This song represents every event in the show. Each specific parts represents a character to another character; the whole song is not about one person to another. They are split into pieces. As the show progresses, it is likely that more pieces of the song will be placed during some episode's end credits, and at the end of the series, combine into one single entity; a very complex, meaningful song that represents the series as a whole.
My theory is that Rose did something terrible during the war or just anywhere and she is saying that she is nothing like Steven. So, Rose is saying that she is evil but Steven is representing the good in her.
+Moizez Escobar Don't insult someone for expressing an opinion. Besides at this point we don't know enough to say if Rose had anything to do with the fusion experiments or not.
+XxGlitchxX its obvious rose knew about the experiments(Shes high up in the chain in command after all) and was related to its development. The question is: what happened that caused her to turn on homeworld?
I love how this song is slowly coming together and how people are eagerly trying to decipher who the singer is. I personally think it's most likely lapis but maybe pearl. I had a thought that it could be jasper but I feel like it's probably not. I really love this song and Rebecca's voice. It's amazing.
Personally, i think the song conveys the feelings of the different crystal gems or the feelings most of the characters have felt throughout the show, how they all have longings and such
Lyrics so far: If I could begin to be, Half of what you think of me, I could do about anything, I could even learn how to love... When I see the way you act, Wondering when I'm coming back, I could do about anything, I could even learn how to love, Like you... (Love, like you...~) I always thought I might be bad, Now I'm sure that it's true, 'Cause I think you're so good, And I'm nothing like you~
At this point we can narrow it down to either Rose singing to Steven or Greg, or Lapis singing to Steven. Either way, it's going to be a real ride come the end.
My personal opinion is that it's Rose singing to all of the Crystal Gems AND Greg. She did love everyone, and maybe she thought highly of everyone because she thought she was 'bad' because of what she did in the past.
+bowser jr not sure, but the extended opening made her seem ominous, plus there is still alot we don't know about her or if she might have ulterior motives for protecting earth
I feel this is Pearl to Rose and Steven, but i feel it could also be Rose to Greg. As If there is some darker evil secret we have yet to know! Can't wait for the rest of the song! I'm so addicted...
The song isn't from any one person's perspective; it's the general theme of the whole show and all the characters in it. Specifically, the emotions felt by Rose to Greg, all the Crystal Gems to Steven, Lapis to Steven and eventually Peridot to Steven and the rest of the Crystal Gems. Anyway yeah, admiring someone for their ability to love in comparison to your own, not feeling that you deserve the faith they put in you and feeling guilty about your past mistakes despite the fact you've been forgiven.
Personalty I think it's Yellow Diamond singing about Rose. Yellow Diamond might be incapable of loving and Rose is basically love personified. Plus it's Rebecca Sugar (not Rose or Lapis) singing and she's going to voice a character in the show later, might just be Yellow Diamond.
Bro, I have looked down this comment section for a minute and your comment sounds more right than the others. I heard that it's suppose to be Rebbeca's gem singing "Love like you" so if it IS Yellow Diamond singing this all along then damn
I cant wait for the next one. It sounds like the lyrical versions form 1 song (duh) cause the faded love like you sounds like it starts when the original love like you ends and nothing like you sounds like it starts with the piano sounds that the faded love like you ends with.
As said by Rebecca Sugar herself, the song is meant to be for pretty much all the characters. Anyone can sing it to just about anyone else, which is what makes it such a great song. Since it is the ending theme, it seems fitting since the series kind of fits around it and vice verse. In short, amazing song. 10/10 Would Cry Every Time.
Someone said to me that someone else in the crewniverse stated that it was Lapis singing to Steven. (I don't know who said it) It made so much sense. Plus, I think Greg and Connie will die soon... Greg may will die protecting his son, the same thing for Connie. And, I know Steven has a crush on Connie. He likes her. From the very first episode he meet Connie, Bubble Buddies, Steven tries to impress Connie but she doesn't care. In the hospital, Steven scream "Keep your hands off my Connie" and rushes to save her. But, when Steven's in danger, Connie said "Steven c'mon" and leaving him. I don't know about you guys, but I don't think Connie loves Steven the way Steven loves her. So... Since this maybe Lapis singing to Steven, it could be in a romantic way? Tell me what you think
+Helen C C Ashbrook It could be from Lapis from Steven... It could be Pearl to Steven... It could even be Garnet to Steven... Or maybe it could be Amethyst to Steven. But wait... What if... ALL OF THE GEMS TO STEVEN!!!!!
tbh I feel like Stevens singing this to all the crystal gems or his human friends or someting, well... If something deep happens and he takes his back story to far
i don't care who this is representing nor do i care who this is directed to. I just want the whole damn song. It's sounding like it would be soo perfect all together.
okay so if this was from Lapis's perspective then it goes like this. Part 1: Mirror/Oceon Gem to The Return. Lapis reflecting on Steven's loving and forgiving nature, and wishing she could be like that Part 2: Jailbreak onwards. Lapis's singing being drowned out by the waves of the oceon and the voices of Jasper and Malachite Part 3: Future episode?. after Lapis and Jasper unfuse and Lapis looks upon the destruction she has wrought she breaks down, singing about how she's nothing like Steven. maybe the reason Lapis was imprisoned in the mirror was because she did some terrible crime, and now she feels guilty and wishes she could become as loving and forgiving as someone like Steven but not truly believing she can......stop making yourself sad Meo ;__;
I think the first part (Love like you) Is sung by Rose to Steven on her last moments on Earth. And the second part (Nothing Like you) Is sung by Amethyst When she fights Pearl in The "On the run" Episode Because, in the episode she said "I never asked it to be this way, I never asked to be made." And in Nothing like you Sugar sang "Cause I think you're so good, And I'm nothing like you."
I see a lot of people saying "this song is ___ to ___", but I'm pretty sure the lyrics are meant to apply to different people. I can relate this to Lapis for example, but I can also see this being Peridot to Steven as shes currently going through her long-awaited turning point.
We probably haven't even heard this song in its entirety yet. We're probably being fed lyrics little by little on purpose for some reason. But yeah this song could be about anyone or even everyone on the show.
Wait so does this mean when the song is all complete steven universe is over? or does it start with a new song or does this song goes forever and we wait till something happens?
+Brandi Edison If the latter is correct, I hope the finale's a 3 part episode. And the last 10 minutes is just Rebecca singing this beautiful song, or most of the singing characters
Preeeeeeetty sure this is Peridot. Considering she's sorta became the crystal gem's prisoners I'm guessing she will get some development and open up. This could easily be Peridot's thoughts on Steven at the end of the episode when she's captured, after he offers to help stop the cluster......Shipping it.
While everyone else is talking about who's singing the song, does anyone else notice that the movement of the clothes actually gets slower as time goes on?
i think it might be steven to rose. because of all the pressure of being like rose everyone puts on him. "i always thought i might be bad" may not mean villian bad but more 'im not good enough' bad. because of how many positive stories the gems and greg have of rose and how much the gems (mainly pearl) compare rose to steven he slowly starts to believe they would rather have her back than have him. hence the last few lines of the song. also the extended intro could support this theory. at stevens part "i will fight to be everything that everyone wants me to be when im grown" rose is shown behind him, symbolizing they want him to be like rose and he is wanting to be like rose, hence "learn to love like you" and who is the most loving character in the show? (second to steven) rose. she loved earth, she loved humans, she (obviously) loved pearl, she loved the thought of steven enough to shift a womb and give up her form for him. steven wants to be like rose, steven wants to love like rose but he will (probably) realize later in the show that he is nothing like rose, hopefully in a good way. (sorry for any incorrect grammar and spelling)
Could be from Rose's prospective earlier in her and gregs relationship. I think this since when Greg and Rose were dancing in We need to talk they said something like "We're so different" blah blah. And greg explained to steven the gems weren't too nice when they came to earth, so this could be when rose was starting to come around to Greg?
0:04 Steven's voice actor voiced on of the Clusters.....What's it like groaning, wheezing and growling for a job? Dee is a monster so its normal for him.
Wait I got it, it's me singing to my dog. If I could begin to be, Half of what you think of me,(My dog thinks highly of me) I could do about anything, I could even learn how to love...(I think kind of low of myself) When I see the way you act, Wondering when I'm coming back,(My dog is excited when I return from school) I could do about anything, I could even learn how to love, Like you... (My dog show afection that no non baby human has ever.) I always thought I might be bad, Now I'm sure that it's true, 'Cause I think you're so good, (She ocasionally nips and pees on the floor but she is friendly) And I'm nothing like you
Lyrics: I always thought I might be bad. Now I'm sure that it's true, cuz, I think your so good, and I'm nothing like you! I think Lapis would sing this to Steven but I could be wrong.
AGH OKAY ITS ACTUALLY BEEN KNOWN AS "LAPIS' THEME" OKAY? IT PLAYS AT THE END OF THE LAPIS ARCH. JEEBUZ PEOPLE. IT DOESNT REALLY EVEN MATTER, LET'S JUST TALK ABOUT UR QUEEN'S BEAUTIMOUS VOICE PLZ
everyone saying it's lapis to steven and stuff, but come on guys, think about it. wouldn't this be a bad episode to put this?? it honestly could be the clusters trying to get to steven/rose. they used to be gems, and possible crystal gems.
I still think it's meant to be Rose. Either way I can't wait for the song to be completed. I really really want a complete S.U. soundtrack CD set if they ever get around to making one. Also a plushie of Lion.
I personally still think it's Lapis. Perhaps this is foreshadowing character development or some insight into her character? Or alternatively, it's AMETHYST. Maybe she's feeling bad for being a Kindergarten Gem and genuinely thinks she's evil because of that. Basically, this song could be about any or most or all of the characters.
someone should make a complete version with the first part, the second part and this part! or maybe we should wait for the whole song by the crewniverse?
+Sarah Hollis I like to think that Lapis is the one singing, unlike Rose, she doesn't know about love or compassion, and it would make sense that she'd want to "learn how to love" like Steven, because he's full of love and compassion for other people. Lapis probably hasn't been shown much compassion in her life, she lacks confidence and easily lashes out at people, and seeing him be so kind to her, even after she's threatened his life and endangered his planet, may wonder how he can still worry and think so highly of her and may see herself as a bad person because of her previous actions compared to his. Besides, the other title for this song is "The Ocean Returns" and I feel like it has more weight with Lapis than it does with Rose. (Ok, that point isn't as good as the other ones but it does have a tiny bit of merit. And I'm not saying it couldn't be centered towards Rose, but Lapis seems to fit the bill better in my opinion. All I know is that I'd want to see the full song featured in an episode, because it would be a hell of a performance regardless of which Gem sings it to Steven.
