Steven Seagal black belt testing rare footage that was filmed at his home in LA back in 2000 or 2001. This video shows how tenshin aikido dan testing is usually done. The students in the video were put up for promotion by larry reynosa sensei one of steven seagal senior black belts. In the video you can see several of tenshin aikido techniques that are demonstrated for seagal sensei like, iriminage, nodotsukiage, kotegaeshi, kaitennage and the famous tenshin aikido randori ending of the test. Tenshin aikido randori is only done this way by the students of tenshin aikido, no other aikido style doe randori this way. Very few aikidoka have ever passed a randori testing by seagal sensei or any of his senior students. Lenny sly sensei of the #roguewarriors training compound is one of a few that DID pass randori testing his first time out doing it on testing. Lenny sly sensei is one of couple that is actually certified to teach this form of aikido. Others claim to teach tenshin aikido but have NEVER been through and passed or been through and failed a TENSHIN AIKIDO black belt testing, that would ultimately mean that they are NOT qualified/certified to teach tenshin aikido. We also know WHO are qualified/certified to teach this effective aikido and WHO ARE NOT and those people know who they are. Furthermore we also know who has claimed to be direct students of seagal sensei and have NEVER taken a tenshin aikido test or HAVE taken a tenshin aikido black belt test and failed! Again they know who they are and again they are NOT qualified to teach tenshin aikido. There is only a handful currently of qualified sensei's teaching tenshin aikido. Those people are.... in senior order.
Hauro Matsuoka Shihan
Larry Reynosa Shihan
Craig Dunn sensei
Luis Silva sensei
Jorge Angulo sensei
Lenny Sly sensei
Elliot Freeman sensei
Josh Gold sensei
Bob Kamka sensei
The above named people are notably the most well known tenshin aikido sensei's.

Absolutely brutal. It takes extreme discipline to get through a test like that!

Anybody who knows anything about Aikido will agree that Steven Seagal was indeed a very rare talent,But unfortunately i think all the films he made went to his head and he has become a very strange man who has lost touch with reality. This is a shame as he was very very talented in Aikido.

Vaughan MacEgan it's a hard art to learn and takes a long time with a high ratio of teacher to student so most people exposed to it aren't that good at it and most people who are good at it fool you by making it look easy.
@VestigialHead

+Vaughan MacEgan Very few Aikido schools practice with aggression or non contention. This makes a lot of the students fail under real pressure of combat. This school is one of the better ones. They look like they are actually trying to take the guy down in the randori so good job. The techniques in Aikido are good as they come from Jiu jitsu whcih has had hundreds of years of real battle testing. The problem is some instructors want it to be super soft and that is a difficult thing to attain.

nothing about aikido is real.. there is no real sparring.. even these techniques shown labeled "real aikido" have ZERO resistance.. and resistance is actually the opposite, the uke going with the flow real martial arts have real sparring.. legit sparring, people trying against each other wake up the fact that this is what is considered "real" is hilarious.. go try this shit at a bjj or wrestling open mat and get back to me

Have you by chance traveled to New Port Richey Florida to visit Ronin Studios? We had a guest Sensei visit from California , I was late showing due to a vocational obligation and missed his introduction, I never got his name, if memory serves me, it seems you resemble him or he resembled you, in both appearance and in knowledge, it could have been you, could be a coincidence, but if I don't ask I'll never know .

you guys forgot Jaime Calderon Sensei, he's actually in this video with a shodan
@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13
@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13 7 лет назад
kmiranda322 Actually no we didn't. Jaime wasn't included because he's not a Tenshin aikido sensei and HE HAS PUBLICLY stated that. In fact he made a video and addressed that at the end of the video saying he does NOT teach tenshin aikido, just aikido. So we chose not to include him in the description of this video for the sake of him being offended by labeling him as a tenshin aikido sensei. Keep in mind HE chose to make that statement, so we were respecting that. Furthermore Lenny Sly sensei has been branding the aikido style "TenShin" for almost the past two years. So before you decide to comment next contradicting the STYLE TenShin by saying there's no such aikido style name TenShin. We already clarified that above within this comment that Sly sensei has been branding this form of aikido as TenShin. Sly sensei chose to do that out of respect to Seagal sensei methodology of aikido and Jorge Angulo sensei (one of Lenny sly's teachers) supports and backs Lenny Sly sensei 100%. So again we we're respecting Jamie's statement and by not listing him was not an attempt to discredit. If you feel the need to clarify what sly sensei is doing, by all means contact Jorge Angulo sensei.
@kmiranda322
@kmiranda322 7 лет назад
THE ROGUE WARRIORS - Where Warriors are FORGED Sooo in an effort to not offend Calderon Sensei and as a token of your respect for him.. you decide to omit the fact that he has received Shodan from Takesensei by not listing him, effectively discrediting him... all because he says Tenshin Aikido is just aikido. But this contradicts previous videos from this very channel. In one of Lennys early videos he acknowledges Calderon Sensei's background and shouts him out... So which is it? Cmon Bob who are you fooling, none of this sound like you're concerned with giving due respect. At the end of the day you can have whoever you want on your list. But truth is truth.
@gregoryw.1160
@gregoryw.1160 7 лет назад
kmiranda322 In all honesty, Kmiranda322 has a point! In fact, not to long ago Calderon-sensei and Sly-sensei were BOTH talking about creating a joint seminar. Maybe Calderon-sensei doesn't want to be included in vids listed as Tenshin affliated? Is that what you guys mean? Harry Matsuoka-sensei is kind of doing his own thing--is it like that maybe? If not, Kmiranda322 has a point. Changing history because of organizational politics is pretty ugly. According to Stanley Pranin-sensei, Aikikai has tried to write MORIHIRO SAITO-SHIHAN out of the history of the Iwama dojo and shrine's history. So yeah, it's done, but it's still ugly! ...Unless it's by request or understanding by both parties?

kmiranda322 Hi Kevin, this is Lenny's business partner, Dana. I wrote the description. Please understand that based on what has been said lately on his past video's the impression is that Jaime does not want to be listed as a TenShin instructor, he wants to be listed as just Aikido. We did not want to be caught in a catch 22 and have that argument either. Lenny built this branding and now and organization because the Aikido community had a need for it. Lenny has been branding this style actively for awhile now for the purpose of teaching that Aikido is made up of several different styles. Without a brand like Iwama, TenShin, etc., there will be a definite misunderstanding if someone has a desire to learn this style and goes to any dojo expecting this result. We have had the support of others, such as Josh Gold, to brand this and open eyes and label perception. Lenny supported Jaime in a video a year ago, helped him market, and had a desire to see him grow, and at one point has spoken to him about his organization. But he saw a difference in goals and found a desire to see this grow in a different way and has been doing his own thing with it, just as Jaime is. This is not intended to be a pissing match, this was intended to not label him with something he didn't want to be categorized in. Jaimie has his own vision for his own direction as we do and have not bothered him on his media sources because of this. There is a lot of love and respect for the brand growth. The goal we all have is to educate the overall aikido community/public that they have options and that this works so we ALL can grow. We ALL can leave a mark on the world that will be remembered and possibly save a life someday with another style option that is undeniably valid in today's world. TenShin has become a common public name and description due to efforts by those who believe in this style and grew up with that little kid smile on their face when they first saw it. That's why Lenny told Jaime to use that to build his channel to help him grow. If he feels that he wants to be grouped in with the branding then that's up to Jaime to make that call and discuss with Lenny if he wants. Lenny has been furthering his education and expressing his Aikido in this style to be able to continue growing the brand for the world to see. But as far as the listing, I did not place him in there due to prior expression that he did not want to be labeled as such, respectfully, and was doing his own thing with it.
@kmiranda322
@kmiranda322 7 лет назад
Dana Lucky13 Dana hi, I'm not knocking anyone on this list, just think credit is due where it's due. You're absolutely right; this isn't a pissing match. That's why this situation is so pointless. Lol. Lenny's aikido speaks for itself. He's awesome. I've never met him, but he seems to be a great teacher and has a steadfast passion for aikido. I respect that, I am not minimizing that, and I respect his push to elevate the "Tenshin Style". However, even Seagal Sensei doesnt believe in styles.. and this difference of opinion doesnt remove his notable sensei status. There is obvious bad blood here, which is so unfortunate and trivial. Hopefully, whatever beef there is between the different factions of practical aikido can be set aside so that we can grow as one family. This tree is going to grow in different directions, some people will want to do it one way, others will want another avenue, and that's perfectly fine. Still the same tree. At the end of the day though, life is short and petty politics is unnecessary. There's so much we can learn from each other regardless of style, if we are humble enough to want to learn.

I watched seagal sensei first movie above the law and liked this martial art. So i search for the nearest aikido dojo in ft lauderdale and founded florida aikikai located at holiday park. Its the traditional style i realized studying 5kyu techniques and nobady ever mentioned seagal sensei name in the dojo. I study under peter bernath sensei who is a shihan now. I think seagal sensei was the first amercian shihan. What i dont like is people bad mouth seagal sensei, because he put aikido on the mat and made it with great pratical reconigition to hollywood. His first generation student had a tenshin dojo across the street from florida and i went to the seminar that was under Harou sensei. That dojo was closed down for some reason i dont know but never get the opportunity to speak to any of the sensei. Seagal sensei first generation student was in the out for justice movie in the bar fight. I think his name is Siliva. He was the one that ran the dojo across the street. My training has been on and off and presently iam first kyu which i should be sandan by now if my training was constant. But i wont bad mouth the traditional style because sankyo works and nikko, but i watch all of seagal sensei movies and documentarys and put in the pratical techniques with what i learnt from the traditional style also all of your demonstration of course.
