So weird to hear from the man himself that he doesn't like Hook. I always enjoyed it growing up, and most people of my generation feel the same way, I'm sure. I was completely oblivious to its critical reception at the time, but even becoming aware never would have guessed Spielberg himself wasn't fond of it. It's a fun, quotable, well acted and brilliantly scored film...

dnwilliams I don’t blame Spielberg. The film had a pretty troubled production: it went over-budget, it fell waay behind schedule, and Julia Roberts was so difficult to work with, Spielberg vowed to himself that he would never work with Roberts again.

I've got a real soft spot for Hook. One of my childhood favourites. Great interview, Kermayo.

He hated/struggled making parts of it, had problems with Julia Roberts and even its most ardent fans have to admit watching it back now it's very....90s cheesy. Its not a great director at the top of his game or changing cinema, it's him making a movie that needed to make money for the studio, and could have been done by Chris Columbus, Joe Johnston or the guy who made Jingle all the way and it'd be just as good really. Robin and Dustin are great and John Williams is always awesome. But it's just very meh and forgettable, cheesy of that period that dates it and unless you saw it at at a certain age at the time and developed nostalgia to care (more about fond memories of your own childhood) you won't really care about it. Love Robin Williams tho.

I always loved Ai, when I first saw it back in the day it enthralled me. I also always loved 1941 particularly the extended edition. There so many films I like that everybody dislikes and to me it's like "Well, it's their loss, I'm lucky to have so much more to enjoy than them."

There was an exclusion of Frederick Douglas featured quite prominently in the film's source book by Doris Goodwin called Team of Rivals. I wish Kermode had asked Spielberg why that was done...?

it's very very odd to me that Steven SPIELBERG couldn't get a phone call with an actor (in this case Daniel Day Lewis). it's weird that Leonardo DiCaprio had a bigger pull in that situation. i guess from having worked on _Gangs of New York,_ right? what a world.

He has dual British and Irish citizenship and lives in Ireland loves Ireland and some of his most notable performances are of Irishmen. He was born in London and not to Irish immigrant parents.

I dont understand 'things that are equal to the same things are equal to eachother', can someone please explain it to me? Is this the same as saying 'things that are the same, are the same'?
@anonymes2884
@anonymes2884 5 лет назад
Maybe not _quite_ as simple as 'things that are the same, are the same' but instead more like A = B B = C Therefore, A = C. So if A and B are the same as each other and B and C are the same as each other, _therefore_ A and C must _also_ be the same as each other.

19th century literature includes Dostoyevski, Hugo, Balzac. Thus, as good Lincoln might was as a writer no comparison with the above. Obviously, an exaggeration.
