Anime? How is this anime? I don't mean to rant or be nit-picky, but it seems that 'round these parts (the parts of the Internet that hold all the fandoms) there seems to be this idea that anime=superior. It seems like everyone thinks, "If it's an anime, it's automatically good!" A "Western" cartoon, however, is apparently automatically inferior and has to "prove itself" in order to be considered good. I assume that this "anime is inherently good" perspective comes from some sort of multiculturalist thinking or something--i.e., only Americans or maybe W. Europeans with access to anime would declare it good. If it's for some sort of "my culture is just so inferior and I should only look to other cultures for quality entertainment" mindset, then it needs to stop. Of course, I could simply be reading into this too deeply. Another thing is probably content. You can complain all you want about how there needs to be "MORE fanservice" or "MORE gore" in "Western" cartoons, but frankly it doesn't matter. Just because a show was made in a country where content boundaries were SLIGHTLY more strict doesn't mean it is automatically inferior to a similar show made in another country with no content boundaries. Plain and simple. It's about what you do and how you do it in a show, not how much you can "get away with", considering in the 21st century you can get away with anything. Steven Universe isn't an anime, it's just a cartoon. You can claim that its characters "look anime-like", but frankly I don't see it. Pearl looks like Ilana from Sym-Bionic Titan, and that show was somewhat anime-esque, but it still wasn't an anime. Why? Because it wasn't Japanese, plain and simple. Personally, I don't want every cartoon to be considered "an anime". To me, all anime looks a lot a like in that the characters are all drawn/generated/created in a similar style, with varying quality. I wouldn't want every "Western" cartoon to look like an anime. I get the Sailor Moon comparisons, but frankly I'm glad Steven Universe isn't Sailor Moon--I thought Sailor Moon was supposed to be a guilty pleasure of animes, anyway--the AOSTH of anime, the one anime people would admit had flaws, aside from maybe Pokémon or Dragon Ball Z. But, to be fair, I don't watch a lot of animes. But if I did, I would like them for some reason related to content or the story (although I do wish more "Western" cartoons had an overarching story, like ATLA), not because it was made in a country different from my own.

Wait, I just found out that in an interview, it was revealed that Centipeedle isn't malachite.

From what I understand, Lion was Rose's friend. How they became friends is uncertain. Maybe he used to be super aggressive before Rose used her power to "see the good in everything" to cure him. Maybe she formed him from her gem like Pearl's training hologram. One thing's for certain, though--Lion and Rose are definitely linked, and were definitely friends. Lion's unspoken trust of Steven, who bears Rose's gem, demonstrates his loyalty. Also, while Rose was the Goddess of Love and Emotion, Lion is completely emotionless. And in the last few minutes of Lion 2, Steven pulls out a sword from Lion that could only have belonged to Rose...It's not stored in a gem, and Lion cannot use it. Which is interesting because Steven can only summon a shield...Maybe his mother withheld her sword from him. Maybe there's a dark side of the Goddess of Love that they haven't yet addressed.
