It is amazing how Spielberg could create such a masterpiece. I don't think anyone else could ever or will ever make another ET. Perfection.

I'm just home from watching this in the cinema with my Mum and daughter. My Mum brought me to the cinema to watch it when it came out. So special to watch it 40 years later with her. It was just as magical and emotional

This story is stolen from Satyajit Ray . (Indian Oscar winner director)

Steven Spielberg has indeed stated that E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was inspired in part by his own parents’ divorce. He used the story of E.T. to explore themes of family, responsibility, and filling a void in one’s heart. As for the claim that E.T. was stolen from Satyajit Ray’s work, it’s a complex issue. The script for Ray’s film, “The Alien”, did circulate in Hollywood, and there are similarities between it and E.T. However, Spielberg has denied these allegations, stating he was a high school student when “The Alien” script was being shared. While it’s clear that both works share thematic elements, proving direct plagiarism can be challenging. It’s also worth noting that storytelling often involves building upon existing ideas and themes. Without concrete evidence, it’s difficult to definitively say whether E.T. was “stolen” from Ray’s work. Also, inspiration is not the same thing as stealing.

@@StaticBlaster Whats funny is one of the claims is that ET's design traits were directly lifted from Rays script. But when read how Rays original story of what the creature would look like its clear that Ray "stole" the idea of the creatures look from what had become the stereotypical alien look that from the time of the Roswell incident. Here is Rays description as he originally wrote it which sounds way more like the stereotypical alien look going back to the 1940's which bascially started around the time of the Roswell incident and became known as "The Greys". Rays description: "a cross between a gnome and a famished refugee child: large head, spindly limbs, a lean torso. Is it male or female or neuter?" Seems like Ray simply described the creature based on the look of The Greys so in essence he stole it from the pop culture of the early to mid 20th century. Steven also used more or less that same Grey look for his aliens in Close Encounters. The other common alien look tended to be something more reptilian. Seems like to a small extent Steven took the look of The Greys and loosely meshed it with the look of reptilian aliens to arrive at the ET look.

@@dylanmoore7902 I heard about it. And apparently he’s got a different team working with him. No Kathleen Kennedy, no Frank Marshall, not even Michael Kahn. I’m excited to see it, but I have a feeling Spielberg is thinking about retirement.
