformed.

Great interview. That had potential to be really difficult get together. Glad to hear Ed reached out before hand to ease the tension. Their bathroom sessions were always fun to watch and listen to.

Love them both. Together, separate, whatever!

I hope this stirs feelings of reunion among the members. They belong together.

Your interviews are so enjoyable and positive. You don’t dig for the lows, but rather keep the session so focussed on the success of the band. Well done sir! I too listened, on repeat, the Bare Nakeds. Loved that time in my life.

Best two memories of BNL: Before a concert at Christmas, they came out and signed autographs with the audience (who else does that?!) and at World AIDS Conference in Toronto, they sang their hearts out even though through various events at the conference they got started late. Both times they were amazing and gave every ounce of energy to their audience. Thanks BNL!

I am truly in tears here. I cannot say I am fan of these guys, but I can appreciate and respect them and their work and how far they have come and how their meager start turned into huge success. I find some of their songs very catchy. I do have alot of love and admiration for them, again even though I am not much of fan. I am thrilled they be reuniting at the Junos and I for sure will have tears streaming down my face. These guys all belong together..and with time and distance and age, and reflection maybe something will come out of this..but also we don't know all that went on, so maybe it was best for them to do their own thing, but for sure Steven is missed, it is not the same without him..

I am really looking forward to it too ! Can't wait

I saw BNL about 10 years and you would never sense any discord within the band, Page had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand

Just amazing, realized how much I truly missed them. We used to listen to them all the time during our yearly cottage trip to Parry Sound.

Great interviews, superb editing - and such a wonderful thing to get BNL on stage together again. Sure, BNL has of course been BNL without Steve - just not the same BNL that I feel in love with. No matter if this was truly a reunion or not, I applaud Ed and the band for letting Steve in - and I applaud Steve for going through with it. I am well aware of the "like a marriage" effect, I've lived through it myself and know that it can hurt. But this was just wonderful to see and hear - and as a longtime fan, I can just bow and thank you all.

LOVE YOU ALL GUYS! No matter what happens at the Junos your true fans will always LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!

Seeing them perform is amazing, the on-stage chemistry was like they'd never stopped playing together! I would love to see them reunite, even if only a limited basis, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Still, brought back some VERY good memories, and I would LOVE to see them perform again together. Thank you, BNL, you were part of the soundtrack of my life, and I can't thank you enough for the music you created.

im so excited to see steven page and barenaked ladies perform at junos. ill be there on the floor. hope to meet some famous faces. get autographs and pics maybe. bnl has been awesome since i first heard them in 1991 lovers in a dangerous time. i got all their stuff on lp, cd and cassette (yes tape) i got their yellow tape (my 2nd copy). congrats to bnl. and withouth page they are doing fantastic. i have seen them live 4 times (2001, 2007, 2015 and 2017). so i guess this will be the 5th time :) cheers mike from coquitlam canada

I still remember them getting discovered in the much music booth and getting band from concerts because of there name :) I use to listen to them when first came out on my bus ride from Vancouver to Osoyoos to visit grandma during summer holidays

wow such professionnalisme from Steven and ed and such a amazing respect for both of them the way they fix there difference. After all yes there been together for more than 30 years.You can not hide the success the group as in or out media.That prove that they are still human.From what I just see at the juno and the reaction of the fans well i lift my hat to the group on a job well done and hopefully to see you back again like all the fan over the world. Been to 28 shows from 96 until just before silverball dropped. Always had a great experience. As life happens and tickets become more expensive I just don't go see them live anymore. Happy to finally see them get this as they deserve it. While the band without page is not bad it's just a different sound. Would love for Steve to come back, but I'll still buy their music either way.

I really want to see this reunion performance! I miss them so much. Those old videos were hilarious.

For me Steven Page is 50% of what made the band (or what made the band GREAT). Ed was 35% and the other three, 5% each. Again, for ME! Never cared much for what BNL did after Steven left, it didn’t speak it me anymore. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Page put the BARENAKED in Barenaked Ladies.

Such a great interview! I realize that BNL and Page have gone separate ways, but it will be so good to see them together on stage again. Both BNL and Page are better as performers when they are together. Congrats to everyone!

Why am I crying

Congrats BNL. I'm 60+ yrs and grew up in The Beatles era. BNL is one of my favorite bands of all those years. Steve is sort of like what Benny Hill would have been like if he could sing. I also really enjoyed seeing Ed work with Chris Hadfield. Hoping for more great stuff in the future.

I've been to many concerts since the 80s and the BNL was one of the best concert experiences ever.

This was a great band, very creative both musically and lyrically.Never quite the same since Steven Page left.I believe they should have been even bigger.

Not sure why BNL affects me so much. They just have this ability to reach into the soul. That's why they are so beloved far and wide. I have mixed feelings with all of this. Yes I'm so excited for them and for the possibility of a joint performance but it drudges up 10 years of feelings of loss over the break up. As a long time loyal fan from about 1997, I've been to dozens of concerts and have bought everything pre and post Steve (and of Steve's). The band is always awesome but they are somehow missing a key ingredient no matter how you slice it. Like you made a dish and forgot to add something important to the recipe. It may look like the dish but something is just not there. I listen to each of them interviewed separately here and it's nice, polished almost, but it reminds me of what could have been, both in making music together and performances I've seen as a foursome. 10 years! Lost. On one hand do I think they will get back together and catch up and make new albums to dazzle me? It's probably a tall order, but to witness them perform the classics together regularly (Jane, Old Apartment, everything from Stunt!) that would be worth it all! Even if they didn't make a single new song together going forward. That's probably selfish and unrealistic to say all this. After all, they have their own stories and reasons for splitting that we may never truly learn but the BNL is not just theirs anymore. It part of all of us who love them dearly and we have a stake in seeing them back together. Let's not let any more wasted time go by. 143 BNL!

I really wish Ed would put the past in the past and at least do a reunion tour with Page.

GOOD INTERVIEW

This is why I have so much damn respect for this band. They've all got good heads on their shoulders. And despite such an unfortunate setback, they seem to have all handed the situation like adults. There's no ego, no drama, they clearly have empathy for one another even if they can't always coexist together.

This is the way Canadian bands break out ... the songs that are on the back burner always do great .

Love the band. Just not the same without Steve. Their voices are a perfect match for harmony. So glad to finally see them back on stage together. You can induct the ladies without Steve. Most of their hits he either sang, or sang a good part of.

That was an amazing show. Both the BNL, and the Junos in general. I look forward to the stream next year.

Never say never and sometimes it is good to be apart for a while and better when you make up in this case make music together again

"Gordon" was NOT released in 1994; I drove into Toronto in 1992 for a U2 concert, with my brother and his 2 friends wearing out the CD.
