Nothing is perfect, but a Steven Wilson and Guthrie Govan combination is pretty damn close. One of the best songs of all time, and one of the best solos of all time. (Although i prefer the studio version)
Yeah, your brain gets wedded to a certain version and I agree the studio is it for me. He isn't a monkey so I get he's not going to do 'the same' thing and I don't blame him.
Amen. Every time I hear some Geezer say Rock is dead or they don't do 'that' anymore my reply is simply 'your ignorance of what's out there doesn't mean that it's not out there'. There is plenty of unbelievable Rock and Prog but you have to find it without being spoon fed.
@@johnnicholson8345 It's certainly not as easy as simply switching on the radio, like it was in my youth. I found Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson by way of Genesis/Steve Hackett, so yes it can be done. But you should be kind to "Geezers" (who originally created this music also) and show them the way!
In hindsight, Steven Wilson's musical vision was the perfect stage for the guitar genius of Guthrie Govan, and his coda to this song is quite possibly best solo I`ve ever heard.
The solo on the album definitely is the best solo I've ever heard. This one was friggin great too, but there's something special about that album solo. First and only take. Perfection.
@@jcout25from what I know, it wasn't the only take, but it definitely was the first (you can even hear Guthrie snapping one of the strings out of place, as he had never used a jazzmaster before).
Robert I don't know anyone else who plays everything as effortlessly as they speak. In fact I think Guthrie has more difficulty talking than playing guitar. And he's a great talker, too. :D
I’m quite new to Steven Wilson and really enjoying going through his music. It’s gonna take a long time though. Firstly there’s quite a lot of it, but more importantly there are so many *amazing* songs that I play them on repeat the entire day! This is a prime example of pretty much everything I love in music.
hey man, you need to try the old porcupine tree stuff like: In Absentia, deadwing, fear of a blank planet... If you are into Metal, then try "Opeth" too (the middle ages, like: Blackwater Park, Damnation or Ghost reveries...)
Welcome aboard man . Don't bother strapping-in . You're going to be moved . Try The Sky Moves Sideways , if you haven't already . Look out for a 2 disc version . I keep using the word 'sublime' , but it is . Or how about 'caramel' ? Hang on . That's an album by Connan Mockasin , and that's ... you know ...
my new favorite guitar solo. take a drive on a dark summer night, open all the windows and let guthrie govan take you on a journey. I love his style; a great guitar solo doesn't have to be muddled or busy. Brilliant simplicity.
Todos son unos grandes músicos, Steven Wilson un genio (de los mejores genios musicales de la historia) y Guthrie Govan un extraterrestre en un cuerpo humano
@@Oelkannchen they are all great musicians, Steven Wilson a genius (one of the best musical geniuses in history) and Guthrie Govan is an alien in a human body.
Realizing how much I really love everything about this song. Flawless work of art. Reminds me a bit of CSN with Floyd and Guthrie is just simply incredible.
Guthrie man... Every time you fill these emotional soundscapes with your perfection... I simply can't explain how it feels other than its an emotional 360 every few seconds.
thank you for posting, they are so great live, and i could feel the electricity in the venue hall so magical and i got the shivers again!! which ia almost a given with any track off this album! long live The Raven!!!
I was expecting the original guitar solo played in studio recording as that was one of my most favourite guitar solos but what Guthrie played is still is catchy, awesome..
Raven and HCE were both perfect albums imho. For me HCE is top3 album of this century so far. The story of this song, Stevens soft singing and the brilliant guitar solo make this song 10/10.
